Today Midway had a pleasant surprise for GameCube owners with the announcement that their latest iteration of Mortal Kombat would hit Nintendo's console on February 28th. The game was originally scheduled for a March release.

The publisher plans to anthologize Mega Man X and other games in its enormous back-catalog.
Today Capcom revealed two more collections of its classic games, following the success of last year's Mega Man Anniversary Collection. One of the new compilations will cover the Mega Man X series, which has grown to be almost as large and popular as the original Mega Man series from which it was spun off. The other compilation will include various other games from Capcom's history and may even include some arcade titles.

Electronic Arts has formalized the purchase of almost three and a half million shares worth of stock from Ubisoft, the entertainment giant announced today. Following on the heels of the initial announcement, EA now holds a whopping 3,497,049 shares of Ubisoft, each of which costs 19.69 Euros.

Nintendo's portable dominance will meet its greatest challenge yet. What is Sony bringing to the fight?
According to a report by CNN/Money, Sony will launch the PlayStation Portable, or PSP, on March 24th for the lucrative North American market. The handheld gaming platform/media player will retail for $249.99 and will include the system, AC adaptor for its rechargeable battery, a 32MB Memory Stick, and a portable version of the movie Spider-Man 2 (which was produced by Sony's film division).

That's what they get for including a free demo, making it multiplayer-friendly, and having GBA backwards compatibility.
Worldwide, more than 2.84 million Nintendo DS systems have been sold, a little less than half of which (1.39 million) are here in the States. Because of the phenomenal demand, Nintendo has raised its hardware sales expectations to 6 million DS units shipped out by the end of their fiscal year, which is March 31. That's a million more than previously expected.
