It's not inflation; it's $9 bananas.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/60862/episode-777-are-we-really-doing-the-banana-conspiracy

James returns to the non-sequential 777. Despite there being ample reason to engage in the exercise, he is such a mature and forgiving host that he does not turn this into a corrections episode.

This week we spend a lot of time talking about the Nintendo Partner Direct Mini Showcase Direct Mini. There was a medium amount of news, and I don't need to recite it all for you (because we do that on the show). Also, it's already on this website. And also, it happened about six days ago.

REGARDLESS, if you have somehow not seen the Partner Direct Mini Nintendo Non-Nintendo Showcase Direct To You, June 2022 then by all means, our dulcet tones will vibrate the news directly against your tiny ear bones.

After talking about the Direct (Mini, Partner, etc.) we circle back to talk about the Xenoblade 3 Direct again, because time is a flat circle. Please note, this is not a corrections segment, despite corrections being issued. There are distinctions known only to me, but they are official RFN canon.

Finally, after news provided on an "Age of Sail" delay, we get into some New Business. James has been, not coincidentally, playing Future Connected from Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition. Jon has begun his quest to exterminate all the monsters with the Sunbreak expansion to Monster Hunter Rise. Greg is playing indie platformer ElecHead, now on Switch. Lastly, Gui has final thoughts on Dicey Dungeons and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge and new thoughts on Citizen Sleeper.

The "wordy RPG in which you can kill yourself while inspecting a light" Guillaume was looking for is Disco Elysium.

Lastly, send email now.

Bayonetta is going in the flea dip.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/60748/episode-776-lice-are-a-big-problem-for-hair-demons

This week there's not exactly a theme to use to launch the article, so I wont. James passingly mentions that he's playing Card Shark, a game about cheating during the French Enlightenment. He encourages playing the demo. Guillaume has found his next brawler: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge. He seems to really like it, but he's been busy: he's also playing Dicey Dungeons and Pac-Man Museum+. Jon and Greg are both playing the demo for Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. Lastly, Greg closes New Business with Mario Strikers: Battle League and Shin Megami Tensei V.

After a break, we tackle a couple emails. First, in light of Nintendo's difficulty to sell the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 limited edition, Jon and James explore why this is so very hard. Our second email asks us to seed a tournament and decide: who will win. You can send us your eCommerce support questions here.

Investing in sports only makes sense if you made your money running a... uh... no comment.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/60691/episode-775-luigis-haunted-real-estate-speculation

Oh no, I'm running late on the article. Whatever shall I do?

I know, I'll write very brisk notes.

James and Greg played the demo for Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. Greg also has got his first kick at Mario Strikers: Battle League [Football]. Guillaume is done playing Nobody Saves the World and now is playing Space Invaders Invincible Collection. Lastly, Jon is playing Diablo Immortal.

Email, just the one, beloved series we refuse to give up on (and those we already did). Emails: here.

Podcast Discussion / Episode 774: Wii U EU Sounds Like a Police Siren
« on: June 05, 2022, 01:30:52 PM »

The sound you hear is called "The Last Cry of the Dead Enders."

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/60588/episode-774-wii-u-eu-sounds-like-a-police-siren

This is a bit of a deviation. We planned to do a bunch of email, but if you've been here for any stretch of time you know how that ended. The Lords of Thunder are dead, we are best defined in glacial references. This week we spend the entire first segment on a measly two emails. The first is an easy question: "what are some short Switch games for those who have lost the ability to dig in for long hours?" The second email is not a question, but a game, what games do Europeans consider games for "gamers." The answers may surprise you. Put on your flatcap, that I assume all Europeans are already wearing as they exit the womb, and get ready to guess.

After a break we take a look at the, relatively uninformative, new trailer for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. In true RFN fashion, a three minute trailer turns into a 40+ minute segment. We can never be concise. You can get your question over-answered by sending an email.

Shaded in the fog of years, I still remember a cloying sweetness.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/60502/episode-772-recollections-on-the-fall-of-big-foot-pizza

This week I'm writing doing short notes!

Syrenne joins us to talk about puzzles! Puzzles, you ask? Yes! Draknek & Friends, where she moonlights as a producer, had a busy week. Thursday they launched their second Draknek Direct, which contained a number of announcements, and also launched Cerebral Puzzle Showcase, a Steam event designed to highlight the puzzle genre on the platform. There was a lot going on, so she joined us to talk about the announcements as well as what it was like putting together this kind of package while also curating a Steam event.

