WORLD RENOWNED RECORDING GROUP AEROSMITH ROCKS THIS WAY TO GUITAR HERO®: AEROSMITH®

Epic Collaboration Creates First Music-Based Game to Feature One Band

Free Download of “Dream On” Offered to Commemorate Alliance

Santa Monica, CA – February 15, 2008 – Fire up the fret board, crank the amp to 11 and get ready to rock this way with Activision, Inc.’s (Nasdaq: ATVI) Guitar Hero®: Aerosmith®, the first game built around the legendary music of America’s Greatest Rock ‘N Roll Band: Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton and Joey Kramer. Slated for release this June, this latest installment from the franchise with the #1 best-selling video game in 2007, puts players in the shoes of Perry (guitar), Whitford (guitar) and Hamilton (bass), as they rock out alongside frontman Tyler and drummer Kramer. Gamers will experience Aerosmith’s GRAMMY® winning career, from their first gig to becoming rock royalty, in a way that no other entertainment vehicle offers.

To celebrate this historic, ground-breaking collaboration, Guitar Hero® III: Legends of Rock fans will have the opportunity to download and jam to Aerosmith’s “Dream On.” The song will be available for free from February 16-18 on Xbox LIVE® Marketplace for Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION®Store for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. For more information, please visit www.guitarhero.com.

“Having a game built around Aerosmith has been a huge honor and really a great experience for us,” says Joe Perry. “We’ve put a lot of ideas into the game so that fans can have fun interacting with our music, getting inside our body of work and learning about the band’s history.”

Steven Tyler says, “Any band that can go from ‘Don’t Want to Miss A Thing’ (Aerosmith’s #1 smash hit) to the ass-kicking ‘Sweet Emotion’ to the cheekiness of ‘Love in an Elevator,’ to the classic ballad ‘Dream On’ shows why Activision chose us to headline this game based on the diversity of the Aerosmith catalog. Not only is songwriting a bitch, but then it goes and has puppies.”

Perry adds, “On a larger scale, it’s cool for us to be pioneers helping to rebuild the music industry through a format like video games. It’s great for rock since the record companies are struggling to make sense of how things are changing. Fans want to get and experience music in new formats--and there are going to be some of them who will play the game, then pick up the guitar for real and start bands. It’s what’s happening now, and it’s only going to build more momentum in the future. It’s a massive change for the music business.”

“We are extremely excited that Aerosmith chose to team up with Guitar Hero, bringing one of the world’s all-time best-selling artists together with one of the biggest video game brands, to deliver a new and unique interactive way for our customers to connect with artists and their music,” said Dusty Welch, head of publishing for Activision/RedOctane. “This partnership will give Aerosmith, a band that has sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, a powerful and innovative platform to reach their fans and new audiences.”

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith brings these quintessential rock legends to the interactive realm to create the ultimate gaming experience. As fans progress through their careers in the game, they can rock out to scores of Aerosmith’s greatest hits, as well as songs from celebrated artists that the band has either performed with or has been inspired by in some way. Venues from historical moments during the band’s illustrious career offer the experience of “sweet emotion” and further capture the essence of the band’s rise to fame.

Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is being developed by Neversoft Entertainment for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. The Wii™ version is being developed by Vicarious Visions. The PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system version is being developed by Budcat. The game is not yet rated by the ESRB.

Looks like downloadable Wii songs have been cancelled.

thatguy February 16, 2008

Activision presents: Bad Wii Ports that are still fun to play!  Now more monaural than ever!

Yeah, I'll be buying it.  I hate that, too, after the shaft we got with Guitar Hero 3.

For those who don't like reading press releases, here's a summary:

Aerosmith? DEAR GOD NO

IceCold February 16, 2008

How can they make a whole game about Aerosmith only? Isn't one of the draws of Guitar Hero that you get so many different bands, music styles etc?

Having said that, Dream On is one of my favourite songs ever.

Huzzahs are in order!

thatguy February 16, 2008

The game has Aerosmith and bands that toured with Aerosmith.  So there's multiple bands, though I actually like Aerosmith.

Brandogg February 16, 2008

Can't wait. Oh wait, yest I can. Aerosmith has some great songs, don't get me wrong, but they also have a ton of crappy songs, and I can't imaging even a hardcore fan playing this game for too long.

