A new system menu update has launched for the Wii U.
The most noticeable change in the update is the removal of the TVii icon following the service's discontinuation last week, according to the update's patch notes, though the usual "improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience".

A chance to create new squidkids is coming this weekend
The Splatoon Testfire will be returning for another round of turf wars this weekend in North America and this coming week for Europe.
North America will have three sessions for the Testfire, from August 21 to 23 (Friday to Sunday). Each session will be two hours from 3 - 5 p.m. Pacific time (6 - 8 p.m. ET). Europe's sessions are as follows:

Atlus bringing it once again with their physical releases.
Atlus has prepared another launch edition for a 3DS game, this time for The Legend of Legacy.
Launch editions of the game will include a hardcover 40 page artbook and a 10-track sampler CD, plus a protective case that will make the box measure 6" x 8". This edition will be available for preorders as well as a supply at the game's launch.

The only recorded case of someone not getting splatted by the Rainmaker happened at SplatKingdom IX.
Tomorrow night's Splatoon update, the first since 2.0, will add the Rainmaker mode to the ranked battles.
The objective is similar to Tower Control, in that the teams are trying to bring an object to the team's goal, but the titular Rainmaker allows the person holding it to fire Inkzooka shots.... Read more...

Sadly, we don't get the U.S. Acres DLC this week.
Despite 3D Gunstar Heroes being delayed a week, and Freedom Planet being delayed due to a hard lock bug in the final build for retail Wii Us, there's still a decent amount of new content for the stores this week. The headliners are the second week of Nintendo's "games for hardcore gamers in August" Virtual Console program with Pandora's Tower, and the first game published by Unity in the form of Wind-Up Knight 2.

The last of the Rainfall trio has a few firsts associated with it
Nintendo's game listing has updated to announce tomorrow's Virtual Console release will be Pandora's Tower.
The late-era Wii game, the last of the three major Operation Rainfall games, originally came out in North America in April of 2013. The game will launch on Wii U with tomorrow's eShop update at $19.99 US or $24.99 Canadian.

Both pushed back to fix bugs.
A couple of Wii U titles and a 3DS game have been delayed in order to resolve nagging issues.
Freedom Planet, which was originally slated to come out this week, has been delayed to resolve an issue that caused system hard locks on retail Wii Us. GalaxyTrail is hoping for a quick patch before a new release date is announced, though the forum post lists August 20.

We have a release date and price for Runbow straight from 13AM Games.
The nine-player runner with the all-star casts of Nintendo indie characters will launch on the eShop in North America August 27 (three weeks from Thursday). The game will launch at $14.99, with a 15% discount ($2.25 off) if the Nindie @ Home demo was downloaded during E3 week.

The latest issue of CoroCoro magazine has announced Level 5's first Wii U title and the newest game in the ungodly popular Yokai Watch series for Japan in association with Ubisoft.
Yokai Watch Dance: Just Dance Special Edition features the characters dancing to the music from Yokai Watch. No pricing or release date has been announced for the title in Japan, and its odds of localization are infinitesimal at best.

Sheer love of marshmallows prevents hot dogs from mustarding victory.
Results from this weekend's Splatfest action, the first to be held under the new Splatfest weighting rules from the version 2 update:
Marshmallows 256, Hot Dogs 244 At Camp Triggerfish, the campfire duel was settled early as the Marshmallow side took a 64-36 win in the popularity poll. Team Hot Dog fought valiantly, as the Marshmallow side was run to exhaustion by a succession of civil turf wars, but the comeback fell 2% short at 52-48.

A recent interview with a Nintendo Treehouse localization writer has shed more light on what goes into a game localization.