After a break, we roll into a more traditional New Business segment. Jon has the Switch N64 controller which is exactly what it claims to be, and he has now actually read Reggie's book. James, motivated by Square Enix dumping its developer, is playing Guardians of the Galaxy on Xbox. Guillaume is still playing Final Fantasy XIII but he's also had the chance to play some local Switch Sports with the in-laws. Greg closes out the show with impressions of Actraiser Renaissance.

As always, send your emails.

Podcast Discussion / Episode 770: I'm a Sam NeillTuber
« on: May 08, 2022, 05:35:51 PM »

Welcome to day 11 of the sub-a-thon. Where we're going, we won't need eyes to see.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/60364/episode-770-im-a-sam-neilltuber

This week, Gui and James have Wii Switch Sports but both are still very new at the time of recording. Regardless, as the successor to one of Nintendo's most successful products, it merits some discussion. The lack of discrete information is supplemented with wild conjecture about DLC and the Online Expansion Pack. Guillaume is starting Final Fantasy XIII again, for some reason, and this serves as a reminder that this was a long time ago. Jon bought Reggie's new book, but he hasn't actually read it yet, so we speculate about what's in it. This is not a joke. Lastly, Greg has some final thoughts on the Switch version of Wonderful 101.

After a break, the crew takes-on two emails. James had intended to save the second for punishing the audience when they didn't send email, but everyone else on the show hates you. They demanded we read this email. Remember, who loves you when you listen to these two questions: "I don't know, just riff I guess" and "make yourselves into VTubers." You can do whatever these people did by slamming your face into your keyboard a few times, while pointing your browser here.

Podcast Discussion / Episode 769: Hangin' and Bangin'
« on: May 01, 2022, 08:43:36 PM »

Just imagine this episode title is in a script font, on the back window of a station wagon.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/60326/episode-769-hangin-and-bangin

Greg is out this week for the NFL draft, and so Guillaume, Jon, and James have a very mature show for adults.

Jon gets to start New Business with Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball, a recent addition to the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack. This pinball-inspired spinoff was the product of a two month development cycle, but all we can think about are high scores and speed-runs. Gui and James are both playing Tunic, now on Xbox and PC. With inspirations ranging from the first Legend of Zelda to Fez to Dark Souls, it's catching a lot of attention. Gui is having a lot more fun than James, but that might be because he's actually playing the game like a normal person. James also gives his final thoughts on Chinatown Detective Agency.

After the break we take on a duo of listener mail. This week we expansions pack Switch Sports and try to define nebulous terms like "game preservation." You can preserve our wisdom by sending us an email.

Podcast Discussion / Episode 768: Pickle Ball Death Pool
« on: April 24, 2022, 03:38:43 PM »

Online sports books have gone too far.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/60264/episode-768-pickle-ball-death-pool

The sudden hastening of Xenoblade Chronicles 3's release date triggered a flurry of conversation this week. While we speculated that this likely indicated a September release for Splatoon 3, at the time Nintendo had not confirmed as such. As a consequence, a large chunk of the episode is spent postulating on what is now old news.

Podcasting is timeless.

Also this week, we tackle quite a bit of New Business. James is hunting down leads in Chinatown Detective Agency. This visual novel/social studies quiz takes a lot of cues from the Carmen Sandiego games of James' youth, but really it isn't asking nearly enough of the detective. A distinct lack of Rockapella is also noteworthy. Jon is playing Cyberpunk 2077, upgraded for The World's Most Powerful Gaming Console, the Xbox Series X. His experience with the first person shooter was more positive than those who played it at launch, and he reflects on the studio that brought us Witcher making such a game. Guillaume throws dirt on the Wii U's long-buried coffin, with what is likely to be his last session of Wii Sports Club. With the impending release of Switch Sports, this is the end of the road for the little system that couldn't. He's also finally getting around to playing NEO: The World Ends With You, now with a less annoying protagonist. Greg closes out the show looking at games recently released for the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack: Mario Kart (Nintendo 64) and Space Harrier II, Shining Force II, and Sonic The Hedgehog Spinball for Genesis/Mega Drive.

