Project Zero Haunting Wii Again

The scary spirit-snapping saga continues.

The updated remake of Project Zero: Crimson Butterfly (known as Fatal Frame in the USA), the second game in the ghostly photography series, has been reconfirmed for a release on Nintendo Wii.

The game, first announced early last year, will feature updated graphics and character models over its original PS2 and Xbox counterpart, as well as fluid aiming controls with the help of the Wii Remote.

In the original incarnation of the game, the story follows Mio and Mayu, two twin sisters who find themselves drawn to a derelict old village in the woods. When Mayu goes missing, it's up to her sister to search the abandoned hallways and alleys, fighting off vengeful spirits with a ghost-busting camera that wounds the paranormal when pictures are snapped. Players slowly piece together the grisly story of the village's dark history and uncover plenty of horrific secrets that perhaps were better left unknown.

The game is set to launch in Japan on June 28 this year for a retail price of 6,800 yen ($85), with a release in Europe under the name Project Zero 2: Wii Edition coming at a yet unknown date. We'll have more details as they surface.

I always want to like games like this, but, the Resident Evil franchise is really my threshold of spookiness.

Wuss gamers unite!!

I hope the game includes the Xbox-exclusive ending, which is not only by far my favorite Fatal Frame 2 ending, but also it's the only frickin' happy ending (and even then one of the girls pays a steep price iirc) in the entire game!.  It would be nice if this game made it to NA, but I highly doubt it considering just how much it's taken NoA to allow 2 of the 3 Rainfall games to make it here.

Considering NOA is allowing third parties to publish games in North America again I'd imagine this game has a great chance of coming here.  Fatal Frame is a series that is already known in the U.S and has a good sized niche fanbase.  So if NOA doesn't release it then I can guarantee you they'll allow either Atlus or Xseed to do it, since this is the kind of game both publishers would love to get a hold of.

And before anyone mentions Fatal Frame 4, that was Iwata laying the smackdown on Tecmo for refusing to fix all the bugs and glitches for an international release, so nobody was allowed to publish that game outside of Japan.

Jumping the gun a little bit with that guarantee?  It might come out here, it might not.  With Wii U on the horizon, no sales data from Xenoblade and The Last Story, and a very niche appeal here in North America to begin with, there is no way this release is certain.

(It is definitely possible.  Just not at all certain.  I do certainly hope it will come out here and gets announced in a reasonable time frame... otherwise it's another import for me.)
