Project Café Controller Features Cut-Out Guide

by James Charlton - June 3, 2011, 12:34 am EDT
Total comments: 40

Place your bets now on what features the controller will have using this handy cut-out-and-keep guide!

If you weren't already excited about the Nintendo press conference, I thought I'd help you out by adding a little fun competition to the proceedings!

Below, I've made a printable cut-out-and-keep checklist of all the features the controller might have, also leaving three spaces to add your own ideas.

Before June 7th, post your answers in the talkback thread below, after the conference I'll confirm the correct answers with the other NWR staff members and check back and see who got the most correct answers. (15 being the maximum)

In the event of a tie we will select a winner by random. The prize will bragging rights on the forum for sometime, but I'll also throw in a nice little Nintendo Gachpon toy from my collection!

Any posts marked as being edited will be discounted, so make sure it's your final answer before hitting the post button! (one entry per person)

Good luck, see you back here after the megatons have hit!

@UltraClayton
Could you make a new post with just your answer for the number of triggers (don't modify your original post).
My bad, I should have clarified I wanted a number not a Y/N. (now fixed)
Cheers!

Just to clarify, I believe there will be a standard Wii-style remote (up to four), as well as a separate auxiliary control device. Unless stated otherwise, these predictions are for the standard controller.

Face buttons: 11
D-pad: Y
Dual analog sticks: N-- just one on the remote itself, a second may be add via a nunchuk attachment
Rumble: Y
Screen: N
Camera: Y-- for tracking, not for taking pictures
Speaker: Y
Triggers: 2-- two more may be add via a nunchuk attachment
I.R: N-- will be replaced by camera tracking
Microphone: N
Rechargeable battery: Y
Motion sensors: Y
My idea: will also feature an auxiliary control device with 6" touch screen as well as its own buttons and dual analog sticks/sliders
My idea: auxiliary device will allow for the option of wirelessly diverting the content to its screen, to free up the TV and/or allowing portable playability around the house (within wireless range of the console)
My idea: auxiliary device will have varying functions-- being able to function as a secondary input method (such as a keyboard, or writing tablet), or as a DS-styled secondary view screen

I just wanted to point out that i think it will have a controller dock/charge stand to hold the controller upright so you can view the screen while not holding the controller.

Holy crap! Assuming this is right, I'm eerily dead on so far.  :Q This article more or less describes my idea of the auxiliary controller exactly... It's a damn shame that part is only going to be worth three points for me. Let's just hope I got the remote prediction right... that's where all the points are.

If that's the case I hope that (3)DS(i) hook up for additional controllers is supported because that controller ain't gonna be cheap.

BlkPaladinJune 03, 2011

Face buttons: (numerical answer) 7 (4 action buttons, +, - , home)
D-pad: Yes
Dual analogue sticks: Yes
Rumble: Yes
Screen: Yes
Camera: Yes
Speaker: Yes - to maintain backward compatibility with the Wii games that actually used it, and so it can be used as a gaming device.
Triggers: (numerical answer) 2 at the end of each rumored handles
I.R: No, it will use the camera in place of the IR/sensor the Wii used.
Microphone: Yes
Rechargeable battery: Yes - Kind of cheating with the article that was just recently put up.
Motion sensors: Yes - again with the backward compatibility

My idea: It will be able to used as a portable game-player, like a souped up DC VMU. (It will have the DS chipset reduced similarly to the way the GBA chipset was reduced on the DS/DS Lites. This will also help run the touchscreen)

My idea: The system will support 3DS/DSi connectivity easily because of the last idea.

My idea: The controller will cost at most $80US. (This is based off of an estimate that one manufacture made when the first rumors of the controller came to light.)

LOL!

Looks like you guys are really getting serious with this competition! :-)

There is some strategy involved now...should you wait a couple more days to see if there are any more leaks/confirmations or go ahead and make your predictions now.
Leave it too long however and it could be too late!

That's exactly what I thought too! I figured it would be like the Atari Jaguar's cut-outs that came with some games, since the controller had so many buttons.

Anyways, here are my guesses. I'm going to assume this is just for the main controller, and not including any kind of attachment like the Nunchuk.

Face buttons: 5 (A, B, +, -, Home. I don't count the power button)
D-pad: Y
Dual analogue sticks: N (just one, methinks)
Rumble: N (it'll wreck the screen)
Screen: Y
Camera: Y
Speaker: Y
Triggers: 2(Z, C)
I.R: Y
Microphone: N
Rechargeable battery: Y
Motion sensors: N (this'll be an attachment)
Your idea: A connector for attachments, something like the Wiimote or maybe even the Wiimote itself.
Your idea: A stylus and holder.
Your idea: It can still use AA batteries if desired.

BlackNMild2k1June 03, 2011

There was a prize? I thought it was just for fun.

When I first checked this thread there wasn't even a competition, it was just a cut out controller card.

Considering I cut and pasted your response, pretty well.

CericJune 07, 2011

To win I need Haptics, Vitality, and Temperature to suddenly manifest itself.
I want that Toy.  I need something to replace my Pooh in a Hamster suit Lanyard I used on my DS Phat for my 3DS.

TheFleeceJune 07, 2011

I didn't count for a Power button, Selet button and Dual Analogs (Face Palm). I slept on Trigger buttons too. Oh well, at least the actual product turned out better than I thought it would.

Mop it upJune 07, 2011

I got 7/15. The first and third of my ideas could still happen since they might be revealed later, but that wouldn't help much.

D-pad: (Yes)
Dual analogue sticks: (Yes)

My idea: Sensor Strip, interacts with Wii Remote
My idea: Stylus & holder
My idea: Infra Red Receiver (unknown use, possible data transfer)
My idea: Headphone Jack
My idea: Connector Port (unknown use, however not for Wii accessories)

I guess that's 17 possible points!

Unknown as of June 2011:
*No I.R  (i.e for a pointer) but an I.R receiver like the 3DS.
*Internal memory is a possibility, as the Wii had a tiny amount for Mii storage.
*The controller may or may not have a dock or charge stand.

Results:
The Unagi = 0 ;-P
Crimm = 1
RABicle = 5
Taffypool = 6
Bman87301 = 6

UncleBobRichard Cook, Guest ContributorJune 10, 2011

I would argue that I had 10 points.  "My idea: Multiple configurations/expansions" - between the expansion port on the bottom of the controller and the different options (Stylus, alone, with Wii Remotes, with Balance Board, etc.), I'm thinking I should have gotten this point.

But it doesn't matter, since I can't prove it has internal memory yet.  Even though we know it will, since the Wii Remotes now have internal memory... :D

BlackNMild2k1June 10, 2011

Also the remote has a Sensor Strip that i assume is an IR strip (like the sensor bar) that I also assume interacts with the Wiimote like the Golf demo showed. That is what I assumed you meant by IR in the original post.

that should give me a 12th point.
Not sure if that makes a difference though.

edit: I also realize that headphone jack should have been one of my extras as it was something that I mentioned it should have in a different thread. Too late for that now though.

edit2: Looking at your update it seems like you meant an IR Camera for pointer precision like a wiimote though.

Either:
A) Because you said 'no' to everything and that was correct, once.
