TalkBack / Trio Of Titles Added To Expansion Pack Genesis Library
« on: April 10, 2025, 05:16:37 PM »

One of which you'd be surprised wasn't already there.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/70713/trio-of-titles-added-to-expansion-pack-genesis-library

There will still be additions to the Switch Online libraries before the GameCube drop on Switch 2 in June.

Expansion Pack subscribers have picked up a trio of Genesis games tonight. The games are:

  • Super Thunder Blade (1989), a launch title for both the Mega Drive and Genesis that was a follow-up to Sega's beloved arcade shooter Thunder Blade.
  • ESWAT: City Under Siege (1990), a side-scrolling shooter developed and published by Sega featuring a police officer who starts as a one-hit dying beat cop that eventually obtains a mech suit.
  • Streets of Rage (1991), the original game in Sega's side scrolling brawler series noted for its Yuzo Koshiro soundtrack; its sequel was a launch game for the Genesis library in 2021.

TalkBack / Nintendo Downloads - April 10, 2025
« on: April 07, 2025, 04:00:00 AM »

After a week of sheer insanity, it's back to what is sadly normal service on Switch OG.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/70693/nintendo-downloads-april-10-2025

Things we missed last week: Namco's Assault Plus in the Archives.

Last week can be summed up in four words: "OK, so THAT happened". Between the Switch 2 Direct and the absolute gong show that followed mostly from 20500, a week of eShop slop seems almost quaint. But there are a few highlights to look forward to this week starting with Star Overdrive, the hovercraft-focused game briefly touched on in a Direct... good lord, that was a week and a half ago and it feels like a lifetime. Battlefield Waltz (Idea Factory/Otomate, actually localized by IFI) is also due this week, but wait for word of any day 1 patching. (I know I am.)

Other items of note this week include the "Promise Mascot Agency", another Snow Bros. game, and the week's EggConsole game is a basic maze game from 1983 so it looks like Pyramid Warp is safe to snag for those outside of Japan.

TalkBack / Pauline To Be Partner In Donkey Kong Bananza?
« on: April 05, 2025, 05:54:00 AM »

Does she let you jump up in the air?

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rumor/70629/pauline-to-be-partner-in-donkey-kong-bananza

A regional Nintendo website may have spoiled an upcoming partner for Donkey Kong Bananza.

An image on the Nintendo of Korea page for Bananza - as well as the main homepage for the region - appears to show Pauline as a partner character with Donkey Kong. Although the image was removed, we were able to save it before removal:

Thus far, the main partner character with Donkey Kong has been the purple "Singing Rock" character.

No word on the situation north of the 49th.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/70627/switch-2-preorders-in-united-states-delayed-due-to-tariff-impact

United States consumers will not be able to preorder the Switch 2 as planned on Wednesday.

In a statement to GameSpot, Nintendo of America has confirmed the following: "Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged."

A few hours after the Switch 2 Direct on Wednesday, the US government issued a series of "reciprocal tariffs" on countries, with specific targeting of Japan and other Asian nations that are part of Nintendo's supply chain.

TalkBack / Other News From The Switch 2 Nintendo Direct
« on: April 02, 2025, 08:24:57 AM »

Including Borderlands 4, most famous for getting the Seth Rollins "no pop" when it was announced.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/70575/other-news-from-the-switch-2-nintendo-direct

As the longest Direct in history, the Switch 2 Direct had a lot of things to cover.

  • Koei Tecmo-developed hunting action game Wild Hearts will have an "S" version on Switch 2 July 25.
  • Mechs will be riding on Switch 2 with Daemon x Machina: Titanic Scion September 25.

TalkBack / EA, 2K Loading Switch 2 Up With Sports And Entertainment
« on: April 02, 2025, 07:47:29 AM »

Hopefully one of those efforts is more of a Canadian Stampede than the New Blood Rising the Switch 1 got.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/70570/ea-2k-loading-switch-2-up-with-sports-and-entertainment

The Switch 2 is ready for some football. And football. And basketball.

