Ada Wong, dynamic camera work, and lots of zombies highlight the newest game footage for Capcom's upcoming Resident Evil rail shooter.

Capcom believes that The Darkside Chronicles will feature the best graphics on Wii yet and if the newest trailer from Captivate 2009 is to be believed then they might be right in their belief. The trailer showcases dramatic camera movements, and very detailed characters and environments. This is also the first footage of Ada Wong and Sherry Birkin in Darkside Chronicles since their appearance was confirmed by Famitsu weeks ago.

Pro trying to take away hits from Youtube is a bannable offense.

This trailer's been floating around for a while now, but it is a very well-done trailer.  My big sticking point is the "Shaky Cam" when the characters are moving.  I thought Umbrella Chronicles struck a nice balance between being smooth enough so general gameplay wasn't made even more frustrating and being realistic per the action on-screen.  If this trailer is any indication, it looks like they're overdoing it a bit with the Shaky Cam, which might be severe enough to make even me dizzy trying to follow it.  And I can't imagine shooting at targets while that's going on.

That Blair Witch camera style is cool when done right, but I hate it when it's over done, because it makes things so hard to see.

Instead of a forced shaky cam, a hyper-sensite IR aiming cam would be better to implement, since it's tied to your own general movement.

Or maybe just a button to tell the character to hold still and let you shoot? There's a reason people usually don't shoot while running.

And maybe "hold still" and still have some shakes while the person is stationary, cuz they're scared and pumped with adrenaline?

Hold still?  WAIT, that sounds like KILLER7, I don't think we're allowed to talk about this.

Implementing "free look" for a rail shooter could be something explored in future games; as far as I'm concerned, the handheld-camera effect works fine for what this game seems to convey.

I think including movement control in a rail shooter, outside of taking cover, removes it from the rail shooter category. You may as well play an FPS where you can move and shoot at the same OH WAIT

no no no, i think your onto something there. if first person doesn't quite suit the game play they could pull the camera back into something over the shoulder. would be a new direction for the series.

You guys are on to something.

EasyCureMay 06, 2009

you guys will never be developers if you keep trying to innovate like that!

That and pulling back into cover. Also I think they were onto something with Dino Crisis so let's have the characters shoot dinosaurs.. Hm, needs more uses for cover... Dinosaurs with guns? Since they already beefed Chris Redfield up so much for RE5 how about adding some power armor and regenerating health? Oh and advertise it with the song "Mad World", that's gonna be awesome!

Or maybe they could fix the shaky cam by taking the game off of rails?
