Players can go up against NBA legends in one-on-one matches in one of the new modes in NBA Jam.

NBA Jam will feature new modes never seen before in the series when it comes to Wii this October, and two of those modes, Boss Battles and Backboard Smash, were detailed in a recent feature at 1UP.com.

Boss Battles are new one-on-one showdowns where you take on NBA legends. Unlike the rest of the game, it shows one half of the court with the basket at the top of the screen and mid-court at the bottom half. Each NBA legend has their own introduction video, custom background, and special ability. For example, Magic Johnson can teleport and easily set himself up for baskets.

Backboard Smash is one of the different gameplay modes in Remix Mode, which has been talked about in the past but never had any specific announcements. In the mode, you play a normal game, but instead of going for the most points, your goal is to destroy the opponent's backboard, which deteriorates over time. Dunks deal more damage, and if you goaltend, you heal your opponent's backboard.

NBA Jam is being developed by EA Canada, and is set for release this October.

The Backboard Smash sounds interesting. I hope we see even more twists from the Remix Mode.

The cooler this game sounds the more I see it Bouncin over to the other consoles.

These modes have Trophy/Achievements written all over it.

I want this for my Wii soooo bad but I also want to compare my score and compete with friends with ease online. YES that is possible on the Wii but being the top of 3,000 and 300,000 people is a BIG difference.

I wholeheartedly agree.

Would I pick Jam up if it were offered for the PS3, too?  At $30, possibly...  :)
