Podcast Discussion / Episode 411 - Make It Stop

We got a pretty standard one for you this week. Not much to say. We did a podcast episode. What else do you want?

This week, Casey got a Steam Deck and played some Hades. Oooweee that's a mighty fine handheld console. On the Steam Deck front, we also get some impressions on Doom Eternal (Casey) and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (Perry). More relevant to Nintendo, Alex and Perry both got the new Nintendo World Championships game and their thoughts are...mixed? Softly positive? It's okay!

We got a full crew here for the fourth time in seven years, so we might as well have a decent episode, no?

We go into a smattering of topics including the new Devolver Digital game Anger Foot (it plays like a first-person Hotline Miami), Steam Decks new and old, and a bit of Dark Souls III. In the back chunk of the show, we take three listener mails including two extremely old ones. LOL.

Hey, a nice little podcast! Have a listen, eh?

Casey was running late, but he showed up quickly enough that I honestly don’t need to include this sentence here (just want to twist the knife a bit#). In any case, our agenda this week is pretty mixed. Perry has some thoughts on Metroid: Samus Returns and Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD (a distinct entity from Dark Moon), Balex has Fallout 4 and Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition Switch port thoughts (it’s good!), and Casey has a bit of this and that. BTW, send us an email. We are going to try to do Listener Mail next week!

We got a regular crew back, but Alex is getting back from Sick City so we had a pretty laid back hour of convo. The biggest piece was that Alex is loving Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble despite a series of mediocre monkey puzzlers preceding it. Perry then dips out for a bit so Alex and Casey talk about Steam Summer Sale purchases and a bit of whatever else. Perry comes back and we close on...Idris Elba and The Bear? Anyway, see you next week!

Wow, can you believe it? A new Nintendo Direct!!!! What is more believable is that Casey is out again this week (#) so Alex and Perry break down the news together.

A new Mario & Luigi! Metroid Prime 4! 2D Zelda feat. Zelda! Way more!!! This was a really good showing from Nintendo, and based on this week’s Poll Results Time, we think you feel the same. P.S. Pretty sure Casey won our predictions with one point, but we’ll evaluate with him and Jordan in a week or two.

Predictions. Predictions! PREDICTIONS!

Nintendo is hosting a Nintendo Direct sometime this month. so Alex, Jordan, and Perry convene to give out some "E3" predictions. Casey isn't here because he had "work" (Read: WoW raids) so we read his live on air. That's at the back end of the show. Before that, we got a Mystery History from Perry, Dragon's Dogma II impressions from Bal, and Jordan's experiences replaying old Pokemon games. Fun!

Podcast Discussion / Episode 404 - Perry Not Found
« on: June 06, 2024, 03:27:20 PM »

We're down a Jerruh for his birthday, but the remaining non birthday boys take up the mantle and Paper Mario TTYD, Dark Souls III, and Mortal Kombat 1 are on the menu!

We’re getting to that time of year again where random hosts are forgetting that they have an obligation to record on Tuesdays, so is anyone really surprised Perry bailed to be with his loving family on his 58th birthday? So Rude#

Just kiddin’, but it is true that Perry is not here so it’s left to Casey and Alex to pick up the slack and do a pretty chill episode. On the docket this week: Paper Mario TTYD remake, Dark Souls III, Mortal Kombat 1, fast food faux pas(x2), fatherhood, and more! Also there’s a Nintendie Direct probably coming up eventually soon, yeah? We’re probably going to try to have a friend or two on next week to do some not-E3 predictions.

Casey's gone doing heck knows what so as expected, Alex and Perry are here to pick up all the pieces.

Do I remember the exact order we discussed things in? Nope! I can, however, say that we discussed The Rogue Prince of Persia, that new Suicide Squad game on PS5, the Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door remake, Wargroove 2, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and probably some other stuff! Oh, and Perry does a Craigslist Roundup!

"J-Man" "Michael" Jordan Rudek joins us this week for our big I Demand You RE: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds!!! What a beaut of a game (and special guest), huh?

But that's not all, gang -- we start the show off with the games we've been playing (as well as the promise of a new Perry game show in the coming weeks). Jordan's got a cool lil' puzzler in Please Fix the Road, Casey's been playing the uber-popular V Rising on Steam, and Alex put a bit of time into Senua's Saga: Hellblade II on Xbox Series X.

