RUMOR: Amazon Reveals Possible Wii U Launch Lineup

Could these be the games launching alongside the Wii U later this year?

Amazon's listing for Nintendo's upcoming console, the Wii U, lists a ton of previously known specs as well as a list of launch games for the system.

The full list includes:

New Super Mario Bros. Mii

Darksiders II

DiRT

Aliens Colonial Marines

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Online

Metro Last Light

Tekken

Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge (working title)

And Nintendo Mii-based software yet to be confirmed

Amazon's listing did note that these games were "just a few of those players can expect."

PREVIEW: Pokémon Dream Radar Preview

The DS sequels get some needed 3DS functionality.

The software revealed as Pokémon AR Searcher during the Nintendo Direct event last month now goes by Pokémon Dream Radar. Coming out the same day as the Pokémon Black and White 2 in Japan (and around the same time as the release of the sequels in other territories, as well), the game is intended to act as a downloadable companion on the 3DS—something especially interesting considering Black and White 2's release on DS.

Considering the Japanese title, one could correctly assume the game relies on the handheld’s augmented reality capabilities to capture Pokémon, which can then be transferred to either Pokémon Black or White 2. The transfer process itself is entirely contained within one 3DS system, a relief considering the reliance on two DS systems needed to transfer Pokémon between Black/White and Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum versions.

PREVIEW: Pokédex 3D Pro Preview

The eShop launch title is getting a brand new coat of paint.

Pokédex 3D Pro (along with Pokémon Dream Radar) was revealed during the Nintendo Direct event last month as a companion to the upcoming Pokémon Black and White 2. The application, like the original Pokédex 3D, features 3D models of Pokémon with moves lists, evolution charts, and more. However, Pokédex 3D Pro contains data on every single one of the over 650 Pokémon and forms (including those new to Black and White 2).

With all these models, it’s surprising that the developers would have time to include animations for all Pokémon. However, new screenshots (showing an electric discharge from Pikachu and what appears to be an attack coming out of Lucario) seem to point in that direction.

NEWS: Ubisoft Has Seven Wii U Games in the Works

So, we've definitely got Assassin's Creed III, Avengers, Killer Freaks, Rayman Legends, Ghost Recon...

Ubisoft is expecting to release seven Wii U games by the end of March 2013, according to President Yves Guillemot at their annual Earnings Presentation.

The games will consist of two core games and five casual titles. We currently know of eight Ubisoft titles for the system, listed below:

Assassin's Creed III

Killer Freaks from Outer Space

Ghost Recon Online

Avengers: Battle for Earth

Rayman Legends

A new Rabbids title (Rabbids Rumble?)

A sports title

Just Dance

The two core titles are likely Assassin's Creed III and either Killer Freaks or Ghost Recon. It's likely that one of these games is delayed (Killer Freaks?) or one of the tentatively announced ones (the sports title, which was announced at E3 2011) doesn't exist anymore.

NEWS: Just Dance Confirmed for Wii U

It's not shocking, but hey, you'll be dancing with the Wii U Controller or something.

Just Dance is coming to Wii U in the near future, according to Ubisoft's 2012 Earnings Presentation.

The company actually expects Just Dance sales to dip this year, but the hope is that series expansion to Wii U and different geographical areas, such as Ubisoft's work with Nintendo in bringing the series to Wii in Japan, will bring sales back up.

The last Nintendo release in North America was last year's Just Dance 3. Just Dance 3 is being brought to Japan in July with help from Nintendo as Just Dance Wii 2.

NEWS: Lost Planet Spin-Off Coming to 3DS From Capcom

EX Troopers is a shooter that is curiously also coming to PlayStation 3.

EX Troopers, an anime-inspired "beginner's shooter" from Capcom, is coming to 3DS later this year in Japan, according to a Famitsu article.

The game is related to the Lost Planet series, and is being overseen by Shintaro Kojima, who previously worked on the Monster Hunter series. Kojima is hoping that this shooter will introduce players to the Lost Planet series courtesy of lighter gameplay and an accessible school setting.

The main character is Bren Turner, who is newly enrolled in an academy on EDN-3rd, the main location in the game. At the outset, players choose one of three unique bases for their version of Bren to hail from. In addition to the shooting action, players will also progress through the story using interactive cut scenes.

