The latest game in the Zelda series will use MotionPlus for swordplay and targeting.

At a recent Q&A session held in Tokyo, Japan, game designer Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that the next Zelda game on Wii will require MotionPlus for realistic swordplay and targeting. In the session he stated that “In this (installment of the series), we’re using MotionPlus to make you feel much more like you’re actually fighting while holding a sword in your hand,” .

Regarding the targeting, the designer explained that “In the previous game, you aimed at things by pointing at the screen, but this time we’ll use MotionPlus to create a much more convenient targeting system and a more pleasurable playing experience.”

At a roundtable discussion at E3 2009, Miyamoto stated that he wished to make a Zelda game that required MotionPlus, but was waiting to see how the adoption rate for the unit would go. This is an official confirmation that the new Zelda title will utilize the unit for enhanced gameplay.

Hope they pack Motion+ in with the game.  I can't see myself having one beforehand (there is surprisingly very few games in the works that will need it; I really thought Nintendo would push it more).  And, hey, most people won't have a Motion+ for every one of their remotes so there's value in a pack-in even for someone who already has Motion+.  Odds are you could use an extra.

Wasn't this confirmed like four months ago?

Yes and no.

Miyamoto was back and forth about MotionPlus being a possibility and a requirement. This is the first time he has said beyond the shadow of a doubt that it will be in Zelda Wii.

I knew Shiggy would let it out sooner or later.

Me too. It isn't looking likely that I'll have one by then.

Ian and Mop_it_up are terrible people for not owning the fantastic Wii Sports Resort. Also, Zelda Wii's not coming out before Red Steel 2.

Chozo GhostNovember 04, 2009

Good. It would be really stupid of them NOT to have + support. I already took it for granted that it would be.

Use these:

To get this:

and 2 other games you want.

Now you'll have 2 Motion Plus units

Can't use that to get that.

Only on games $49.99 or less.  The two-pack is $59.99.

Red Steel 2????????

I'm sure the Grinder will use it too. We haven't heard of much coming out next year, so it's a little premature to say that Nintendo isn't pushing it.

I figured this was pretty much going to be the new standard remote though.  I figured nearly EVERY Nintendo first party game from here on out would use it.  But aside from the Zelda all the stuff in pipeline very specifically DOESN'T use it.  The push of it is much smaller than I expected.

Yeah, same here.  I've been tempted to pick up a Motion +, but there isn't a single game on the market I'm interested in that uses it and of the titles Nintendo has been confirmed to be working on only this new Zelda will use it so what's the point of getting one now?

Didn't you answer your own question?

EDIT: Nah, not really in the mood today to be a jerk.

Yeah, I intentionally answered my own question to make a point about the Motion + so far: if you don't like Sports games, there's no point to the thing yet and no real reason to buy one.  Hopefully, the new Zelda will show there's a reason the thing exists, and prove to be a new launch for the accessory along with a host of other Motion + required Nintendo titles.

TIGER WOODS 2010 W/ MOTION PLUS - THE DEFINITIVE VERSION
Grand Slam Tennis

I see how could forget the 2nd one, but the 1st one was a major step forward for the series.

Mop it upNovember 06, 2009

I'm just not really interested in the games which currently use the accessory. I'm not a fan of simulation sports. None of the sports in Wii Sports Resort seem terribly interesting. Red Steel 2 looks too violent. Besides, I'd need to at least play Red Steel 1 first.

BlackNMild2k1November 06, 2009

"Besides, I'd need to at least play Red Steel 1 first."

The two games are related in name alone. Other than that they really don't have anything to do with each other. So skip the 1st a *continue waiting* with the rest of us for the sequel.

BTW I'm sure you would enjoy WSR if you played it, even more so if you played it competitively with your sister.

Mop it upNovember 06, 2009

My sister doesn't like to play games competitively. Are there any co-op games in Wii Sports Resort?

BlackNMild2k1November 06, 2009

kayaking.

But why does your sister hate competitive play?
She afraid you'll beat her everytime?

Mop it upNovember 06, 2009

Maybe. But she just isn't a competitive person, like me.

Span Smasher uses Motion Plus but yeah, Nintendo still hasn't picked the ball up again, they needed to have more MP games.
