Team Cherry has dropped details on the next two events in the Hollow Knight duology.

The first downloadable content for Hollow Knight: Silksong called "Sea of Sorrow" has been announced for release in 2026, according to the developer's website update. New bosses and upgrades are promised in a "nautical-themed" update: DLC was originally planned for the original Hollow Knight which ended up scope creeping into Silksong.

It's not just the sequel that is getting love, though: a performance update is coming for the original Hollow Knight (2018) on all current platforms, which will be rolled into a Switch 2 edition of the game also due in 2026.

If you're not sure about buying the first portion of the FF7 remake trilogy while you can still get the classic version, you'll have some time over the holidays to make a call.

Square Enix has released a demo for Final Fantasy VII Intergrade ahead of the game's January 22 launch. In line with standard Square Enix policy, the demo's save data can be carried into the launching game.

A code for the Switch port of the original Final Fantasy VII was announced as an early purchase bonus for buying the game digitally in September during the Nintendo Direct.

Originally I was debating whether to give the top spot in this final week before Festivus with the System Shock remaster, The Rogue Prince of Persia from the embattled Ubisoft, or the two games being localized by Sting that are a support scrolling shooter and platformer for an RPG we're not getting. Specifically, Baroque, which last released in North America during Harper's first term. Or the latest gong show from Limited Run Games, Tomba 2.

But due to general malaise, I wasn't able to get the article written until Monday, which gave Larian the opportunity to blow up the entire release list with a Switch 2 edition of Divinity: Original Sin II following the announcement of its sequel at the Keighley Direct on Thursday night. Could this be the precursor to going down, down, down by the river on Switch 2? I mean, it runs well enough on the Steam Deck, so... maybe? (Getting the new Divinity on Switch 2 would be Doom Eternal levels of miracle port.)

THINGS WE MISSED LAST WEEK: Apart from that whole Skyrim unpleasantness, DK Jr-like Roc 'n Rope from Konami hit both archives.

IS THE EGGCONSOLE GAME PLAYABLE IN ENGLISH: Not bloody likely.

Next week will see pizza time on Switch 2 with a recent Turtles game getting an upgrade.

Super Evil Megacorp, the developers of 2024 co-op roguelite action game TMNT: Splintered Fate, have confirmed the game will receive a Switch 2 version next Tuesday. A faster framerate, improved visuals, and GameChat/GameShare support will all be part of the package.

Owners of the Switch edition will be able to upgrade for US$2.49 or equivalent.

Perhaps due to the base game getting a delay in order to create a Switch 2 version, Pokemon Legends: Z-A has broken Fire Emblem: Engage’s record for fastest expansion pass completion in Nintendo* history. This has led to a lot of accusations that the Mega Dimension portion of the DLC was somehow content cut from the main game. Once those accusations are cheerfully rejected, the result is a fun extension of the main game that also resolves a lot of things that have been concerns with Pokemon games post-3DS for someone like me who hasn’t met a Pokedex I haven’t tried to 100% complete.

The DLC is clearly designed as postgame content, as the first battle I encountered after downloading the 2.0 update was at level 75. Following the battle, Team MZ falls into an area dubbed “Hyperspace Lumiose” in order to save a young girl named Antha who is accompanied by the mythical Pokemon Hoopa who seemingly cannot battle, but can use its dimension warping abilities to move the player in and out of Hyperspace Lumiose on a temporary basis thanks to the power of donuts. A massive portal to Hyperspace Lumiose opens up over the centre of town, and as the player completes objectives in Hyperspace Lumiose portals open to new Rogue Mega Pokemon who thankfully can be dealt with 3-on-1, though some of the later Rogue Megas have levels of power the main game never touched. The end goals are simple: close the giant portal and help Antha discover a legendary Pokemon she ran into on her way into town.