As always emails go here.

Exploding birds, right on the front page.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/60223/episode-767-the-big-units-ornithological-photography

This week we've got a curious rundown of New Business. Guillaume starts the show again, because he has content. The Wild at Heart, a game that borrows more than a little from Pikmin, led to a revelation that camping sucks. Infernax, a Castlevania-style action game with "self-awareness" has us questioning the continued reliance on humorous references to wall chicken. James has [effectively] defeated Triangle Strategy. He has some thoughts on how much the branching actually matters, and how sophisticated all the skills and battle effects are developed. Jon is playing Light Crusader, a Genesis game now on Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack. It quickly sends the conversation to more fertile grounds: tall Frankenstein. Greg closes out New Business with an update on Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition and its crunchy full-motion videos. His comment on the release of Mario Golf 64 to the Expansion Pack spirals into a larger conversation about what we still want for the Nintendo Switch Online service.

Listener Mail this week talks: scarfs, good uses of easy mode, the Amico Onslaught, and why digital store fronts are butt. You can get three credit hour in Business Information Systems by sending us an email.

Podcast Discussion / Episode 766: Who Owns Your Pac-Mom?
« on: April 09, 2022, 02:05:00 PM »

Is she available?

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/60125/episode-766-who-owns-your-pac-mom

This week everything goes fine. James talks a little Forza Horizon 5 and Triangle Strategy. Guillaume finished Final Fantasy XII and like Greg is playing some Kirby and the Forgotten Land. He even has time to talk about Zuma, which is now back via back-compatibility. Jon finished off Grand Theft Auto V, and has some thoughts on playing Monster Hunter Rise as we await Sunbreak. Greg even has some impressions of Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition.

Everything is normal, even this very-normal tweet from a PR account.

The sound you're hearing is me rhythmically slapping the back of my right hand into the palm of my left, to emphasize how normal all of this is.

After a break we have a normal listener mail segment. We answer questions about this very normal valuation history for Devil's Third, about what we've learned from games, and if we've ever succumb to video game hype. You can send your very normal questions to our very normal inbox.

Round.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/60110/episode-765-this-isnt-even-steven-seagals-final-form

This week we're whole again, and start with big news. The Sequel to Breath of the Wild is postponed to 2023 and E3 2022 is cancelled. Add in the news that Dragalia Lost is... lost and an entire segment of news takes up the first half of our show.

After the break we do a brief New Business segment. James has a fast update on Triangle Strategy, and shares his theory that this is secretly a Visual Novel. Jon is playing Grand Theft Auto V again, this time on the newest generation of consoles. He's also looking at GTA+, which I presume is a streaming service for horrible street crimes. Greg and Guillaume are both deep in Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Greg is looking at it as a single player game with lots of objectives to complete, and Guillaume as a multiplayer title. Lastly, Gui has a terrible revelation.

You can reveal your awful, preferably blackmail-worthy, truths here.

Podcast Discussion / Episode 763: The Pangs of Turrican
« on: March 20, 2022, 11:42:56 AM »

This episode goes out to all my forty year old British brothers and sisters. Tape drives for life.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/59942/episode-763-the-pangs-of-turrican

You know how this works; there are games and we play them. We then come on this show and talk about them.

James postulated on this show that if Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury went on sale, he would buy it. It did, he did, and now he's played all of Bowser's Fury. Based on its sales, you've probably already seen it, but for the hold-outs like him here's a deep dive.

Jon actually watched a game-news broadcast, and now he's reflecting on the Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak news. He's going to buy another amiibo. He's also bought Grand Theft Auto V, now on its third PlayStation console. Lastly, he took a bit of a look at F-Zero X, now on the N64 Online Games.

Things become a bit jumbled now, because Greg has thoughts on the Genesis/Master System that also just made their way to Switch Online Expansion Pack. Speaking of Expanding your Online, the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - Booster Course Pass (part 1) is out and Greg leads some first thoughts on it.

Guillaume steps into the past with Turrican Flashback Collection. It's a lot of Turrican without dubbing them from a two cassette boombox.

After the break, Listener Mail time. This week we just address a single email, what games have we played "out of sequence" and had a different experience than most reviewers. You can fill the inbox now. Thanks to the terrible world we can't suggest harm to children anymore, so send them or I'll think of something even darker.

