WARNING: CHALLENGER APPROACHING

We'll be finding out what is coming to Smash Bros outside of the E3 digital event.

Nintendo has announced a presentation by Masahiro Sakurai detailing new Smash Bros content will air on Sunday at 7:40 a.m. PT / 10:40 a.m. ET / 1640 CET.

The video is timed to start 20 minutes before the Lucas downloads become available, but may confirm content beyond that. We'll be on top of it for you.

This has got to be to showcase more DLC.  Hopefully the smash bros poll results too.

UncleBobRichard Cook, Guest ContributorJune 08, 2015

Poll Results: Duck Butt won with 75% of all ballots cast.  Dick Butt DLC Launch Party with 4Chan TBA.

The thrill of new smash brothers characters is like no other.

kokumakerJune 08, 2015

It may finally be time to announce which new character is going to be added as a result of all that fan voting that was held a while back!

Luigi DudeJune 08, 2015

We won't see the poll results since the site says the deadline for that is October 3rd.  The winner of that won't be announced until the end of the year Nintendo Direct.

But I do expect this Direct to show Ryu and Roy along with a shitload of DLC stages.  Since it's getting it's own Direct I wouldn't be surprised if they show Wolf as well.  Hell, if the Direct is 20 minutes, I wonder if they might even show some bigger stuff like new modes, maybe the Wii U version getting a real Adventure mode.

Like we've all known, DLC for Smash Bros is a gold mine and I wouldn't be surprised if Sakurai is about to pick us all clean.

SorenJune 08, 2015

I'm sure this video will announce Roy. You think they'll wait to unveil Ryu at the digital event.

Evan_BJune 08, 2015

Or, you know, they could just be talking about the Lucas/Miiverse DLC.

kokumakerJune 08, 2015

But we know all about that stuff already, Evan. There's no sense in dedicating an entire Direct just to that.

I hope you're right about DLC stages, because Smash doesn't need new characters: it needs new stages to fight on. As for Ryu & Roy, I hope that was a gigantic red herring because I don't want either character in this game. We already have a full quota of swordsmen and shitty 3rd party characters (Sonic).

kokumakerJune 08, 2015

I would really appreciate an adventure mode of some sort, personally. The Wii U Smash feels sorely lacking without it. It hasn't held my attention to nearly the extent that Brawl and Melee did.

I actually find this pretty perplexing, especially after they just dropped that 3DS Micro Direct. Given what everyone assumes is going to be a pretty thin E3 without new console news or Zelda WiiU, you'd think they'd save as much as possible for the main digital event. Very little gets the same kind of attention as new Smash characters.

Bman87301June 08, 2015

I'm amazed how many people still think the Roy/Ryu thing is legit. Sure, Ryu could be believed as a possible fighter... but Roy? Use some critical thinking people-- they already have another character named Roy, already have a direct clone of Marth, and Roy's game is now 14-years old and a pretty obscure part of the FE canon. The most I could imagine actually happening would be a Roy Mii costume-- Roy as full character is too impractical to happen. There's no doubt in mind that the data was a joke. Especially when you keep in mind the all too convenient fact that the none of the included music files are of new renditions-- just direct rips from SF2 (one of which was a stage theme which doesn't even make sense to be grouped with character data) and a duplicate of the FE victory theme-- just enough information to make it 100% clear to whom these characters' names were meant to refer to-- that just screams "hoax" to me. If anything, I'm thinking they're being planned as Mii costumes, and this data is just their clever way of teasing it.

Cutting room floor is a very reputable source and have leaked other unannounced features such as 8 player smash, master orders/crazy orders, the dlc shop and new remixes of Mario Paint & Nintendo Land.

AdrockJune 08, 2015

The lack of remixed music raised an eyebrow, but I don't think that means much as far as Ryu and Fire Emblem Roy go.

What's weird to me about Ryu's victory theme and stage music is that they aren't remixed or updated in any way. They both sound ripped from Street Fighter II. Granted, Super Smash Bros. has included the original music and sound effects from older games, but Sakurai has gone all out before with hiring all those composers to remix songs so I'd expect the same here. I suppose there's nothing stopping remixes from appearing in an upcoming update (in addition to the originals) that actually include Ryu though it's odd that anything would be included in this update. Maybe this is a meta-troll, included only since Sakurai is aware that the update would be data-mined immediately so it was thrown in there to drive everyone crazy with rumors and speculation... SAKURAIIIIIII!!!!!

Sakurai mostly plays by his own rules so it's difficult to rule anything out... Except Ridley. If Ryu (and Fire Emblem Roy) are DLC, remixed music could always be included in the actual updates. I'm ready and willing to buy all characters and stages. It doesn't matter who or what either.

Bomberman.  Bomberman.  Please be Bomberman.  I really want to see the revival of Bomberman.

nickmitchJune 08, 2015

Now that I think of it, the video will probably be a 20 minute instructional video of how to download the Lucas DLC.

As I re-read my post, I see how I may not have been clear by my meaning. I wasn't suggesting the data wasn't really found in the game, just that it was a joke purposly left by the programmers to troll data miners and definitely NOT legit character data. The facts are pretty overwhelming--  the music files are too conveniently placed as they serve no other purpose than to confirm who the names are. Plus, why make Roy a full fighter when simply adding him as a Mii costume is far more logical?

Mop it upJune 10, 2015

This makes me wonder how much DLC they're making, unless they're really going to stretch out showing off Lucas and the Miiverse stage.