Then, it's time to talk about Zelda!!! We put a half hour into discussing Link's big original 3DS outing, and the last new 2D Zelda game. Can you believe that was more than 10 years ago? Can you believe it came out the same day as Super Mario 3D World? OMG!!!

BTW, Jordan will join us again in a week or two to do predictions for the impending June Nintendo Direct (because we forgot to do 2024 predictions) (haha) (and because the year is almost halfway over already) (not haha) (haha).

400 is done which means we're back to the old grind this week. What would TNP be without 30 minute nontendo segments and weird debates?

Casey is in proper form this week with his final thoughts on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth...game of the decade, huh? Perry, meanwhile, gave Tears of the Kingdom another go and has a longshot prediction that the next Zelda game is coming sooner than we think. Finally, Alex has a new segment: Activity Log! He quickly goes through some of the miscellaneous-but-neat games he's tried in recent weeks, including PUZZMiX, The Last Faith, Slayers X, and Wrath: Aeon of Ruin.

Next week, A Link Between Worlds Thirsty Mage crossover! Send us your dang emails!

Wow, 399 already...can you believe it?

We had even more to record for 400 (expect a 3-4 hour episode if all goes according to plan), but we still had a full length episode! Alex brought us FOUR review games this week: Megaton Musashi W: Wired, Anomaly Agent, Astlibra Revision, and Tents and Trees. Perry has strong words of praise for SteamWorld Build before bringing us into an interview he conducted with GrimTalin, developer of puzzle platformer The Fall of Elena Temple.

Short episode this week because we had to do some recording for the big Episode 400, but we still had some fun talking indies!

Alex and Perry took the lion's share of review games this week, as we spent most of our time talking city builder SteamWorld Build (and the SteamWorld franchise as a whole), minesweeper roguelike Let's! Revolution!, and Jupiter's latest Picross release Picross -LogiartGrimoire-. They gave Picross *context* -- can you believe it?

BTW, we got Episode 400 coming up in a few weeks -- send us listener mail! We're doing a big ol' segment as part of it. While we won't share every surprise we got planned for the show, we will say that our Thirsty Mage crossover featuring The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds will be part of the festivities. We're down a Casey this week but fret not! Alex and Perry lead a two-man show with a bunch of segments -- including a new one!

We start things off this week with fast food talk and a Mystery History. You'll never guess how this one ends! Alex then brings us his idea for a new segment: Komplaint Korner. What's grinding your gears this week? For Alex, he's miffed about...Joy-Con colors?

In the second half of the show, games! We discuss the metroidvania Ato, chill puzzler Oxytone, and the very silly Rose & Camellia Collection. A Craigslist Roundup from Perry brings us home.

On the show this week, we start things out with some new game talk. Alex closes the loop on Princess Peach: Showtime! and David tells us about Square Enix's new SaGa demo. Then we chat about the sick 2D drilling platformer Pepper Grinder as well as the Nitro Deck. In the second chunk of the show, we spend time theorizing about a Switch successor and close out on a Poll Time. What is a game that is almost amazing?

BTW, we are apparently doing an I Demand You/Game Club thing with David for The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. More to follow...it's all Greek to me!

Unfortunately, Perry comes to us today with a webcam microphone, which is a reminder that there's no such thing as a free lunch. Before that though, we got a few game reviews for ya! Then, we pass things over to Perry who has an interview with a couple of the developers at Orube Game Studio, makers of the cool Celeste-style Metroidvania Super Mombo Quest. Thanks for joining us!

Next, we chat Undertale...FINALLY! We talk about its wild legacy, why Alex and Jordan think it's so good, why Perry and Casey need to actually beat it someday, and much more. Before all that though, we got takes on The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons, Blaster Master Zero, and the just-released Arzette & The Jewel of Faramore. They made a game that looks like the old CD-i Zeldas. Crazy, right? Even crazier: it's pretty cool!

We're back from the 2023 Jimmies (and Jerries) and ready to party!

The structure of the show today is more loosey goosey in the first part. We talk about Nintendo sales numbers, potential announcements for a possible Nintendo Direct next week, Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Pokemon Black and White, and more. Perry also brings us a Mystery History, which VERY QUICKLY goes off the rails.

In the second part of the show, Perry sits down with Kev Bayliss, the artist who created Diddy Kong. Great chat, check it out! And of course, thanks to Kev for his time.

Lastly, we're doing our Undertale I Demand You -- FINALLY -- in two weeks. Check out this modern classic with us, won't you?