Podcast Discussion / Episode 762: Dry Bones' Fitness Routine
« on: March 13, 2022, 12:05:48 PM »

Adding bulk from the grave.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/59899/episode-762-dry-bones-fitness-routine

Are Dry Bones dead? They're animated at least.

New Business is back! Greg starts the show with quick impressions of F-Zero X, now on whatever the hell Nintendo is calling their double-premium online service that also features the lunar-aligned release of N64 games. I think there's both a C and a K. He devotes most of his time to talking about the demo for Kirby and the Forgotten Land. James is playing the second Voice of Cards, this one subtitled "The Forsaken Maiden." It turns out everything that started to grind on him in The Isle Dragon Roars is magnified in this far-too-soon sequel. Jon played a single level of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, so he is now an expert. He spends the majority of his time talking about Gran Turismo 7, which just launched for the PS5. It's a racing game for people who are aroused by the camber angle of their wheels, but don't feel the need to be intimate on stage. Guillaume closes out New Business talking about Unpacking while also unpacking. Gaming is an escape. He also played the original Psychonauts, which is available on Game Pass. Lastly, he finally rebought Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, as it is on sale and the DLC onslaught looms.

After a break, we dive into Listener Mail. This week we answer questions that probe our deepest fears: are there DS and Wii games that we passed on that have become unaffordable, what remakes are diminished by weird decisions by the developers, and what's the absolute worst garbage we've played. You can send us the absolute worst thing we've ever read by sending us an email.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/59833/episode-761-a-sumptuous-salubrious-celebration

It's March, and you know what that means: Radio Free Nintendo is finally getting into the business of reflecting on the games of 2021.

If you're new to the show, we each assemble a ranked list of Nintendo-system games from the previous year and take turns announcing our top five. There's no award for "Radio Free Nintendo's Top Game of 2021," but James' number one is usually close enough.

Pop open a bottle of bubbly, make some mistakes, and celebrate the best of 2021.

Podcast Discussion / Episode 760: And You Can Take That to the Bank!
« on: February 27, 2022, 12:03:23 PM »

Right into the drink.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/59780/episode-760-and-you-can-take-that-to-the-bank

Guillaume took the week off, and we ended up going long without his disapproving "lets move on." I had no regrets, until I started editing it.

New Business this week is meaty. James managed to get into the Nintendo Switch Sports network trial, and surprise, it's Wii Sports Resort on Switch + online. He only got to go hands-on with Chambara and Bowling, but both felt pretty good. He also explains how network tests work, in an exercise that is not at all self-indulgent. Jon bought Skyward Sword HD, and now we're all remembering how long it takes for that game to be a game. With the impending closure of the eShop, he's also done some eShopping. He bought Super Mario Advance 4: Mario Bros. 3 and Fire Emblem Fates. It turns out asking Twitter about what Fire Emblem to buy is going to be a lot. Greg is playing Majora's Mask, now part of the N64 Expansion Pack. Lastly, we conclude New Business with a wrap-up on Pokémon Legends: Arceus. We did not know about Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet at the time, but Greg's statement that the Pokémon train must roll-on was more right than he ever knew.

We then move onto Listener Mail and talk about... Pokémon Legends: Arceus. We're actually talking about resource management in games, and Pokémon Legends: Arceus left this topic already on our minds. We do talk other games: Destiny, Resident Evil, Breath of the Wild, etc. We also talk the most important resource: time, and how we wildly over-spent it.

Emails, send them here. Next week, Gui will be back and we will do our "Top Games of 2021." You can send us your top games, if you like. I don't have a plan for them, but sure. If you want.

Never have games been more limited.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/59707/episode-759-signing-publishing-deals-for-you-call-that-limited-ill-show-you-limited-games

Since the beginning of 2022 we have beseeched you for email. At current, we have about 25 questions that haven't been culled for duplication, quality, or having already been answered recently in other contexts. However, for the last two weeks, events have prevented us from spending time tending to our harvest.

That changes now.

This week we devote the entire show to email's bounty, and as a result we serve up exactly... four emails. The difference between chefs and short order cooks is the time to prepare. I am not implying that we are Michelin Starred, but we are waiting. This week we investigate: the small resignation happening in storerooms everywhere, the return of polygonal Odd Jobs, beating a dangerous addiction, and finding positivity in a world full of darkness.

