Paper Mario 3DS Release Dated, Undated for Europe

Posting attributed to "technical error."

The Nintendo of Europe website has designated March 25, 2011 as the release date for the 3DS iteration of Paper Mario. This date lies near the end of the promised 3DS launch range, which ends with Nintendo's fiscal year on March 31, indicating that the game will either be a launch title or release within the first few months of the 3DS system launch. So far, the title has only been shown as a non-interactive tech demo.

However, the site was later updated with the following message: "Release date is to be determined. A technical error previously stated an inaccurate release date. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused." The current website redirects to Nintendo’s main E3 site, but the page can be found through NOE’s website search.

At the very least they have reconfirmed that the 3DS will launch before March 31st.

This may have been a planned leak as it in no way reveals the date of the 3DS release, but reaffirms investors that Nintendo is about to start printing money... again, even more, and soon.

Unless Nintendo is going to try a worldwide launch this news does give hope that the U.S might get the 3DS before Christmas since we usually get stuff before our PAL friends. Also the original DS launched first in America, and I hope Nintendo has realized that while Japan may be their home, the money is here!

But Nintendo is pretty much selling the DS as fast as it can make the system here in North America, it's Japan where sales have slowed down (to be fair though, sales of all game systems have slowed down in Japan). I am also not sure they needed to re-confirm something they first announced less than 2 months ago.

I want the 3DS so much, but I don't want the DS to suffer a premature death. Hopefully publishers will continue making DS games for a few more years since the 3DS is backwards compatible.

Nintendo will always and forever focus on Japan first and everywhere else second, no matter how much more money those other markets could make them.

Other than the fact that their last two systems launched in North America first, not to mention that their biggest game of 2010 (Super Mario Galaxy 2) also launched here first. Japan may be their main focus, but they realize that North America is their biggest market. I do wish they would give us stuff like the Minna no Wii Channel and all of those Japanese DS Apps here though.

I think this pretty much confirms a global launch of around March 25th.  And I think March may be the launch for everyone except Japan.

TJ SpykeJune 19, 2010

I fail to see how a glitch confirms even a PAL date, yet alone global date.

It's an official Nintendo web site. Unless it was deliberate misinformation, that is the date Nintendo has set for it, meaning they at least intend for it to launch then.

i said in the release date thread and i'll repeat it here.

March 4 2011 for USA : 3/4/11

is 3d

D is the 4th letter in the alphabet. So 3-D makes sense or March 4th is my crazy prediction

Nintendo launches hardware on Sundays; March 4th is a Friday.

ds has already been out for (6 years?)..so premature death is not happening

TJ SpykeJune 19, 2010

The DS is still the strongest selling system, so ending it anytime soon would be premature. I would also point out that the Game Boy was out for 9 years before its successor (Game Boy Color) came out, NES was out for 7 (based on Japanese release dates).

Spak-SpangJune 19, 2010

Yes, and premature would be this holiday season.  However, you must remember it is important in this time of portable gaming to get a new system out.  And if you think the Apple iphone 4.0 won't be a 3DS competitor your blind to the market.

It was hard for me to tell whether Paper Mario 3ds was a remake of the original, or something entirely new. The graphics were certainly updated, and it showed off some touchscreen stuff.

ThePermJune 19, 2010

i keep forgetting to comment on the game

this sounds awesome! There were always depth perceptual problems with paper mario, but its style lends itself really well to 3d!

StratosJune 19, 2010

I'd better start saving for a 3DS now.
