Boom Blox, Deca Sports, and Build-A-Bear Workshop earn recognition for education, creativity, and family play.

NAPPA has been highly regarded as the most thorough awards program for Parenting Resources and Children's Products. For eighteen years they have evaluated products to educate families on the safest, most educational, and enjoyable choices they can make for their families. This year NAPPA noted the increase of quality products that allow children to explore their performance and creative skills.

There was no shortage of Nintendo-based products on the awards list, with one DS and two Wii titles earning recognition for being family-oriented and intellectually stimulating.

Build-A-Bear Workshop for the DS was a 2008 honors winner described as a "virtual experience" where players "nurture their bear" and learn activities such as brushing teeth, food preparation, and dance education. A wonderful experience, NAPPA reported that the kid-testers "really, really liked this fun game".

Next up came Hudson Entertainment's Deca Sports, which won a gold award in the "Tweens and up" category. A combination of ten unique sports games such as, badminton, figure skating, and archery, all of which can be played multiplayer, leverages the "interactivity afforded by the Wii", encouraging interaction between the entire family.

Finally Steven Spielberg and Electronics Arts' creation, Boom Blox, was given the Gold Award and also named a Top Pick. Boom Blox was praised for its ability to intellectually challenge its player with a unique assortment of puzzles spanning more than 300 levels. With a variety of "funny characters" and "brain-twisting challenges" the young testers agreed that the game grabs your attention and keeps you playing. The level editor allows children to explore their creativity and share their designs online through Wii Connect 24. Overall, Boom Blox was described as an "awesome party game" that earned "total thumbs up" across the board.

Build-A-Bear Workshop? Man, this award isn't worth the paper it's printed on.
