What happens when the only thing we can agree on is that there were a lot of good games last year?
Handing out yearly game awards isn't a perfect system. The biggest problem with a typical awards system is that we can only heap praise on a few games. A lot of opinions are left out, and with our diverse staff spread across the world we simply can't claim to play every game on the Wii or DS.
This year, instead of asking our staff to pick, say, the DSiWare game with the best sound, we simplified the process. Our staff was presented with one simple question: "What were your favorite Wii, DS, and downloadable games of 2009?" Everybody sent in their write-ups, we compiled a master list of games, and then organized the submissions.
Since we're spreading the love, we're calling this "2009: The Games We Loved". We think you'll love some of them too!