NEWS: Kirby's Star Stacker Coming to Japan eShop Next Week

Yet another Kirby title makes an appearance on Nintendo's downloadable platform.

Kirby no Kirakira Kizzu, otherwise known as Kirby’s Star Stacker outside of Japan, is coming to the Nintendo 3DS eShop in Japan next week. Originally released in 1997 on the Game Boy, Kirby’s Star Stacker is a puzzle game where players must earn as many stars as possible by matching corresponding blocks.

In Japan, Kirby’s Star Stacker was also remade on the Super Famicom and released about a year after the Game Boy version. While both games are nearly identical, the Super Famicom version includes a story mode where Kirby faces off against opponents from previous Kirby titles.

CONNECTIVITY: Connectibites News Digest - May 16

The dynamic duo discuss Capcom's E3 presence, Pikmin 2, Xenoblade sales, and more.

Neal and Patrick sleuth it up in this latest issue of Connectibites News Digest (yes, we have a name courtesy of The Famicast's James Charlton) as they try to figure out the case of the missing Capcom 3DS and Wii U games at E3.

Next, they try to get to the bottom of Pikmin 2's June release in North America, while wrestling with the demons of Xenoblade's unreported North American sales numbers. After they solve the mystery of Order Up's North American delay to eShop, they talk about Jason Rohrer's Kickstarter and posit how trite LEGO Lord of the Rings sounds. Neal brings up the Nintendo-published Wii U and 3DS title LEGO City Stories in the eleventh hour, leading to a possible E3 sequel where the boys find out where the game has been since being announced during Nintendo's press conference last year.

There's certainly been no shortage of Poké-news lately.

Pokémon Black and White is still set to come out this fall in North America and Europe, confirmed Nintendo, after releasing the box art and more information.

In recent European and North American press releases, it was revealed that the starting city, Hiougi City, will be called Aspertia City in western territories. In addition, it was also revealed that like Black and White, the sequel's version mascots (Black Kyurem and White Kyurem) will be version exclusive. Also, Black Kyurem and White Kyurem's signature moves, Ice Burn and Freeze Shock, will be ice type rather than fire or electric type.

NEWS: Capcom to Have No Playable Nintendo Games at E3 2012

There will be no Street Fighting or Resident Eviling on Wii U or 3DS this E3.

Capcom won't have any games for Nintendo's systems playable at E3 2012, a company representative told us earlier today.

Previously, there have been rumors of a new Resident Evil 3DS game and the localization of Monster Hunter Tri G being unveiled at E3. While this does confirm the games won't be playable, this announcement does not completely rule out the possibility of an announcement about either game at E3 2012.

The only two projects that Capcom is officially developing for Nintendo systems are Monster Hunter 4 and Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney. Both games are supposed to come out on 3DS in Japan later this year.

NEWS: Order Up!! Demo Hitting eShop on May 24

There's no word on the full release yet, but you'll be able to try out the restaurant simulator in less than two weeks.

Order Up!! is getting a demo on the eShop on May 24, according to developer SuperVillain Studios.

The game was initially set to be a retail release, and actually did come out as a retail release in Europe last December. However, SuperVillain Studios and publisher Ignition decided to release the game as a download-only release in North America. The date for the full release on the eShop is still unconfirmed, but it should be coming soon.

Order Up!! previously appeared on Wii, and you can read our review of that version here.

The update for Mario Kart 7 is now available to download through the eShop. The patch fixes exploits found within three different tracks that many users have been using to gain an unfair advantage in online multiplayer races.

The three courses which have been updated are Wuhu Island Loop, Wuhu Mountain Loop and GBA Bowser Castle 1. Players who choose not to download the update will not be able to participate in any online races. The patch does not affect time trials.

The update is live right now in all major regions.

A new DS game by independent developer Jason Rohrer has been approved by Nintendo, and has appeared on Kickstarter.com as a way of raising the manufacturing costs to produce retail cartridges. The game, which has been in development since 2010, was at one point to be published by Zoo Games. It seems as if that deal is now off, with Rohrer self-publishing the game.

