Smash Bros. University Debate Team: Episode 1 - Getting Sick, Signing Checks, and Drowning in Digital Garbage

James might want to talk Kickstarter etiquette, but let's see if he can concentrate when Jon subjects him to the infamous Gust Bellows.

Jon and James do more than record thousands of hours of Nintendo-focused podcasts and create the slow-moving tragedy known as Now Playing. If you've seen the NWR Smash Bros. tournament you understand their shared skill at turning Smash Bros. into an unholy mess. And, while the two of them enjoy meandering conversations about business and industry trends, they often find their conversations stymied by their RFN peers.

In an effort to unify their two interests, we introduce Smash Bros. University Debate Team!

The idea is simple: four rounds of Smash + industry talk. Jon and James are each responsible for coming up with two topics, but the real challenge is the two stage configurations each are responsible for orchestrating with the singular objective to disrupt the others' topics.

James might want to talk Kickstarter etiquette, but let's see if he can concentrate when Jon subjects him to the infamous Gust Bellows.

Topics covered: Nintendo acquisition targets, Kickstarting retro games, Virtual Reality, and the eShop garbage.

Let us know what you think, and maybe there will be an episode 2.

Anyone still in doubt about backing the Bloodstained and/or Yooka-Laylee kickstarter; please do! With only days left there are still very cool stretch goals like a 3DS port and free DLC for everybody.

I think it would be better if there were some stakes in the matches, forcing both James and Lindy to concentrate on winning.  But there should also be some stakes in the debate too.

Hm. . .