You can tell us how you're spending your working hours by sending us an email.

Podcast Discussion / Episode 758: We Stared Into the Kirby Abyss
« on: February 13, 2022, 10:26:25 AM »

What we saw was 2017 as a turn-based strategy game.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/59683/episode-758-we-stared-into-the-kirby-abyss

IT'S THE RFN 2022 PREDICTIONS SHOW! We saw the future so you don't have to wait for the news.

Okay, so it was a Nintendo Direct, but we were going to predict things. We only had six weeks to do it; it's not our fault. You know the news that got announced this week, so you don't need me to rehash it here, but the key themes are: 2017 redux, the incoming wave of turn-based strategy, and Square Enix defiantly porting everything to Switch that isn't Final Fantasy.

The entire episode is devoted to the Direct, so you can think of this as 48 track DLC pack or a space being that wraps cars like... moving on.

You can send your questions here.

93

I am terrified of Pokémon, so I think I'll move to an island known for its wild Pokémon

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/59598/episode-757-catching-pokemon-for-the-perpetually-helpless

Every ten episodes we once again are "like the plane." This time Greg and James took a temporal flight to the past with impressions of Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

You can marvel at my transition skills. I'll wait.

Anyway, the entire first hour of the show is devoted to Greg and James trying to decide how they feel about this radical departure from the Pokémon template, and the ways in which it could have stood to deviate a bit more. Neither Greg nor James have managed to make it too deep into the game. Greg has been betrayed by the post, and so he got the game late. James however has had the game since launch, he's decided instead to play the game like a sociopath and refuse to advance the plot. These are your host in this discussion, RFN is RFN. You knew what you were in for.

After a break, Jon and Guillaume wake up and talk about games they've been playing. Guillaume has completed Unsighted, and wants to offer a few corrections. He was fine, art is what you make of it, but he's read an interview with the creators and wants to give clarity. He's also started Final Fantasy XII, because there just aren't enough long games on Switch. Jon has been playing some of the Switch Online NES games. First up is The Immortal, an NES isometric dudgeon crawler that is particularly inscrutable. He's also been playing his old go-to Solomon's Key. Lastly, he bought Castlevania Advance Collection and is digging into Circle of the Moon.

As always, all emails living or dead belong to Radio Free Nintendo.

Podcast Discussion / Episode 756: Kawaii Is in the Eye of the Beholder
« on: January 30, 2022, 04:38:00 PM »

【かわいいは見る人の目の中にあり。】

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/59539/episode-756-kawaii-is-in-the-eye-of-the-beholder

Greg was unable to join us this week, and given how the release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus rendered this episode obsolete within 20 minutes of recording concluding, it's fine.

In an attempt  at staving off the creeping grip of irrelevance, we dedicated the show to our email backlog. This inbox spelunking turned up three gems: "Why are Mario enemies so well-known," "What games would we have loved if they weren't unexpected jerks," and "What games are literally 'baby games for babies.'"

We know the inbox continues to reject your missives, and if this week's impassioned plea for your questions has you motivated, allow this link to facilitate.

Guillaume had a little New Business, so he ended the show with brief thoughts on the iOS version of Ghost Trick and more involved thoughts on Unsighted.

Podcast Discussion / Episode 755: Activision Acquisition Isekai
« on: January 23, 2022, 08:37:00 AM »

Nobody had to get hit by a bus... yet.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/59486/episode-755-activision-acquisition-isekai

If, following my exhortations, you're reading the article for the first time, then welcome. I took over writing the article in the 400s, so you only have about 300 episodes worth of articles to catch-up on. That's fine, because if my words pushed you here, then you've already heard what the episode is about.

But, since you're new here, let me give you the tour.

To the right of the article (or elsewhere, depending on if you're on mobile) there's a series of related links that connect this article to the topics we speak about. This week you'll see links to company profiles, news, and litany games.

Above, you'll see the links to the MP3 feed and iTunes feed, as well as links to the audio file. Here's a fun spoiler, we don't generate an AAC file anymore, nobody does, because Apple made it impossible unless you're in GarageBand. We still support both RSS feeds, because we have people subscribed to both, but they link to the same file. In some views there are shadows of a Zune feed, which is a thing we used to have. I believe we removed it, and yet some people allege they still see it. There's no reason to click; it goes to an error page.

