Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Deep Dive

John didn't sleep the night of Switchmas, can you tell?

I was ready for Mario, I was ready for Zelda. What I wasn't ready for was Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Don't get me wrong I was absolutely confident that one was in development for Switch but at most I figured it would be a port of Xenoblade Chronicles X, or at most a text only tease with a short glimpse a pre-rendered sword or robot to get us all excited. What we wound up with was an albeit short but substantial trailer for an entirely new game. Will it make it to the states in 2017? I doubt it but at least the Switch isn't region locked so we can always import the Japanese version which will undoubtedly launch much earlier. I can't wait to see more of this game, analyse its world, and painstakingly compare its scale with other open world RPGs but for now, let's talk about the trailer.

I see a bit more of a Colony 6 vibe from the town in the trailer, myself. Something I would add about the trailer that might be important to the theme of the story is the emphasis on trees and also fire. Most of the transitions you see in the trailer are in flames, as is the revelation of the 2 at the end. You can also see the large floating tree in a number of shots.

One final detail is the recurring "Lifehold" shape on the two female characters as well as the new Monado(?). It's a symbol that has appeared in other Xeo- titles as well, but didn't crop up in the original Xenoblade, interestingly enough. Just some food for thought!