It really feels like the DLC was designed specifically for handheld play, since the time limits for exploring the zones start out low and it takes until the endgame before you have the materials to give a lot of time to exploration. The donut system borrows some elements from the sandwiches of Scarlet and Violet in that with enough power you can unlock enhancements like higher item drop rates, damage buffs / reduction, and perhaps most importantly for the Internet at large enhanced shiny and Alpha Pokemon rates. But getting to the point that you can do these high-end donuts requires clearing through the main story quickly in order to unlock more powerful donut ingredients, which are usually gated through clearing a research. Playing Mega Dimension eventually unlocks 80 different side quests, and if I managed to clear 20% of them in my playthrough I’d call that a success even accounting for ones that unlock new Mega Stones and clothing options I made sure to gun for. I meant to go through the city on my Switch 2 file and get all of the TMs I didn’t get during the playthrough, but didn’t even have time to do that.

There is a challenge aspect to the Hyperspace Zones since in order to proceed you have to complete three objectives (except for sidequest zones) similar to the Professor’s research in Pokemon zones and later on battle objectives in zones that are similar to bonus cards that might have been picked up through the Z-A Royale. On a side note, for those of you who didn’t want to grind through the 1000 battles to get to the final Professor research rank of 50 in the base game, the DLC does offer research points for the new Pokedex (roughly 130 Pokemon), new ranks for the “Mega Pokedex”, and awards points for exploring zones which means you’ll more than likely get the endgame reward of the Shiny Charm. If you did excessive postgame grinding to get this, I am so sorry.

In addition to freeing you from multiple battle breakfasts at the restaurants, Mega Dimension also brings some other things that resolve annoyances I’ve had - in some cases, for years. The game throws experience candy at you like it’s going out of style so you don’t have to buy it using the Mega Shards, but also unlocks a grip of new moves that can be bought with shards you will pick up by the gross in hyperspace zones. Without getting into spoilers for some of the stuff that shows up later on in the game and in the DLC’s “postgame” (after the credits roll) there are now only six Pokemon out of 1,025 that are not permanently available on a Switch and two of them will likely become available when Scarlet and Violet stop getting Tera Raid updates. (At least two Pokemon use never-expiring internet Mystery Gifts to unlock which will technically be unavailable if Switch games lose internet access the way DS and 3DS games did, but given the Switch 2 is using the same infrastructure it may still be running at the end of the next decade. If we make it that far.) The Z-A battle system even allows for moves that I’ve never touched with a ten foot pole to have use in story battles such as the old “one hit KO” moves, which are now TMs in Mega Dimension. And I did enjoy running double battles - with other trainers - using the Z-A battle system which is used for that first battle and some of the sidequests.

It's Sonic's 30th anniversary, so here's the Pokemon tribute to "Living In The City".

There were a couple of things that did annoy me in the course of the playthrough, one seemingly technical and one aesthetic. I was using the returning Staraptor for a good portion of the playthrough as my main item gatherer since being a Flying type it could get to floating item boxes easily. And it was the first shiny I found in the DLC, too. Multiple times, I would lock onto an item in the environment, commit the attack, and Staraptor would fly off a couple hundred metres in the other direction to the point where I had to call it back and repeat the attack. I’m not sure if this is intentional or not but it’s really annoying under a time limit and I never had that problem in the main game. The aesthetic problem is that Lumiose doesn’t have much environmental variety to begin with, barring sewers (gross), and if you don’t roll a sewer zone you just get a cityscape but with extra gray. It’s not exactly beating the “drab” accusations. That said, the new music is enjoyable, with particular notice to one song that was pulled straight from Legends: Arceus for a well-earned reason near the end of the story.

I’m not sure which of the DLC campaigns for Pokemon we’ve gotten in the last 12 months I prefer, but they are similar. Both Mega Dimension and the Indigo Disk focus on double battles and high level combat plus bring in Pokemon that were hard-to-impossible to get on Switch before. Though I do like replaying the Indigo Disk, so the Z-A twist on the format is definitely worth grabbing after you’ve had your fill of the main game. Just remember to do all the sidequests first, since the first thing they advertised for Mega Dimension - the Mega Raichus - requires completing a side quest with another side quest as an unlock.