Above that is some bold text. We call this the "abstract," and it shows under the title when viewed on the homepage. It's usually a follow-up joke to the episode title. It's often not about the contents of the episode. That said, to my knowledge, no one mentioned this week was hit by a bus. Metaphorically, you could probably argue...

The remaining space is this text, and for those of you who have not already heard it, I will now impart a rundown of the episode. I sometimes include commentary, depending on my mood and the completeness of my notes from the recording session. I also sometimes engage in what Jon calls "audience of one" behavior, which is to say jokes to amuse myself. I'm sure he will assert this needless field trip to the article meets this standard, except he wont read it. So I'm safe.

We've spent the entirety of 2022 demanding email questions be sent, in decreasingly fraught terms. At the start of the year we demanded dropping toddlers on their head, now we're suggesting you set them on the floor. Our thinking continues to evolve. This week, Microsoft's decision to spend nearly $70b to acquire Activision Blizzard, Inc. spurred a couple of questions - including one that explicitly banned business experts J&J from the conversation. Your loss. We did a deep dive on the corporate strategy of mega-companies, and why the normal calculus of costs to profit might not matter when your company's annual income outstrips the GDP of most countries on Earth. If you're Cronus you do what you need to do to prevent the rise of Zeus. Humans be damned. This also lead us to fearful emails about Nintendo's future, but it turns out there's more bulwarks to Nintendo's independence than some unnamed Japanese law that is constantly cited.

We're still facing challenges with our email provider deciding that RFN shouldn't have an email segment anymore. It's probably right, but an idea being ill-conceived has never stopped us before. The good news is this fancy webform will let you send us your questions if you're having problems with the email. Just do it on a desktop device, it seems the submit button is hidden on the mobile view... we're working on that too.

After an eventful news/email segment, we dig into a comparably light section of New Business.

Guillaume has finally finished The Great Ace Attorney, a 70 hour adventure game where there are NO loose ends. You think you found a plot thread that got dropped? Shu Takumi is about to hit you with an hour of exposition to prove he did not. Speaking of creators who have their vision and have no plans to change anytime soon, Gui has now moved onto Goichi Suda's No More Heroes 3. The "brash" style of the No More Heroes series resonates with Gui, but apparently its appeal is not universal.

Banjo Kazooie is finally out for the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass Nintendo 64 Online Games insert additional words here to emphasize how dumb this long name is. Greg is taking a look at the emulation of the Rare platformer, finally returning to Nintendo consoles decades after Microsoft bought...wait...

Speaking of Microsoft's all-subscription vision: James is playing Scarlet Nexus via the Xbox Game Pass service. Although he didn't know it at the time of recording, if you were playing Anime Plot Twist Bingo with this game, you'd fill in every space. One scene had 3 in a single sentence. It's absolute nonsense. Sadly the game lacks that kind of adventurousness in its gameplay.

Jon closes out New Business with a quick look at a few different titles. Tekken 7 is just as much of a nonsense game as any other game (excepting Tag 2 Wii U edition and its Mario powerups), and he's taken to playing a lot of bowling. That's right, bowling as a Tekken character. I feel like Alisa and her flying head is kind of unfair. He's also playing NHL 22, the latest NHL game from EA. He and James both played 19, and both felt it was a little convoluted to get good at. 22 seems to have smoothed out the edges and made it more approachable. Lastly, he's looking at some Xbox Backwards Compatible games in light of the on-going sale. First is Red Dead Revolver: the first Red Dead game, and its not an expansive open-world title. He also bought TimeSplitters 2 and Future Perfect (3) on sale, which means Gui can now be toxic to children online for a discount price.

That concludes the article tour. On your way out, please see below to find out who edited the show, produced our art and music, and get information about this week's ending music.

Podcast Discussion / Episode 754: Slow-Rolling Into Our Obituary
« on: January 16, 2022, 08:08:54 AM »

Itagaki was best known for his work on the Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden series, although his latest achievement was deceiving Nintendo to publish an absolute pile of garbage and to post a terrorist video to their socials.