Both EA and 2K's sports divisions made appearances in the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct today to confirm that major sports will be represented on the system. EA recommitted to the EA FC series which has been on Switch since its launch year as FIFA, but will also be bringing the Madden NFL series to the Switch 2 as well. The gridiron series has been absent from Nintendo consoles since 2013 following a disastrous performance for the Wii U Madden launch game.

Not to be outdone, 2K's sports division also announced that the NBA and WWE 2K series would be available on Switch 2. Although NBA has been a Switch staple, there has not been a WWE-licensed game on Switch since a technical tire fire version of WWE 17, and the game has moved from Yukes to an internal Take Two studo.

We're finally getting the other thing that keeps George R. R. Martin from finishing the books.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/70567/from-software-bringing-elden-ring-exclusive-game-to-switch-2

The ungodly popular games of From Software will be represented on Switch.

One of the first 3rd party announcements of the Direct was the "Tarnished" version of 2022's Elden Ring will come to Switch 2 this year. It will include the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion (2024) plus some new customization options on top.

The final 3rd party announcements was a brand new title. The Duskbloods, an open world action RPG in a similar style, will launch as a Switch 2 exclusive in 2026.

Some of the stuff will be new to you.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/70556/details-on-switch-2-edition-games-revealed

After being teased in fine print last week, Nintendo has detailed what exactly a "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" game is.

Switch 2 Editions will offer enhanced graphics and framerate, as well as additional gameplay options to selected games. The first example shown was be a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Super Mario Party Jamboree on July 24, which will add a new series of dedicated minigames that support the Switch 2 camera and microphone.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will add support for higher framerates and resolution, plus a new "Zelda Notes" feature for trading information in the Nintendo Switch App (a rename of the current Nintendo Switch Online app will occur in May). The upgrades will be available on June 5. Kirby and the Forgotten Land will add a new "Star-Crossed World" story in a Switch 2 Edition, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends Z-A will support higher framerates with Beyond specifically offering 4k resolution at 60 FPS or 1080p resolution at 120FPS.

Players will be able to upgrade Switch games to Switch 2 Editions. Although pricing has not generally been revealed, the upgrades for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom will be available for free to subscribers of Nintendo Switch Online at the Expansion Pack level.

Yes, this is a Nintendo game.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/70552/wheelchair-basketball-meets-blast-ball-in-drag-x-drive-this-summer

The Switch 2's mouse controls will have a demo game shortly after launch.

During the Nintendo Direct, a new game called Drag X Drive was shown. Due in the summer, the game uses the JoyCon mouse movement to control a wheelchair in a 3v3 basketball-like game, using the top buttons to shoot and perform dunks.

The arena is fully enclosed with the walls serving as ramps to get in the air.

TalkBack / Nintendo Downloads - April 3, 2025
« on: March 31, 2025, 04:00:00 AM »

Thankfully, Switchmas II will be confined to one location instead of three different ones.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/70493/nintendo-downloads-april-3-2025

Things we missed last week: Aside from a freaking Nintendo Direct with three shadowdrops (Rift of the Necrodancer, Disney Villains Cursed Cafe, and another f**king Saga game), Taito's Land Sea Air Squad was added to the Archives.

Look, we all know what we're here for this week, and it's sure as hell not the weekly releases for Switch 1. So much so that there's a legitimate argument to make that a remake of Croc: Legend of the Gobbos is the biggest release of the week unless you're actually asking Is This Game Trying To Kill Me? (No, but last week's Saturday load nearly killed me...) Let's just move to Wednesday.

TalkBack / New Digital Game Lending Feature Announced For April
« on: March 27, 2025, 06:46:48 AM »

Suddenly it's even more important to have a family NSO plan.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/70421/new-digital-game-lending-feature-announced-for-april

Nintendo is updating the way digital Switch games are handled beginning in April.

An update that month will create a new "Virtual Game Card" system that aims to treat digital downloads the way physical games are handled. Players will be able to "move" games from one system to another which would allow the games to be played without an internet connection, similar to how the "primary" system does now.

Additionally, players who are part of a Switch Online family group will be able to lend a purchased game to another member of the group. The limit is one per person, and the game will be on the other person's system for two weeks.