Capcom wasn't done after announcing Pragmata tonight: the company has also announced their plans for one of their great mascot's 40th anniversary. A brief trailer has been released for Mega Man: Dual Overdrive which will release in 2027 - 40 years after the original NES adventures of the Blue Bomber - on both Switch 2 and the Switch.

Also revealed tonight:

  • A new co-op game published by Kepler Interactive (Clair Obscur: Expedition 33) was shown called Orbtials. The very anime-styled action game will be a Switch 2 exclusive in 2026.
  • Complusion Games and Microsoft Game Studios announced a Switch 2 release for their 2025 action game South of Midnight in the spring of 2026.
  • Co-op horror game Phasmophobia, previously released on PS5 and in Early Access on PC, will come to Switch 2 around the time it goes 1.0 on PC next year.
  • Another co-op platformer called Out of Words was also confirmed for a Switch 2 release next year.

The flexibility of the RE Engine is letting more than just Resident Evil Requiem come to Switch 2 next year.

Capcom have announced that their action game Pragmata will include a Switch 2 version when it launches on April 24, 2026. Originally announced at the PlayStation 5 reveal in 2020, the game is a product of younger development staff at Capcom and was announced at the time as their first original property in eight years.

A demo called the "Pragmata Sketchbook" is now out on Steam, and is supposed to come to consoles shortly.

In a press statement confirming the date, Capcom also announced an Amiibo for Diana - the player's robot assistant - will come out day and date.

We might be getting a couple of N64 platformers next week but we're getting an unannounced GameCube game tonight.

A surprise trailer has dropped for Wario World, the Treasure-developed 2003 GameCube platformer, and it's available tonight. Wario World was not in the original list of games announced for the Switch 2-exclusive library.

Nintendo World Report (in its Planet GameCube iteration) reviewed Wario World, with Michael Cole giving the game a 6 / 10.

The N64 Nintendo Classics will get one final update in 2025.

The Expansion Pack-required library will add the N64 version of Rayman 2 and Tonic Trouble on December 17. Tonic Trouble (1999) is a 3D platformer about a janitor who drops a formula that mutates Earth and has to find the items for an antidote. Although it was released on PC in 2000, this is the first time the N64 version has been re-released.

The often re-released Rayman 2 (1999) is also a 3D platformer that was later ported to both the DS and 3DS, and originally launched just a couple of months after Tonic Trouble. Both games offered Expansion Pak support.

It's seemingly not a modern console if it can't play Skyrim natively, and now the Switch 2 is getting in on the action.

Bethesda has announced that the Skyrim Anniversary Collection - which includes a host of user-created tools from an official creator's club as well as the base game's expansion - is now available for purchase on Switch 2. The massive RPG first released in 2011 and was one of the first games announced for Switch at its 2016 reveal, launching in November 2017.

Previous owners of the Anniversary Collection DLC (released 28 September 2022 for Switch) will be able to upgrade to the Switch 2 version for no cost: otherwise the upgrade will cost the same $19.99 as the DLC costs now and includes those who own physical copies of Skyrim Switch.

One of the last local-only options in Pokemon Go will soon be available remotely, but you have to work at it.

A new update rolling out worldwide today will unlock the ability to make remote trades in Pokemon Go. The trades will be tied to a friendship prestige level called "Forever Friends" (previous levels being Good, Great, Ultra, Best) and will unlock one remote trade per time achieving the level. It will take 90 "points" to reach the state (1 per daily interaction, 7 for completing a weekly challenge), and a trade must be completed before the next 90 points will unlock another remote: additionally Pokemon caught in the prior 30 days cannot be traded in addition to existing trade restrictions.

In order to facilitate the trade, players will put a special tag on Pokemon they are willing to trade: the partner selects three of these tagged Pokemon, and the original trainer will confirm the one to send. Each step has a 48 hour timer, similar to how trades work in Pokemon TCG Pocket.

