Investors accepted the proposed merger of Sega and Sammy at a general stockholders meeting today.

The next step in the developing story of the merger between Sega and Sammy, Sega's shareholders today approved of the pending merger in October. With Sammy's shareholders doing the same just last Friday, it appears that all is set for the two to join forces and become Sega Sammy Holdings.

Japan's Game Market Shrinking

Maybe Iwata knows what he's talking about.

According to a story at Nikkei Net, conveniently translated by the fine folks at Video-fenky, the gaming market in Japan is getting smaller. Console sales have dropped off dramatically as most of the people who want current systems have already bought them, and game sales are down too. The overall market is down for the third year in a row, with sales declining 11% in just the last year.

New Name for Mario Pinball GBA

Nintendo's website shows an extra word tacked onto this GBA title's name.

According to Nintendo's official website, Mario Pinball for Game Boy Advance has been renamed. The game is now known as Mario Pinball Land, which fits with the game's focus on moving among dozens of themed pinball boards. A single ball will often move back and forth through numerous boards, giving the game a sense of exploration that hasn't been seen since Pinball Quest on NES.

321 Studios Sued for Games X Copy Software

Backed by the ESA, publishers Atari, EA, and Vivendi-Universal sue 321 Studios for violating copyright protection laws.

Yesterday, Atari, EA and Vivendi-Universal filed a law suit against the creator of the game copying software Games X Copy. Citing its history of software products designed to circumvent copyright protection measures, the companies accuse 321 Studios of violating the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, which makes any attempt to reverse-engineer or otherwise circumvent copyright protection technologies illegal.
