Gamestop stores are hosting Guitar Hero 3 launch parties beginning at 11 pm on Saturday, and selling the game at midnight.

I'd buy this then, but two tests dictate a "No." until Wednesday afternoon or night. However, I'm supposed to battle my brother-in-law before I ever touch the game elsewhere, and having never played the other three in the series, I don't know how well I'll do. I've seen videos, and I think I'll do well enough to secure his defeat, but he'll have had a week or so of practice before then. Should I be "Air-Guitar-Heroing?"

You just need to learn the key holding on the hand that holds the um... neck of the guitar. I think... I think this game is easier to pick up than DDR actually since for us videogamers, it's finger-based. You ever play an instrument?

GoldenPhoenixOctober 26, 2007

I think I'll wait for the true music game, Rock Band.

that Baby guyOctober 26, 2007

Yes, I was a premiere Euphonist (Euphonium player) in my high school band. Also, I can conduct. Also, I think I'll win. Now, I'm right handed, so which hand pushes the buttons in this case? Before, on a Euphonium, it was the right one, but I get the feeling this time it would be the left. Am I correct in making this assumption?

vuduOctober 26, 2007

For some reason there's no love for Guitar Hero on this forum. I'll be picking up the game, if for no other reason than to see what all the fuss is about.

Probably one of those reasons is because it isn't even made by the same developer and instead that developer is working on Rock Band.

Righties hold the neck in their left hand so they can strum furiously with their dominant hand. You do need some agility in the fingers of your left hand, but the crucial timing is mostly on the strumming part.

I suggest new players skip the Easy setting unless you really, really, really suck, because it doesn't even feel like you're playing pretend guitar at that level. If you're good at rhythm games, you might even want to skip straight to hard so that, unlike me, you don't have to unlearn how to play on medium. I've learned to associate the patterns on screen with my fingers instead of with positions, so I can't handle hard mode with its extra button. Of course, all this assumes that they continue to use the same settings as the previous games.

One more tip: when you play on hard mode, don't try and stretch your pinky to hit that fith fret

seriously you will hurt yourself

move your whole hand down

Great, now I'm going to have that "Pop Star" song from Ouendan 2 in my head all day.

I didn't say Guitar Hero III; I said Guitar Hero.

I'm all done with buying rhythm games with obnoxiously large controllers.

I learned that one the hard way with four sets of bongos sitting around for years. face-icon-small-tongue.gif

In the morning, I get to set up a PS2, two Guitar Controllers and a surround sound system - on our back TV wall. Should be neat.

So, now we finally have GH on a Nintendo system, what are the chances they will port the first two over to the Wii?

Doubt it, really it seems like GH is one of those series of games where people buy the newest edition and forget all about previous ones.

Dunno. Since there's no downloadable content available for the Wii version then a port would be the only way to get your hands on the older songs (unless they are already included with #3).

Wii Developed by Nintendo expert Vicarious Visions who is integrating unique Wii features with possible Nintendo content (i.e. Mario)

Anyone heard if the Wii version gets special content? We know about the Wii-specific features that come with the Wiimote - wireless, tilt-sensing, sound effects - but this is the only time I've heard about possible differences in content.

mario playable coming like whut

And yet, you spent over 300 dollars on a DDR hard pad :P XD .

Just kidding, but there's no denying we had a blast with the bongos.

As for GH III Wii I hope it does well despite some setbacks. I want third party games to do well on the Wii.

And that website lists Mario as a playable character on the Wii version! O.O

I think its BS. Either its the best kept secret or its total bull because websites would've reported it by now.

It wouldn't surprise me, though. Mario's already been in Basketball and Winter sports games, so being in GH wouldn't be that shocking.

I don't see why downloadable content couldn't be released in the future on WiiWare. To date the only announcement regarding DLC in GH3 on the Wii has been "it won't have downloadable content initially."

And that's no guarantee it will appear, either.

To be fair, there only ended up being like two DL Packs on Live though, right?

It's pretty clear from that statement that they would like to release DLC for the Wii version.