Trading was added in July 2018 to Pokemon Go and requires the trainers to be 100m from each other to complete. In a week that features Winter Game Fest (dba "The Game Awards") and its cavalcade of F2P gacha hero shooter ads with interspersed awards more of a work than Montreal to balance out the Z-A Mega Dimension DLC, at least there's some intriguing items to deal with. The week kicks off with Skate Story, before going into Farming Simulator and Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader - and for those of you with pattern recognition issues who AREN'T whining about Metroid Prime 4 on the internet, Ultimate Sheep Raccoon is from the developer of and is a sequel to Ultimate Chicken Horse. There's also a new rocket sim from the No More Robots folks in Little Rocket Lab.

On the OG Switch... well, we have another Saga game getting its second remake, and in a sign of something Square Enix isn't even publishing it. There's also a new Terminator run-and-gun, a remake of a Japan-only PS1 game (Milano's Odd Job Collection) getting localized, and waaaaaaay down the price list a Switch version of PC surprise hit A Game About Digging A Hole. (Exactly what it says on the tin.) A new patch for Mario Kart World could potentially make races even more chaotic than normal.

The 1.4 update (out now) has enabled an item switch for multiplayer races, and added some new options to multiplayer. Several tracks were also redesigned, most notably any races that run through the Koopa Beach track now running for at least two laps on the beach.

A multitude of other issues were also fixed: full patch notes can be found on Nintendo's support site.

We have some new details for the last big Nintendo release of 2025 this morning, as well as a new downloadable event for Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

The Mega Dimension DLC will include a second Mega Evolution option for Lucario called Mega Lucario Z. A new trailer released this morning shows the slightly lighter form in multiplayer action, though any type changes are still unknown. "Z Mega Evolutions" will have a shorter cooldown for attacks in battle, but will also burn the Mega gauge faster.

The end of the video also confirms a new Mystery Gift similar to the one that unlocked the mythical Diancie last month. Later today, the Mewtwonite X and Mewtwonite Y will be made available via Mystery Gift, which will allow for the legendary and elusive Mewtwo to be captured. The sidequest, called "Project M", will be the first time Mewtwo has been available on the Switch in more than four years, with its previous appearance being in the postgame of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl.

A week on the bigger side for Switch 2 (and Switch by proxy considering all but one of the big ones is multiplatform), with the power four of Simogo Legacy Collection, Marvel Cosmic Invasion, Assassin's Creed: Origins and Octopath Traveler 0, the last of those most important for those hoping for an offline version of Fire Emblem Heroes once its end of service gets announced in March since Traveler 0 is a test case for "offline version of mobile gacha". There's also the Nintendo Direct-appearing Popucom, and Viewfinder which Willem reviewed last week, and a Nightdive remake of something just called Blood...

Don't look at me like that, I was getting to the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon of the broader Nintendo oeuvre - the series with two ever-shrinking constituencies of fan in indie game makers and video game media, the series that those who like it won't shut up about but the broader audience does not give a damn about. Yes, Metroid Prime 4 is finally coming out. A game in development so long it was introduced at an E3, and the studio that allegedly worked on it originally before it was rebooted nearly seven years ago has turned their reputation around with Nintendo to the point that Nintendo is outright buying them. Was it worth it? Probably not, given that it's not good when the biggest-budget game in Nintendo history has the same discourse:sales ratio as the Steam Deck.

THINGS WE MISSED LAST WEEK: Syrenne's surprise drop will actually be in next week's list (if I don't get sacked for that truth bomb up there) as LOK Digital is getting a Switch version, but it does have a demo you should check out by her request. Apart from that, 1991 brawler Karate Blazers was the Archives release. And there was a lot of "porn"... aw, dang it.

The last time Nintendo bought a studio from Bandai Namco, it worked out REALLY well for them.

