SEGA SHIPS SONIC RIDERS TO NORTH AMERICAN RETAILERS

Sonic Masters Air Board Riding in Pursuit of Racing Glory on the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Nintendo GameCube

SAN FRANCISCO (February 21, 2006) -- SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced the release of Sonic Riders for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, Xbox® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and Nintendo GameCube™. In Sonic’s debut performance as an air board racer, Sonic Riders takes gamers on an electrifying ride on air boards at break-neck speeds through a wide variety of tracks. Catching massive air and pulling off insane aerial tricks will power up players against their opponents in a race to the finish line.

In Sonic Riders, Sonic and his friends are on a mission to foil the evil Dr. Eggman and his new henchmen the Babylon Rouges. Dr.Eggman has created the Ex World Grand Prix; a no-holds barred racing series where the fastest “riders" in the world pay one Chaos Emerald to participate in this tournament. Never one to turn down a challenge to prove his speed, Sonic and his friends join the tournament and uncover what Dr. Eggman’s true intentions are. In Sonic Riders, players race on air boards through amazingly detailed and challenging courses. The tracks are innovatively designed; filled with gold rings and power-ups to collect; jump-ramps for high-flying acrobatic tricks; and long rails for grinding action. Riders will also ride “Turbulence" – waves generated from other riders – to boost their own speed. “Turbulence" can also be used as a moving half-pipe so riders can perform aerial tricks while racing past fellow competitors.

“Sonic Riders is adding a new dimension to racing games," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. “The blending of the action-racing genre and the Sonic franchise has created a racing game that both hardcore Sonic fans and entire families are sure to enjoy."

Sonic Riders features multiple game modes including a unique story mode and both cooperative and competitive split-screen multiplayer modes for up to four riders. The game also features numerous equipment upgrades, bonus unlockables from the SEGA universe, and the introduction of the innovative “Turbulence" gameplay mechanic. Fans will also enjoy playing as several other Sonic universe characters, including Knuckles, Tails, the evil Dr. Eggman and the all-new Babylon Rouges: Jet, Storm, and Wave.

Because air boards were required for Sonic to travel at high speeds!

Yeah, I agree the hoverboard concept is a bit flawed with the Sonic franchise, but what I played was fun, and that's more important.

I have to know, where did you find the drawing of Krystal you have as your icon?

KDR_11kFebruary 22, 2006

It's furry porn, you just don't want to know.

vuduFebruary 22, 2006

Better question, what the heck is she licking?

Shin GallonFebruary 22, 2006

I realize that, why do you think I asked where he found it?

Shin GallonFebruary 22, 2006

Anyway, getting back on topic, anyone know if Riders has a Japanese voices option? I don't want to have to import this one like I did Heroes and Shadow...

couchmonkeyFebruary 22, 2006

Ha ha ha. Thread of the day!
Sonic Furry Porn is the key to Sega's future.

P.S., it sounds like this game is actually pretty good. Sure it's illogical, but so is pretty much everything about the Mario series. I'm interested.

Shin GallonFebruary 23, 2006

Uh...huh. Yeah, I've been in the fandom for over a decade now. No, I'm not a freak, no I don't molest animals, no, I don't wear costumes or think I'm really an animal spirit trapped in a human body. If this is going to degenerate into "Make fun of Gallon because he likes anthro art", then I'll just be leaving now. Thank you.

Naah, we've got an entire Monkey and Bill to make fun of before we reach you face-icon-small-tongue.gif.

TMWFebruary 23, 2006

So...yeah. I am so confused about this game. Its actually good?

Like...better than Sonic Adventure good? Interesting concept executed well good?

Cause...Good and Sonic Team just don't seem to go together anymore.

Sonic Rush is crying..

BloodworthDaniel Bloodworth, Staff AlumnusFebruary 23, 2006

Sonic Rush is made by DIMPS LOL

IceColdFebruary 23, 2006

Wow! I really thought the Sonic Team made it.. shame on me for believing they can make anything of worth these days.

EDIT: I just looked it up, and even all the Sonic Advance games were made by Dimps.. how the hell could I have been under such a false impression all this time?

CREATED BY SONIC TEAM. Yeah, if by created you mean funded.

MarioFebruary 23, 2006

Yuji Naka came in and told them to add Gumbazzo the Giraffe Tank missions, but Dimps just nodded their heads and guided him out of the room.

Infernal MonkeyFebruary 23, 2006

Yuji slaps the Sonic Team logo on everything, even as the developer for Sega Classics Collection, which is typical Yuji logic as the game is rubbish and they had nothing to do with it for a change.

"WE'LL TAKE ALL CREDIT ANYWAY"
"But sir"
"HAHA NEW SONIC GAME TIME"
"Oh God what now"
"THEME PARK SIMULATOR, THAT HASN'T BEEN DONE BEFORE"
"Actually it has"
"BUT WITH SONIC?"
"Uh, no"
*Yuji Naka rubs his hands together and licks his lips*

Actually if UGA (formally AM9) made any of the games in that collection, the Sonic Team stamp would be sort of justified.

These days Sega is just a fancy publishing system for Treasure games.