According to the development blog, Rohrer wasn't interested in pursuing a digitial distribution due to the limited availability of DSiWare among gamers. Rohrer noted in his blog: "I did some research about DSiWare and was disappointed: it had a narrow reach (only 10 million units) and poor sales numbers. Not only would my game likely not sell well on DSiWare, but my existing fans would be unable to get the game without buying DSi units. You know, everyone has a DS lying around. Very few people have a DSi."

EXTRA LIFE: Super Battleship

Does this interpretation of the classic game float or sink?

Alex:

Developed by Synergistic Software for the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis in 1993, Super Battleship goes for a simulation of the classic Milton Bradley guessing game experience, while also incorporating a twist on that conventional formula.

In honor of the release of the new Battleship—the game based on the movie based on the game—I thought I would dust off the old Super Nintendo and grab a used copy of the game. Although I don't necessarily get as hardcore into the game as some, I have decent experience with simpler versions, and still remember some tricks from when I was younger. For instance, arranging your ships in a tightly packed cube in the corner of the grid makes getting hit much tougher (at least in my experience).

RADIO FREE NINTENDO: Episode 291: Good Night, Sweet Prince

It's Greg's last show, but we manage to talk about Nintendo anyway.

Well, it's time for that episode. Despite the sad theme of Greg leaving RFN, we celebrate him and all the great times with games, memories, funny clips, and only a few tears. But first... New Business! James starts it with his decidedly mixed impressions of Resident Evil: Revelations for 3DS. Greg's next with Game & Watch Gallery 2, a belated date with Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, and some comments on Treasure's Advance Guardian Heroes (though the impressions are actually from Lindy, who wrote the original review for NWR). Jonny reaches the absurd final track in MotoHeroz, completes a digital transition with Darksiders, and continues his journey through Xenoblade Chronicles. Jon closes it out with his own little tribute -- Radiant Silvergun on XBLA. Too bad Greg can't play it himself... or can he?

NEWS: Xenoblade Chronicles Excluded from April NPD Results

Aside from that, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Mario Party 9, and the 3DS sold well in one of the worst gaming sales months in recent memory.

Xenoblade Chronicles, released exclusively through GameStop and Nintendo's website in early April, wasn't factored into this month's NPD sales because NPD does not release retailer-exclusive sales data. In general, due to very few major releases, the month of April was a slow sales month for the industry.

That didn't keep the 3DS down, though, as NPD Industry Analyst Anita Frazier said "One thing to keep in mind is that the 3DS has outsold the DS by about one million units in their respective first 14 months in the market, and the DS went on to become the best-selling gaming hardware system ever."

RUMOR: New Play Control! Mario Power Tennis Releasing as a Nintendo Selects Title?

Additionally, Pikmin 2 might debut as a Nintendo Selects title.

New Play Control! Mario Power Tennis has been listed as a Nintendo Selects title in the Canadian websites for FutureShop and Best Buy. New Play Control! Pikmin 2 might also be released as a Nintendo Selects title when it comes out in North America, according to a Canadian retailer ad.

Mario Power Tennis is listed for an October 6 release, but since Nintendo has issued no official confirmation, the validity of the date remains in question.

The Pikmin 2 listing has a release date of June 11 listed, going in line with Nintendo Power's June release date when the game was officially unveiled in the magazine's recent issue.

REVIEW: Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Review

Ride your chocobo down memory lane.

Rejoice, fans of Final Fantasy! Theatrhythm, which, with its release in Japan, marks the franchise’s debut on the Nintendo 3DS, will soon arrive in English-speaking territories. Theatrhythm aims to take the players on a trip back in time to cherished games and experiences. At this point, I’ve spent nearly 50 hours with the game and have seen a ton (and then some) of what Theatrhythm offers. Regardless, there’s still plenty more left for me to do—fans of Final Fantasy and rhythm games alike should be kept busy with Theatrhythm.

Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance will be getting a demo at some point in the future, as stated by director Tetsuya Normura in a recent interview with Famitsu magazine.

When asked for a closing message to the readers, Normura said the following:

"We’ve decided to distribute a KH3D demo in North America as well as Japan. You can play part of Sora’s scenario in Traverse Town. So if your friends haven’t played it yet, you can recommend it to them. And of course, give the co-op mini game Flick Rush a try. Also, an unannounced title is being prepared as well, though it’s something lighter. There are still songs continuing to be distributed for Theatrhythm Final Fantasy so you can look forward to that as well."

