Including the newly named Wario: Master of Disguise.

Nintendo of America has posted first quarter release dates for next year, and they include a few big-name surprises.

Two Wii games, WarioWare: Smooth Moves and Wii Play will come first on January 15th. Hotel Dusk: Room 215 for Nintendo DS will arrive one week later on January 22nd.

February will include two highly anticipated ports, Diddy Kong Racing DS and Final Fantasy VI Advance for GBA, both releasing on February 5th.

Starting off March are two newly-announced games, Mario Party 8 for Wii and Wario: Master of Disguise for Nintendo DS, both slated for a March 5th release. Finally, Custom Robo Arena, a Wi-Fi enabled DS game, is scheduled to come out on March 19th.

Stay tuned to Nintendo World Report for coverage of these games as their release dates approach.

The question is though, will Wii Play come with or without a Wiimote.

SmadteNovember 17, 2006

That's it? For the entire 1st quarter? Zelda can only entertain me for so long. The lack of good, interesting, non-gimmicky games is bringin' me down big time.

mantidorNovember 17, 2006

aw, I was hoping Metroid Prime 3 or Super Mario Galaxy. I hope they won't make us wait for both until the end of the year.

vuduNovember 17, 2006

At least we know why North America didn't get the Wii Play/remote bundle. I wonder how much they're going to charge for the game alone.

It's still better than the Cube launch. At least on the Wii we get SOMETHING in the first quarter and Zelda has a lot more meat to it than any of the Cube launch titles did. Looks like I'll be waiting a little longer to get a Wii myself and this has a VERY early DS releases kind of feel to it. Oh well. Maybe by the time Metroid or Mario hits there will be a price cut.

I wonder what Wario: Master of Disguise is. Hopefully it's better than that Master of Disguise movie. My brother saw that on a bus during a school trip and likened it to torture. He spent most of time playing GBA but occasionally he looked up at his friend who was literally making faces of pure agony.

With Diddy Kong Racing DS being released are they not going to release DKR on the VC?

It's a Wario platformer, much like the GB and GBA ones.

Most likely not. Microsoft doesn't have a handheld (yet) so they have no problem letting Rare release games for the DS/GBA. They consider Sony their biggest competitor so anything that hurts the PSP is a good thing in their eyes. However, the Wii does compete with the 360 (even if Microsoft doesn't like to admit it) so the chances of seeing any Rare game on the VC is slim unless Nintendo owns the current rights to it.

Ugh, I was actually hoping for a slow first quarter considering I won't be able to buy all the 2006 games I want by the end of the year...Now I have to add Wario Ware, Wiiplay, Hotel Dusk, and Mario Party 8 to the list...And perhaps Wario DS, but I'll hold out and wait for impressions...

Nintendo fully owns the rights to any Rare game under the Starfox or Donkey Kong labels... face-icon-small-smile.gif

couchmonkeyNovember 17, 2006

I don't think Microsoft will bother with a handheld unless Xbox becomes a hit in the home console arena first. Nintendo clearly owns the handheld arena so much, it's a bad idea.

This list is exactly the kind of thing I was worried about: Metroid and Mario are nowhere to be seen, not to mention Batallion Wars II and Super Mario Strikers. Not even Project HAMMER or Day of Disaster? I'm sure Nintendo doesn't plan to release all six of those games in April...so...yucky dry spell. Not terrible, but worse than Nintendo implied. I'm used to Nintendo delaying things, but that's a lot of delayage.

Honestly, knowing this, I won't feel so bad if I can't get a Wii on Sunday.

edit: Wario: Master of Disguise sounds cool, but DS needs more games like Hollywood needs another computer animated movie about talking animals.

"Metroid and Mario are nowhere to be seen"

I can't believe people seriously thought these games would be released before April...Metroid will be Summer, Mario Galaxy will be Fall...

I predict that both Battalion Wars and Strikers will be out before June...

Wow, Mario Party 8!

This gives us more time to pick up perhaps elebits, or for all of youse who are only getting two games to widen your launch library.

So we've got the Wario Ware mini-game collection in mid january... and Wii Play in mid january too for Nintendo to "relaunch" its Non-gamer intiative.

And then we get Mario Party 8 like... so soon!

BUT, we don't see Metroid or Project H.A.M.M.E.R. anywhere there, strange. Is Metroid really being pushed back for online? Is Project H.A.M.M.E.R. being pushed back for quality reasons so it isn't a junk title?

Also, we don't see Mario Galaxy, suggesting a Spring 2007 launch ala NSMB, and we see that America isn't getting Pokemon Diaqmond or Pearl anytime soon... will those hit summer along with the online capable Wii game?

Good thing. It would a shame if legal issues prevented Star Fox Adventures from being re-released ever again. Now Goldeneye deserves to remain in limbo for all eternity but SFA? No way! face-icon-small-wink.gif

Bill AurionNovember 17, 2006

Sadly, Ninty has two obstacles to getting Goldeneye: MGM (I believe that's who owns it, right?) and Activision, who now has the license to make games off the series...

Pokemon Pearl/Diamond will likely be April/May along with Battle Revolution...H.A.M.M.E.R. will be Summer...

TJ SpykeNovember 17, 2006

The only problem with Diddy Kong Racing being on the Virtual Console is that I think they would have to first remove Conker and Banjo from it.

Wii Play should either come bundled with a Wii Remote (like it is in every other region) or be budget price, I can't see it being worth $50.

I see Metroid Prime 3 coming out in May and Super Mario Galaxy in July.

QUOTED FOR TRUTH!

And to add to your list, I see SSB Brawl being released sometime late fall or early winter, just in time for XMAS.

IceColdNovember 17, 2006

Wow, I really thought they would stagger it so that Q1 would have more appealing games. At this rate, there will be a rush of awesome titles, and I know I won't be able to keep up..

There's no way Galaxy will be released later than Summer '07. Brawl should be a holiday release, and Metroid maybe Spring. I wonder where Super Paper Mario fits into this..

ShyGuyNovember 17, 2006

What do we know about third party Wii titles? Ubisoft has some more games coming soon, right?

Smash_BrotherNovember 17, 2006

These aren't ALL of the titles coming, people.

C'mon Sonic! All hopes rest on you!
