A long-standing relationship brings new ideas to the market.

Nintendo has teamed up with the video game development school Digipen to open a studio in Singapore.

DigiPen Game Studios will start out working on smaller titles, with the aim to bring some titles to the eShop later this year. Some game funding will be provided by Singapore's Media Development Authority.

The possibility exists that the Singapore studio will create games for other consoles. Although Nintendo founded the original Digipen school in the building that houses Nintendo Software Technologies, some of Digipen's students ended up creating 2007's Portal for Valve and have gone on to work for Sony developer Sucker Punch.

All and all I hope that this leads to plenty of 3rd party games for Nintendo.