Nintendo has opened a branch in Singapore to expand their presence in Southeastern Asia, and now they're picking up a local studio.

A news release was posted by Nintendo this morning announcing a planned acquisition of Bandai Namco Studios Singapore. 80% of the firm - a controlling interest - will be acquired on April 1, with the remainder to be acquired "once the subsidiary's operations have stabilized". The company will be known as "Nintendo Studios Singapore" following the acquisition.

BNSS was involved in the development of Splatoon 3 and was at one time rumored to be working on Metroid Prime 4 before its 2019 public reboot and movement to Retro Studios.

The new Amiibo for Metroid Prime 4 have more to them than just being big and looking pretty.

A Japanese language website has updated the functionality for the Prime 4 Samus and Samus + Vi-ola Amiibo launched on November 6, as well as the Sylux one that will launch day and date with Prime 4. The effects are:

  • Samus + Vi-ola will allow you to change the motorcycle's color, check its odometer, and increase its "Boost Energy" recovery rate.
  • Samus standalone will give new background music when riding Vi-ola, activate a 99 damage shield (once per day), and restore Samus's life
  • Tapping Sylux will allow for early access to "full in game cutscenes" upon rolling credits - cutscenes that normally appear in a fragmented form in the story - that normally require 100% completion of the game, as well as Sylux randomly taunting the player.
  • A Smash Amiibo (Samus, Zero Suit, Dark, or Ridley) plays random music.

It appears other Amiibo, such as "Mr Squishy" the Metroid from 2017's Metroid II: Samus Returns will not have an ingame effect.

Pokemon Go's first all-weekend event of 2026 has been revealed.

The Go Tour: Kalos (region of Pokemon Legends: Z-A and more importantly X and Y versions) will run worldwide on February 28 and March 1, with in-person events the prior weekend in Los Angeles, CA, USA and Tainan, Taiwan. Although most of the global event will be free, a $10 US ticket will be available that will offer exclusive research, a boost to shiny rates, and a first chance outside of limited Japan / South Korean events to catch the mythical Diancie in its "shiny" form. (It will likely be available as a Pokedex upload reward for Pokemon Legends: Z-A in Pokemon Home around this time, though this is not confirmed.)

As with previous major events, the Tour is timed to be the capstone of an ingame season called "Precious Paths", which will introduce several Pokemon from Scarlet and Violet into the game starting with the Nacli evolution line on December 2.

Nintendo has dropped updates to the Game Boy and NES libraries for Nintendo Switch Online base subscribers tonight, with a dash of first party and two of the NES's more infamous action games.

NES Library

  • Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos (1990) is the second in the NES trilogy of hack-and-slash platformers starring the famous Ryu Hayabusa. A sequel set a year after the events of the first game, it was previously released on all of the Virtual Console platforms (Wii, 3DS, Wii U).
  • Battletoads (1991) is the original game in the short-lived Rare action series and one of the last major NES releases in North America before the launch of the Super Nintendo. Known for its difficulty - including the 2 player mode being unfinishable due to the second player constantly dying upon spawn in one of the last levels - this release is its first on a Nintendo platform, though it was included in the 2015 Xbox One collection Rare Replay.

Game Boy Library

  • Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters (1991) is the sole direct sequel to the often-released NES classic and was the last game in the franchise until the 2012 revival Kid Icarus Uprising. It was previously re-released on the 3DS Virtual Console as a part of Uprising's promotion.
  • Bionic Commando (1992) is an adaptation of the NES classic, which echews the then-modern setting of the original for a more futuristic one and was the first to refer to the player character as "Rad" Spencer instead of the translation error of "Ladd". This is the first ever re-release for the game.

Ordinarily, this week of the US Thanksgiving holiday commentary on appropriateness of the holiday deleted is a quiet one. Trapped between the week before Black Friday with its massive sales and the big release week of Octopath 0, Assassin's Creed: Shadows and some other thing, it should have been true this year - especially when Sturgeon's Law is in full effect. So... why are there 52 games in North America to start the week? Hell if I know.

