From Guitar Hero to Synth Rider?

If you're craving the days of traditional rhythm action games such as guitar hero you might want to keep an eye out for Synth Riders: Overdrive, announced today to be coming to the Nintendo Switch later this year. As a Synth Rider you ride on rails using hoverboards and the like to make stunts in time to the rhythm.

On the one hand, cool. On the other hand, terrible, terrible failure.

The Super Nintendo library in Nintendo's NSO-required Classics section has added three new games, including an import with an interesting developer pedigree and mouse support.

Might have some Pikmin music.

This morning, Nintendo posted an unnanounced short film on their YouTube channels. The video is called "Close to You". It bears no overt ties to any existing Nintendo franchises however some of the music does seem to reference tunes from the Pikmin series.

Some very odd takes on horror as we head toward Halloween, dood.

The two big Switch 2 games of the week are both different takes on horror: you get horror comedy in Disgaea 7 Complete (all DLC included), or you get the horror platformer Little Nightmares III. Or you get acid flashbacks to collectathon 90s platformers (derogatory) with Yooka-Replayee: as the name SHOULD imply, it's a higher definition version of one of the last crowdfunding success stories before Shenmue III did what Shenmue III does.

With two weeks to go until Pokemon Legends: Z-A, the final overview trailer for the game has been launched.

The six minute trailer serves to recap most of the news released thus far for the game, including a demo of the "Z-A Battle Club" which will be used to unlock Mega Evolution stones for the original Pokemon X and Y starter trio. The trailer also reiterates that the Switch 2 Edition will have enhanced framerate and resolution.

The biggest releases this week are causing quite a bit of emotional whiplash.

A week, ironically, from Hades itself.

So we're a little late to the party this week (save me Truck-kun), so let's hit the big ones. Hades II went 1.0 on both Switch 2 and OG, Pac-Man World Re-Pac 2: This Time It's Personal, a Switch 2 version of the Touryst which probably runs at 16k knowing Shin'en's history, and we have yet another mascot racer on the original Switch (blast processing not included). Or you can go full RPG sicko with the latest Atelier game.

Build an army? Trust no one.

Nintendo is returning to the mobile realm with their most successful mobile property.

"Fire Emblem Shadows" is available now on Android. The game is advertised as a combination of real time strategy and social deduction, in which it is necessary to determine who the "disciple of shadow" is following a strategy battle. The game has a forced landscape mode, and supports 10 languages including Japanese and English voice acting.

A pair of Namco Game Boy Advance games will be hitting the Switch Online Expansion Pack library next week.

The update scheduled for September 25 (JST) adds Klonoa: Empire of Dreams (2001), a puzzle platformer that serves as an interquel to the two console games. Also coming is Mr. Driller 2, a GBA version of a 2000 Namco arcade puzzle game later ported to PC.

They're pretty much what most wanted, when they wanted them.

Although the Super Mario Galaxy games aren't getting bespoke Switch 2 versions, they appear to be getting the next best thing.

A segment in today's Nintendo Direct included four third party games that will all receive Switch 2 Edition releases in the next several months.

Maybe this one will finally solve the mystery of The Funhouse. (If you know, you know.)

It's not often that the second game in a trilogy gets remade before the first, but Danganronpa is taking a shot at it.

Danganronpa 2x2 will be available on both Switch 2 and Switch in 2026, and features a full remake of the original adventure game alongside a "what if" story that will change the murderers and their victims from the original.

You're taking the best game of 2020 and giving it a female protagonist? Go on...

It wasn't quite a shadowdrop, but Hades II joined its predecessor in coming out in September after a Nintendo event.

The follow-up to the 2020 action roguelike, which has been in Steam Early Access for roughly a year, will emerge in 1.0 on September 25. The game will be available on both Switch and Switch 2, and buyers on Switch will be able to get the upgrade pack for Switch 2 at no additional cost.

Stepping on pretty much everything else coming out in that window, probably.
