Nintendo DS Sells One Million in Europe DS

That's one million less than two million but one million more than the PSP.

According to Nintendo of Europe, Nintendo DS sales have reached one million in Europe. The DS launched on the 11th March 2005 in the region, and it sold 500,000 units in its first three weeks alone.

Play-Yan Gets an Upgrade GBA

The PSP isn't the only one that can get firmware updates, you know.

Owners of the GBA Play-Yan Media Player will soon be able to upgrade the unit's movie playback capabilty. An update is in the works that will allow for higher-quality MP4 format movies to be displayed, as well as the addition to listen to them in high-quality stereo sound. Currently, the Play-Yan is only capable of playing back ASF format MPEG-4 video in mono sound.

Website Aims to Change Nintendo's HD Policy Wii

Gaming activists have created an entire website devoted to bringing high-definition capabilities to Revolution.

After Nintendo's recent confirmation that Revolution is not currently set to include support for HDTV resolutions, strong reactions on several sides of the issue have come from fans and the media alike. AFTRA is still going through with the new deal, but the Screen Actors' Guild decides it's still not a fair one and pulls out.

Eariler this month, the two unions and game publishers reached an agreement on increasing payments to voice actors featured in videogames. It was a reluctant agreement, however, since Hollywood was looking for the game industry to offer residual payments to actors who star in top-selling games.

Revolution Eschews High Definition Wii

Nintendo says HD is not the future.

First they removed component video support from the GameCube; now Nintendo has confirmed that the Revolution will not be supporting high definition video outputs, such as 1080i and 1080p. Sony and Microsoft have already announced support for such formats with their respective next-gen consoles.

Voice Actors Reach Agreement with Publishers

A new deal with voice actors will see a pay increase up front for game vocals, but no long-term residual payments.

The Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists have struck a three-and-a-half year agreement with videogame publishers to see that voice actors used in videogames are fairly compensated for their work. The previous deal expired at the end of 2004.

Iwata confirms downloadable classic games will not be free, Nintendo-branded DS hot-spots, downloadable DS demos, and more!

Today Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announced that Nintendo will operate one thousand wireless access points in Japan to encourage the growth of its online Nintendo DS games.