For things that might be worth looking into, we have a pair of Picross games celebrating Capcom vs SNK before one beomes a corporate cousin of EA next year, and... man, if Jupiter didn't come through last week we would be so cooked. A new game subject to the Syrenne Disclaimer is coming unannounced on Tuesday so we have that to look forward to, and my only hope is that it and the Archives are the ONLY surprise drops.

Ome of the lesser-used Mythical Pokemon is getting a glow-up in December.

A new trailer for the Pokemon Legends: Z-A Mega Dimension DLC has revealed a Mega Evolution will be available for the mythical Zeraora. Originally released in 2017 as an Ultra Sun and Moon exclusive, Zeraora will remain a pure Electric-type Pokemon when Mega Evolved.

The introduction of Zeraora continues a trend began with Pokemon Legends: Arceus where mythicals were made available during the game (Arceus as part of the plot, Darkrai and Shaymin as save bonuses).

Well, if an hour and 53 minutes of presentations / trailers and two weekends of test drive weren't enough to confirm that Kirby Air Riders is the big game this week, I don't know what it'll take. (Even if I'm waiting for vouchers to come back to buy it because of it being one hundred and five bucks after tax solely because I bought my 3DS while visiting my brother, or it'd be $114.) As the second-to-last Nintendo release of the year behind the Z-A Mega Dimension DLC, it's got a lot to live up to - and has to justify the use of a SECOND BUTTON. Naga help us all.

For OG Switch owners this week, you're looking at another RPG in this Fall of Too Many Level Ups with Demonschool, the oft-delayed-for-reasons-beyond-its-control school life RPG from the team behind... Gunhouse. There's also a double shot of interesting indie to kick off the week with Indika and Morsels, a new R-Type Delta, and run-and-gun Neon Inferno.

THINGS WE MISSED LAST WEEK: A couple of new Switch 2 editions including Hello Kitty Island Adventure and narrative adventure Rue Valley, plus Galactic Warriors from Konami in both Archives and Archives 2.

A ten minute trailer for Pokemon Pokopia has dropped some new details for the March 5 release.

The trailer confirmed that Pokopia will offer GameShare support (including to original Switch systems) and will have four player online co-op. The player-character Ditto will also be able to change their look ingame, as well as transform into other Pokemon such as Lapras for water traversal or Dragonite for flight.

At the end, a brief shot of several alternate-color Pokemon - an albino Pikachu and a grass-colored Snorlax - also appeared. The framing device for the trailer is a Tangrowth ("Prof. Tangrowth") whose top half is predominantly white.

The Pikmin 4 update promised last month is now live.

The patch notes are available here: in addition to the promised Pikmin Bloom support and new difficulty options, the option to "roll over" completed save data to a new playthough has been added.

Also added was an option to skip the intro after the first playthrough.

The wacky building adventures of Ditto are coming just after Pokemon Day, in a perhaps unexpected format.

Nintendo of America has confirmed in social media posts this morning that Pokemon Pokopia, the crafting sim announced in the September Nintendo Direct, would release on March 5, 2026. A new trailer will also run on Thursday.

It was also confirmed that the game would come on a Game Key Card, as shown in a video posted on the English-language Nintendo YouTube channel:

Game-key cards serve as physical licenses for digital games and have received criticism from fans for still requiring a download and hard drive space unlike traditional physical games. The release of Pokopia on a game-key card would be the first time a Nintendo published title has made use of this format. It also somewhat contradicts comments previously made by Nintendo that they had "no plans to use game-key cards for Nintendo-developed titles." That being said, it is worth noting that the Pokémon Company is listed as the publisher in Japan, possibly making this a case similar to how licensed Warriors games (Legend of Zelda and Fire Emblem) are published by Koei Tecmo.

UPDATE 10:15am ET: Digital preloads for the game are now available confirming a US$69.99/C$99.99 MSRP.