NEWS: Nintendo of America Comments on Lack of 3DS Virtual Console

Basically, they say there is a whole bunch of other content out there.

While we're now aware that Nintendo of America's two-month 3DS Virtual Console drought will end next week with Kirby's Block Ball, here is Nintendo of America's comment to us in regards to the lackluster support in 2012 for the service:

"Each week Nintendo makes available a mix of Nintendo eShop, Virtual Console, WiiWare and Nintendo DSiWare games. Combined, these services currently provide gamers with hundreds of fun and interesting downloadable games to choose from. There is no preset schedule as to how many games will become available in a given week, but many more are on the way via all of these digital-delivery systems."

REVIEW: Pandora's Tower Review

Reverse her curse before she gets worse.

Pandora's Tower is a curious tale of love, dread, monsters, and magic that's both refreshingly original and reminiscent of the great fairy tales of old. The story unfolds quickly: A young maiden is singing at a kingdom festival, when a giant monster suddenly appears to cause trouble. Unbeknownst to her, a strange marking appears on her back. We then see her led by a man in armour, as castle guards chase the two through the alleys. A mysterious old woman, with the zombified corpse of her husband strapped to her back, appears and helps the two evade the soldiers and reach the wilderness. She tells them the girl won't be human much longer, unless something is done.

NEWS: New Pokémon Black and White 2 Information Detailed in CoroCoro

What do Misty, new Pokémon forms, and something called Pokéwood have to do with each other? Read on to find out!

Details on the new Kami trio forms, plot, returning characters, and more were released in the latest issue of CoroCoro.

In addition to the previously known information that Tornadus, Landorus, and Thundurus would be getting new forms, it has been revealed that these new forms are called "Sacred Beast Forms" (as opposed to their traditional form, now referred to as "Incarnation Forms").

Tornadus' form carries a new focus on Defense, Special Defense, and Speed. Thundurus has a focus on Special Attack, and Landorus focuses on increased attack. The legendary Pokémon will be number 198, 199, and 200 in the new Pokédex, and will not have a type change between forms.

CONNECTIVITY: Episode 34: Mental for Wii U

Digital download hesitation and Wii U hype.

Hello, please have a seat. A pleasure to see you all once again! Welcome to episode 34 of Connectivity. This week's show is svelte, featuring two segments.

First up, Scott, Mike, Andy and Zach talk about weird endings to old 90's sitcoms about dinosaurs... then they read listener mail! So, something for everyone. The gang tackles issues of digital download trepidation and how Smash Brothers can learn a thing or two from the old WCW wrestling games on the N64. First thing: the ability to make characters' faces bleed.

NEWS: SpotPass TV Canceled in Japan

Hearts are broken and souls are shattered as Nintendo pulls the plug on the free 3DS 3D video service.

Itsu no Ma ni Terebi, also known as SpotPass TV, is going to be shut down for good on June 20 in Japan. The service, which launched on June 19, 2011, is a joint service between Nihon TV and Fuji TV that brings free 3D video content to Nintendo 3DS users in Japan. Types of content included programming teaching you how to do magic tricks, Japanese idol sumo wrestling, sports, 3D dating, and more. There was no reason given for the cancelation.

You can read more about some of the content that was included in service here.

FEATURE: Interview with Supervillain Studios

The developer of Order Up!! speaks on the retail and digital scenes and their experience working with Nintendo.

In 2009, a Wii game called Order Up!! was released to positive reviews, but little-to-no marketing. Now, three years later, the game is coming back with a vengeance on multiple platforms. After hitting the retail market in Europe last December, the studio decided that a digital release was a better fit in North America. In the next few months, the game will be available on the 3DS eShop. We talked to Chris Rausch, co-founder and Chief Creative Officer at Supervillain Studios about that decision, and the rocky road to release that the game has seen. We found his answers were interesting and revealed a lot about the nature of the retail market today, and we think you'll agree.

NEWS: New Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus Forms Revealed for Pokémon Black and White 2

Looks like there's more to the Kami trio than meets the eye.