We demanded emails, and you delivered. Excited to meet young emails in your area, looking to meet you, we speed ran a New Business mostly focused providing updates. James has cleared Langrisser I and started a second run to see how much the branching paths actually branch. It turns out, quite a lot. Greg is "playing" famed NFT series Castlevania, with Castlevania Advance Collection. "Playing" must be some new thing, I'm only familiar with "paying;" glad to see Konami try new things. He also kicks off a discussion of this week's Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Pokémon Legends: Arceus promotional videos. Jon has cleared Halo Infinite, and found the plot is more aspirational than actual. Lastly, Guillaume has embraced words with social media virus Wordle and the closing hours of The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles.

After a break, we dive into our inbox. We only managed to finish two emails this week, but they're robust topics: what people in the gaming sphere likely have pre-written obituaries and why can't we slow this industry down so someone can keep up with it. You can pre-write our obituaries by sending an email.

We've had some reports of getting emails bounced by our provider as "spam." We're looking into it, but if you're having issues the link above lets you submit them via a webform. That does appear to be working fine. So, please keep emailing. It's great.

Podcast Discussion / Episode 753: All My Joannas, Gone
« on: January 09, 2022, 12:14:00 PM »

Listening to Radio Free Nintendo MAY make you rich. Listen now to find out how!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/59339/episode-753-all-my-joannas-gone

Look, I'm going to start this article with a negative attitude, but it is your fault. You, right now, reading this, are to blame. You, who Time Magazine stupidly named "Person of the Year" in 2006, have created this. The fault is yours. All of you.

We are unblemished; our hands are clean. You will sleep the restless sleep of the guilty, we the sleep of cherubs with conscience unburdened. You shall see. You shall all see.

Welcome to 2022, and Radio Free Nintendo is back. We had a week off to play games and prepare New Year's New Business Feast.

Jon had an extra week off, due to his travels in the land of his birth. He continued to work through Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition but it is beginning to dawn on him that this kind of game cannot be left for infrequent plane rides and trips abroad: it is far too long for such unfocused play. At only 20 hours, of an estimated runtime of 2,000 hours, he really needs to settle in for the ride. He also took advantage of his time away from The World's Most Powerful Video Game Console™ to play Forza Horizon 5 via xCloud streaming. He, Gui, and James talk a little bit about the seasonal objectives in Horizon, the holiday decorations of Mexico, and how it plays on Microsoft's streaming service.

Guillaume has finally completed Shin Megami Tensei V, while Greg has used the time off to continue to delve deeper into the 100 hour RPG. Gui reiterates his position that these kinds of games should be significantly shorter to better comport with his preferred length. That said, he did do all of the optional content. As a quick aside, if you've held off on purchasing Shin Megami Tensei V, it is presently on sale on the eShop in a number of regions. He's also playing Mighty Goose - via Xbox Game Pass, but also available on Switch. He compares it to Metal Slug, which is extremely exciting. However, the co-op play is lacking, with P2 being limited to a comedy support role. It is probably only good if you really like the idea of laying eggs. We don't judge, except when we do.

Greg has used the holiday break to sample from a buffet of games. Dynamite Headdy, the very first RetroActive, is part of the Switch Online Games Expansion Pass. Also on the premium version of the premium service is Paper Mario, which he spent the holidays enjoying yet again. The rest of his New Business is spent on a couple of interesting purchases. First, he imported the Kid Icarus: Uprising soundtrack from Japan. Having finally settled to an acceptable price, he decided to pull the trigger and now talks about the package he received. He also decided it was time to buy a new GameCube controller, and by that I mean the Smash Bros. GameCube controller. We spend a little time talking about how faithful reproductions these controllers are and why they aren't (but should be) WaveBirds.

James spent the break doing James-like things. He could have spent this time exploring 2021's big games: SMTV or Metroid Dread, unburdened as he was by the toils of work. He opted otherwise, finding a more self-destructive path to his liking. Rather than playing a widely-regarded JRPG from this year, he pursued a marginal 2019 remake of Langrisser I & II. There is no justification beyond curiosity and a sale. Now he is left to study this Fire Emblem contemporary, featuring the art of the "Master of Breasts." Not content there, he decided to continue what might be a new, horrifying, annual tradition and spend his break with a Switch Visual Novel. This year, Worldend Club - a supernatural murder mystery that spends way too much time on cookie cutter romance stuff, and not enough on undead killers. Turns out the NWR Review was right on. But hey, it too was on sale.

