Some of the puns near the end are ink-onceivable.

Nintendo has posted an Iwata Asks article for Splatoon ahead of the game's release.

Satoru Iwata sat down with five members of the Splatoon development team to discuss the game's development. The article mentions how the game's director Yusuke Amano designed the E3 reveal trailer from the ground up in order to ensure the vision came directly from the team, and the game originally played with the map on the TV and all action on the GamePad.

Perhaps to the shock of many, the team didn't notice the similarities with Super Mario Sunshine until late in development:

We only remembered it later on. Like, "Oh yeah, there was a water gun in Super Mario Sunshine." As Nintendo employees, that’s pretty embarrassing. (laughs) - Hisashi Nogami

The full six-part interview can be read here.

Reminder: you must read all 6 parts of the interview, played the test-fire, and watched the direct to be allowed to talk about splatoon without being ridiculed in the podcast discussion thread.

Knowing the details of Splatoon pre-release is serious business!

Okay, 3 things:

1)  I like how they provided the screenshot from the demo---  funny how the prototype they made sounds like at least 50 different indie games on steam right now.

2)  Could this be the first 1st/3rd person shooter to hit it big in Japan?  Cuz in today's testfire, like 6 out of 8 players in my matches were Japanese, all the time

3)  Did they really all pull an "ink" pun at the end?  What does that sound like in the original Japanese?