New forms for legendary Pokémon Tornadus, Landorus, and Thundurus were revealed in the latest issue of CoroCoro magazine.

Tornadus looks much like the bird creature silhouetted in The Pokémon AR Searcher shown at the most recent Nintendo Direct, and apparently, both Landorus and Thundurus undergo major aesthetic changes. The original leaker also states that Thundurus and Landorus are exclusively captured in Pokémon AR Searcher (and then transferred to Black and White 2), however, this is unconfirmed.

FEATURE: What the GBA Ambassador Games Could Tell Us About Nintendo's Future

The 10 games that went out to loyal customers might hint at the future. Or not. But hopefully they do.

Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones was one of the 10 free Game Boy Advance Ambassador games that went out to 3DS owners who bought the system before the price drop last summer. Around the time the game was confirmed to be a part of the Ambassador games, we learned about Fire Emblem: Awakening, the newest entry in the series on 3DS that came out in Japan last month and is likely due out in North America and Europe later this year.

That got me thinking: maybe those games are meant to hype us up for new games in those series. It could be a totally unfounded idea. Maybe they just gave us WarioWare because they needed to give out 10 games. But maybe they didn't.

NEWS: FarSight Studios Details The Pinball Arcade for Wii, Wii U, 3DS

To summarize: no, yes, and maybe.

The Pinball Arcade has been given release details for Wii, Wii U, and 3DS on the game's official Facebook page.

In regards to a Wii version, developer FarSight Studios stated that "Unfortunately, the Wii isn't powerful enough to run Pinball Arcade," but concerning a Wii U version, FarSight is "very excited about the Wii-U and hope to release as close to the launch of the platform as possible."

The studio also spoke to the uncertainty of the title's future on 3DS.

"We have a plan to get the performance we need out of the 3DS to run the ROM emulation, however some R&D is needed before we know for sure whether it will work. The 3DS version is on hold until we can invest the time and resources into this R&D."

RUMOR: Wii U to Have $300 Price Tag, Simultaneous Tablet Play?

Two tablets might not be out of the question.

A Global TestMarket survey may have revealed new Wii U tablet functionality and a tentative $300 price tag, as reported by GoNintendo reader Porygon.

In one question on the survey, the question is asked: "How likely are you to purchase Wii U if it cost: $299.99?", potentially suggesting a general pricing range.

In addition, a series of pictures showing off gameplay, Netflix, and sports game features was revealed, and one pictures appears to show gameplay between either two Wii U tablets or a tablet and a Wii remote. If it is the former, it will be contrary to previous suspicion that only one Wii U tablet will be playable at a time.

REVIEW: Amoebattle Review

Is this game of divide and conquer worth the download price?

When the DS launched in 2004, one of the frequently mentioned talking points was how the stylus control would finally allow a fully featured real-time strategy game to blossom on a platform besides PC. Unfortunately, many years down the road, this hasn’t quite evolved the way many had hoped and despite a few attempts, the genre is still in its handheld infancy. Amoebattle by Intrinsic Games aims to fill the gap by offering an inexpensive, but expansive, real-time strategy game on the DSiWare service but unfortunately falls a bit short.

REVIEW: Mario Tennis Open Review

Camelot returns to Mario sports with a game that hits nearly as often as it misses.

Mario Tennis Open is a puzzler. On one hand, it’s a great tennis game that, much like its predecessors, is simple to grasp but also has depth. On the other, there just isn’t much to it. With a lack of strong single-player content, Open’s focus is shifted onto multiplayer, which, given how poor the online turned out, is disappointing.

The single-player content included is stretched to its limit, but it’s still fun. There are several tournaments of increasing difficulty to play through in both singles and doubles matches. During these tournaments, you unlock rackets and items of clothing for later purchase, but you don’t build up anything used to actually buy the gear. That’s where the Special Games come in. These mini-games, consisting of Ring Shot, Super Mario Tennis, Galaxy Rally, and Ink Showdown, are focused on improving aspects of your tennis game, and get pretty challenging in their later stages. Sadly, they also end quickly. Considering how much unlockable gear Open features, the game expects you to replay the Special Games ad nauseam.