After the break we decided to examine our inbox for a Listener Mail segment, but you all sent us literally zero questions over our break. None. Nil. I've never been so distraught, because it left us with a single to question, one we had left to fester in the inbox: "What moments from RFN would make good NFTs?" This question is impossible, as there is no such thing, but it also insults on a number of levels. It implies that we are incapable of coming up with a better - more fruitful and less obvious - scam to extract your currency, and I assure you we are far more deft at deceit than disinterested primates. This question also required we examine why and how NFTs happened, and lead to us coining the worst euphemism in our long history of wordcraft. The euphemism treadmill is now in reverse, we pursue worse terms still. We do not stray from God's Light; rather, we wander in perpetual darkness. Our sin is your sin. The only ablution is sending fresh, new, and safe questions. Failure to so may only lead us deeper into this well of depravity.

A voice echoes in the darkness; it is your own, and yet you find you cannot speak. Email is the only path to Logos.

Podcast Discussion / Episode 751: Kindergarten Cook
« on: December 19, 2021, 02:45:58 PM »

Who's YOUR daddy and what does HE stew?

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/59203/episode-751-kindergarten-cook

This week we start the show with a look at last week's Indie World Showcase. Foxes, Girlfriends, and a free Europe are all dead; but look at the cute foxes! This spirals into a conversation on the timing of the Showcase, just before the holidays, and how it has to slot into larger conversations on Nintendo's 2022 line-up. With Pokémon, Kirby, Advance Wars, and Zelda all on the horizon it stands to reason that finding a place to talk about these games could be tricky. Speaking of news, we also talk about the release of five Mega Drive/Genesis games for the Nintendo Switch Online service. It's time to answer the big question: "Bigger sprites: China Warrior or Altered Beast?" With everyone hunkered down in their current games, New Business is just a quick check-in on some games, and a look at new NSO title Paper Mario.

No emails this week, but you can fill our Santa's Sack with your emails here.

Podcast Discussion / Episode 750: Nowhere Left to Go but Backwards
« on: December 12, 2021, 02:24:00 PM »

Stay tuned for episode 749.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/59140/episode-750-nowhere-left-to-go-but-backwards

It's episode 750, and that's just horrifying. On the positive side, we decided it was time to flip the script - literally. You'll see what I mean.

Emails for our momentous non-occasion this week: willingly playing lesser ports, non-spin-offs that probably should have been spin-offs, modifying gaming for your health, and an uncompensated ad read for eShop alternatives. You can compensate us for your ad read by sending us an email.

Relatively light New Business this week. Greg and Gui are "linearly further along" in their respective quests to beat Shin Megami Tensei V, but don't have a tremendous amount to share this week. Guillaume is so enraptured, he finally decided to dig into Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse on the side. He has some thoughts on how demon negotiating has evolved between the last 3DS entry and the first Switch one. Jon wraps-up New Business with single player impressions of Halo Infinite.

Just a reminder, the RFN Patreon Episodes ARE BACK! You can catch up for $1 at the NWR Patreon. A new episode will be posted this Monday!

Podcast Discussion / Episode 749: All My Homies Hate Pinsir

He still doesn't have an evolution, because he isn't worth it.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/rfn/59092/episode-749-all-my-homies-hate-pinsir

We're back after a one week break, and we generated a lot of New Business. Gui and Greg give a dual update on Shin Megami Tensei V. Guillaume really loves this game, and has put over 20 hours in, and Greg is right behind. Gui dares to call this the best place for a newbie to the series to get their feet wet, so prospective neophytes to the series should listen up. Guillaume also gives an update on Pikmin Bloom, and an apology for his lack of pictures of park signs. Jon and James also give a dual update on the advanced couponing that is Black Friday gaming sales. This year its all about the gift cards and the digital sales. Jon has impressions of Returnal and the remake of Demon Souls, both on PS5. James has impressions of Lost Judgment, and advice on how he really "stuck it to the man" with Sega's new pricing models.

After a break, we dive into a trio of email. This week we commemorate the completion of a journey, always remember our first time, and get to know Metroid Dread Biblically. You too can send us your weird missives via the inbox.
