Codemasters Responds to Bubble Bobble Revolution Bug Reports

Faulty game cards mean 70% of the levels are unreachable.

North American players of Bubble Bobble Revolution found a nasty surprise when playing through New Version mode of the game. Upon reaching level 30, the boss never appears, making the level unclearable. With no way around this unfortunate glitch, the remaining 70 levels cannot be accessed.

Codemasters customer support has confirmed the problem and issued the following statement:

We have been looking very hard into this issue with Nintendo and have now determined that all of the cartridges that have been shipped in North America are faulty. Needless to say we are extremely sorry that this situation has arisen and would like to apologise to you for this issue.

We have already started the process whereby a corrected version is to be manufactured and will ensure that all customers have their copies replaced. Unfortunately this will take 8-10 weeks (simply because of the time required to manufacture new carts). We will update you with what you will need to do to get a replacement game, as soon as this has been determined.

Those considering purchasing the game will probably want to wait until the fixed version is released. The problem does not affect game cards from other regions.

Was the game just released in NA or what? If that error has persisted since the thing first hit shelves in Europe or even Japan that response would be awfully slow.

It was released in the US on the 3rd and the earliest response I can find is from the 11th. The bug is only found in the US version.

so the 10 people who bought it have to return it?

CericOctober 17, 2006

I have it rented... I like the original... I don't like the new one on it though...

Wow, that's worse then EA's quality assurance.

It's pretty hilarious. The game comes out in PAL regions months ago, and somehow during those months of locallizing a region free game, they break 70% of the levels and no one notices it.

Woo! A new record!

Could be worse, NBA 2k3 on Gamecube would freeze almost every time u played it. It was a known bug and they didn't fix it. Even worse the game was $50, unlike NBA 2k5 that released at $20.

Oh and then there is NBA Live 03-07 that suffer from all the same problems but EA doesn't seem to care one bit.

You would think that SOMEONE would have caught this. Like they would have had one, single tester run through the entire game with a retail version. As a person that works in software QA, something like this is unforgiveable.

This had better have been introduced in manufacturing, otherwise this makes me cringe. This is going to cost Codemasters a LOT of money.

Well they say the glitch was caused by a faulty production of cartridges so maybe this was something a playtester couldn't have caught and was more on the production side of things.

Remind me of WWF No Mercy on the N64. A bug meant that no custom-wrestlers could be saved. They offered to replace the cart to fix the problem... so I sent them the cart and got a replacement.

They not only fixed the bug, but they removed the blood from the game.

I'd rather have just kept the game with blood. If they'd told me they wanted to remove the blood... bah.

You think they'll do the same with Bubble Bobble? :P Remove the blood??

Hmm I don't remember that bug, all I remember is how much I loved that game and how no other wrestling game has came close to the WWF/WCW (well except for that dumb Nitro one) games on N64.

I think maybe it was only in the PAL release.

OH I REMEMBER the bug alright. Had nothing to do with PAL. And I never got my game replaced either. Everytime I attempted to go through story mode with any CAWs, the game would totally wipe out everyone, and mid-story mode you'd have a default looking character. Not a total dealbreaker for me since I never played with any of the regular characters and therefore the unlockables meant nothing to me, but not being able to play story mode with my characters hurt....

Hey at least it'll be an extremely easy way for them to bail out on Nintendo once again!

"LACK OF SALES!"

But yeah this is pretty hilarious. I've had the Euro version since last year, got to the very last world only to discover you need to go back and collect keys, rolled eyes. You're not really missing much, the only reason to own the game is for the emulated original version. =)