KDR_11k February 16, 2008

Thanks but I think I'll join NON instead.

vudu February 16, 2008

Who the Hell wants to play nothing but Aerosmith songs?  I can see maybe doing something like this for Rolling Stones or Led Zepplin, but Aerosmith?  Ug.

I think my problem is I'm too young for Aerosmith and my parents are too old for them.  They're completely irrelevant to my musical world.

This is probably a rental for me unless the supporting bands are totally awesome.  The only Aerosmith song I really care about is "Dream On".  If they leave it out of the new game because it was DLC for GH3 on other systems, that will be a huge slap in the face to Wii and PS2 owners.

LuigiHann February 17, 2008

Is it a good sign that the Wii version is being developed by a different company than the PS2 version? At least they aren't lumping them together.

Brandogg February 18, 2008

Yeah, I'll just get Dream On, for Xbox 360 GH3, and call it a day. Oh, and that press release shows how Aerosmith thinks they're the greatest band ever.

VV did the regular Wii version of GH3 too.

NinGurl69 *huggles February 18, 2008

Where's my Marilyn Manson edition and Weezer edition?

UltimatePartyBear February 18, 2008

Ever since I first picked up Guitar Hero, I've thought it would be cool to have versions dedicated to certain bands (or at least genres so I don't have to play as much stuff I don't really like).  It's no surprise that Aerosmith is the first one up, in my opinion.  I just hope it sells well enough for Activision to bankroll more.

Yeah, and a bang-up job they did of that too.

It was their open challenge to Ubi Shanghai.

That is a weird combination.

KDR_11k February 19, 2008

No weirder than Limozeen and Sloshy.

Morari February 19, 2008

Can I just say LAME? Never mind that Aerosmith's career has been nothing but flaky, and even complete garbage for years now. The truth is that any band-specific installment would become stale quickly, regardless of the genre. Furthermore, I really don't think that Activision needs to be putting out an endless stream of sequels and expansion packs. Guitar Hero III has friggin' download capabilities. I don't want to have to swap discs in and out just to play the one or two songs that I'm in the mood for, I want them all in one place. The downloadable songs give you this ability. Acitivision has already shown just what they think of that through their pitiful release of downloadable content so far. Not to mention that the Wii doesn't even have this feature, they've only just this week gotten around to replacing discs that suffer from mono-only sound, and they still don't have separate guitar controllers out on the market (which will be completely overpriced at that)!

I can't wait for Rock Band to hit the Wii. Maybe that'll smack some sense into the incompetents at Activision.

mudjah February 19, 2008

Where's my "Bass Hero - Primus Edition"?

Thant would be totally sweet playing "Jerry was a race car driver" til' my thumb went all blue and swollen.

NinGurl69 *huggles February 19, 2008

GHIII Wii download capabilities are non-existant.

Hell, stereo sound is non-existant.

I just sent my disc in Friday. I'm getting a stereo-enabled disc in return. I've been signed up to receive the envelope for quite a while now however. That said, I don't expect to ever see download capabilities hit the Wii with Guitar Hero III. Though that doesn't change the fact that endless sequels are a pointless method of longevity and distribution. Maybe that's just what I get for having the roots of a PC gamer though, where companies actually continue to support their product after release, sometimes for years to come and always for free.

Coming soon: Guitar Hero: Hannah Montana edition or Guitar Hero: High School Musical edition...

Admit it, with the way Activision is handling the Guitar Hero franchise sooner or later we will be getting stupid editions like the ones above.

UltimatePartyBear February 21, 2008

Sure, there's a possibility of stupid editions, but there's also the possibility of good ones.  If we aren't going to get downloadable content for the Wii version (which remains to be seen), then I'm not about to turn up my nose at alternative (read: traditional) means of distribution of new content.

darknight06 February 26, 2008

Vicarious Visions in actually didn't do a whole heck of a lot with GH3 for Wii, all they really did was take Budcat's base PS2 work, add 16/9 and a couple of graphics effects, take out stereo, and add online Wifi matchups to it.  Maybe GH3.1 will actually come with PLII this time around.  Eh, doesn't really matter all that much to me anyway, I'm not buying it.  I still like the Harmonix made games better, they had less of a budget but they didn't feel so thrown together.

NinGurl69 *huggles February 26, 2008

"take out stereo"

ahahahhahah so it was on purpose.  talk about industry sabotage.
