UBISOFT OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCES TITLE AND FIRST DETAILS OF NEW FAR CRY® GAME FOR Wii™

Award-Winning Far Cry Franchise Debuts on a Nintendo Console with Far Cry® Vengeance

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- September 21, 2006 -- Today, Ubisoft officially announced the title and details for its upcoming Far Cry® video game for the Wii™: Far Cry® Vengeance. Based on the highly successful Far Cry Instincts™ Evolution, Far Cry Vengeance expands on the experience with a new storyline, new maps and new weapons. The game takes advantage of the revolutionary Wii Remote and Nunchuk allowing players to drive, shoot, slash, jump and climb their way through a rebel-infested, tropical hell. Far Cry Vengeance will be a Wii launch title.

About the Game

The incident at Jacutan Archipelago changed Jack Carver's life forever. Jack has had little choice but to embrace the disturbing talents unleashed by Krieger's unique brand of folk medicine. Back at his home port in Micronesia, Jack thought he had finally found paradise. But when a gorgeous woman draws him in on a dangerous heist, their sun-drenched days take a chilling turn. Hunted for a murder he didn't commit, Jack must draw on his most savage instincts to make his predators his prey. Game features include:

--Wii Unleashed: Dig deeper into the power of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk through survival tactics that include driving, shooting, jumping, balancing, climbing, throwing grenades and Far Cry's ever-popular Feral attack.

--Weapons: Choose from a variety of weapons in a struggle to endure the rebel-infested jungle. Take down an unsuspecting victim from behind with a machete or meet the fight head-on with your machine gun.

--Vehicles: From ATVs to hovercrafts, pickup trucks to Jet Skis, drive over, around and through vicious combat situations.

--Interactive Environments: Utilize the lush, tropical surroundings to your advantage, using stealth to sneak through the foliage past unsuspecting rebels.

--Unleash the Wrath: Feel what its like to be the predator, not the prey, as you unleash the beast within. Jump higher, run faster and slash with more fury than all of your enemies combined through the animalistic Feral abilities unique to the Far Cry series.

--Multiplayer: Challenge your friends in Far Cry Vengeance's frenetic Chaos mode as you battle to be the last person standing.

In the screenshots, Why do his hands make it look like he is a burn victim?

wanderingSeptember 21, 2006

So what you're saying is, the graphics are a far cry from being awesome?

zakkielSeptember 21, 2006

Yup. Everything has a price, and we're seeing the cost of Nintendo's decisions. Not that I think they were bad decisions at all, but it does mean a lot of ports will look deeply crappy.

GoldenPhoenixSeptember 21, 2006

I'm still going to wait until I see it in motion before I make any statement on its visuals, I've learned you cannot judge a game visuals based solely off a screenshot.

IceColdSeptember 21, 2006

Well, they must be rushing this game to have it ready for launch - I mean, we hadn't even heard about this until about a week ago.. They probably aren't focusing as much on the visuals as on the gameplay. The games from E3 are much improved graphically - for E3 the developers focused on the controls and gameplay rather than the graphics, and now they're polishing the games.. Rightfully so, since it was the gameplay that made the Wii the winner at the Expo. Ubisoft should probably delay this to finish it up properly, but I wouldn't bet on them doing so.

ShyGuySeptember 21, 2006

Well, I don't think it looks too bad except for his hands. It's like he dipped them in boiling oil a few years back. I'll be able to get a better idea of the visuals once a video comes out. One of decent quality, that is.

ShyGuySeptember 21, 2006

Well, reading the interview over at IGN the Ubisoft guy says it will look at least as good as the Xbox version, so I'm not worried.

His hands need skin grafts in that trailer too, so apparently it's a "feature."

Those screens look fine. The recent ones look terrible. We've seen that the Wii can do better.

Every screenshot of seen thus far looks awful. Textures are really low res, anything not immediately in front of you looks blurry, and everything looks like it has a really low polygon count. I guess I'll just wait until I see some gameplay videos to pass a final judgement.

So uh, no online?

Nope.

IGN Wii: Will there be an online component?

Fabrice Cuny: We are exploring the possibility to have an online multiplayer mode, so I can't talk too much about it.

IGN Wii: Are you planning to take advantage of WiiConnect24 to offer upgrades and other downloads to Wii Far Cry owners?

Fabrice Cuny: Like the online multiplayer, we are still exploring the possibilities.

the thing that bothers me most about the graphics are that for a game that features alot of trees and other plant life this version's trees are terrible. The leaves are completely composed of a single Plane (a flat one sided poly), im sure the GCN as well as the Wii can support higher poly trees. If it wasn't for the trees i think most of the game looks pretty good except a few low res textures here and there.

I swear i hope Ubisoft is listening to me when i say this, Ubisoft has a giant potential to come out of the Wii launch with some serious future backing by the Wii audience or be known forever as the port publishing company that give us old games that can be found for $15-$20 instead for $49.99.

It's obvious that Jack isn't the kind of man that washes his hands.

If the bullets don't kill you, his BAD HYGENE will.

Looks "meh".

Man has leporsy. Farcry: Escape from Leaper island. Snake pliskin, errr I mean Jack Carver must retrive the president's suitcase and return it in 72 hours before a NBC strikes vapourises him, the suitcase and a quater of continetal US in the new jihading cusade of scientology.
