Update: The download will be offered in pledge tiers.
Shovel Knight is confirmed to be digging its way to Wii U and 3DS.
The news comes from Yacht Club Games' Twitter account, which posted an image of the banners the studio is bringing to PAX East. The bottom of the banners display the logos for the Wii U, 3DS, and Steam (a digital distribution service for PC).
In light of this news, Yacht Club Games says to expect details on Wii U and 3DS Kickstarter reward tiers today. It's important to note that while previous Kickstarter titles like Cloudberry Kingdom were able to offer download codes for the Wii U eShop, others have been unable (as evidenced by The 90's Arcade Racer).
As of this writing, Shovel Knight sits at $26,336 funded of its $75,000 goal, with 26 days left to pledge.
UPDATE: Yacht Club Games has added Wii U and 3DS download copies of the game into the reward tiers of the Shovel Knight Kickstarter. Should Shovel Knight be funded, those who pledge $15 or more will be able to choose an eShop download code for the platform of their choosing.
Yacht Club Games has noted that the $10 pledge will only net backers a PC version of the game. The studio cites the need to pay for each download code provided by Nintendo as the reason behind the decision, but says features built for the Wii U GamePad and 3DS dual-screens play a role as well.
