We're looking for a few good staffers. Do you think you have what it takes to work with the best? Inquire within!

The hiring period has expired. Applications are no longer being accepted. Thanks to everyone who applied, and good luck!

Nintendo World Report wants you! We're looking for some fresh talent to take NWR to the next level in the video game news and

information world, and we know there are a lot of people out there who are motivated enough to help make it happen. Are you one

of them?

Working at NWR requires the same effort and dedication that previous and current staffers have had to bring the site to where it

is today. Serious dedication is a prerequisite, as is a good amount of free time. For all positions, it is important to know that

all staff of Nintendo World Report work on a non-paid, volunteer basis only. It's hard work, but we do it because we love

it, and because there are hundreds of thousands of people who rely on us for their every Nintendo need!

Interested parties should carefully read the listings below and follow the instructions to apply. Serious applicants only,

please. The last day to submit an application is now Friday, June 1.

Open positions:

Staff Writer

Japan Correspondent

Australia Correspondent

Staff Writer

NWR Staff Writers make up the heart of site. They are collectively responsible for creating the bulk of NWR content, including

news stories, preview coverage, hands-on impressions, game reviews, and site features assigned by section editors. Staff writers

also update game profiles with screen shots and current release information for multiple regions. The regular

workload for a Staff Writer is approximately one major article, a handful of news stories, and various site maintenance duties per

week, although that number can vary depending on game and event coverage. All work is expected to be completed in a timely

manner. Prior writing experience is preferred, but not necessary.

Persons interested in the Staff Writer position must:

- Be knowledgeable of Nintendo and Nintendo games

- Read and write fluently in the English language

- Possess strong writing skills and enthusiasm to improve them

- Write critically and accept criticism and suggestions from NWR editors

- Bring creativity and fresh ideas to the site

- Be a trustworthy individual who can complete tasks without constant supervision

- Communicate well with others and attend online meetings whenever possible

Although not necessary for application, the following would be very helpful:

- Live in the greater Los Angeles or San Francisco areas

- Be knowledgeable of all current video games, regardless of platform

- Be knowledgeable of classic video games and game history

- Be able to edit audio and video files

Applicants based anywhere in the United States or Canada may apply, but priority will be given to candidates in the Los Angeles

Thanks for applying, and good luck!

Talkback

that Baby guyMay 09, 2007

Well, I know I'm not going for this one. I can bet who is, though.
Kushrenada, it looks like you got your answers.

Good luck, applicants!

And you need a Nintendo Pessimist position made exclusively for Ian.

Smash_BrotherMay 09, 2007

I'd consider it, I REALLY would, but I'm already working two full-time jobs.

I would but I would only be able to review and report news.

If they need that, I'm sure I could fill it also.

Well, I'll give it a shot. I'm not sure I'll get it because of the preferred locale. Also, I have to be knowledgeable about Nintendo. And, I just learned last week that they make video games so I have a lot of cramming to do. And then there is the nonpay thing. I still think I'll be the first to crack this barrier. Once I get elected, the first bill I'm putting forward to the Senate is a pay increase for all staff (mainly me) and an extra 30 weeks vacation. Can't wait.

But hopefully with everyone fully supporting my campaign, I can overcome the barriers, get hired and allow myself to achieve my full potential on this site. That being when I'm cited as the moment when the site jumped the shark. Alright. All aboard the Khushrenada train to victory.

By the way, my suggestion for the Japanese correspondant would be S-U-P-E-R. He seems like such a nice young man and he even lives in Japan. It would be so nice to see him hired by NWR also.

If there was an official pessimist position, I could do in a pinch! I have worked long and hard at replicating the intricate inner workings of the minds of internet Sony and MS fanbois, and would be in the perfect position to direct those simulations upon poor, hapless, clueless, insipid Nintendo fanbois... I'm sorry, what were we talking about again?

Kairon would support me for the staff position, I just know it! Now to get Pap, Evan, and Smash on board face-icon-small-smile.gif.

Ty is coming back to America in a few weeks, as is Ryan W., and Josh too. That's why we need a new Japan person.

We can't hire Ian as Nintendo Pessimist because he doesn't even own a Wii. That's kind of an unspoken requirement.

You and your fancy lawyer jargon, Johnny!

One day I shall have my revenge...

I always lose out on the loopholes.

UncleBobRichard Cook, Guest ContributorMay 09, 2007

If NWR will pay for my expenses, I'll move to Japan.

Also, if Super is coming back, does that mean my GameBoy Light is coming soon as well? face-icon-small-smile.gif

I've got two questions:
1) Isn't it policy to post Press Releases as is and let the reader decide how to take it? Thus making the first submission just a writing excercise?
2) Would it be ok if I did a Hardware Review instead? The only reason I ask is I've been meaning to do a Reader Review of the Psyclone Wii stand for a while and I even have pictures.

Also what format would be preferred for the submissions? I know many of the staff have Macs so a PDF would probably be most appropriate but I rather submit it using the format that is normal used to submit documents.

Ceric, yes and yes. We generally use MS Word format (even the Mac people on staff), but RTF or TXT would be fine as well. PDFs can't be corrected like the others, so don't use that.

Whoo-hoo! It's a deal!

Nick DiMolaNick DiMola, Staff AlumnusMay 10, 2007

I really would love to apply, but I'm not sure I would have the time to dedicate to the site. I'm also on the other side of America in NY which doesn't really align with the requirements. I guess we'll see, maybe I'll give it a shot anyway. It would be pretty awesome to secure a place on the NWR staff.

18 DaysMay 10, 2007

So does this mean Ben is off staff or what?

EDIT: Well he's not on the staff page anymore!

Ben had to leave the staff about a year ago because he got a job working at an Australian game developer.

Quick question: What form of Citation should be used?

Karl Castaneda #2May 10, 2007

I'm not sure what you mean, but don't worry about that too much.

KhushrenadaMay 11, 2007

I think he meant APA or MLA citations. He's trying to use big words to make himself seem smarter than the rest of us. But, I trust the staff won't be fooled.

psittaceous.

CericMay 19, 2007

Welp I submitted my abbreviated application. I hope I get it.

ThePermMay 19, 2007

if my internet access was as solid as it used to be id probably go for it, but its pretty wishy washy like diarrhea.

CericMay 26, 2007

With the extension I feel my chances slipping away...

We're hiring more than one person. I don't think Windy has even looked at the apps he has already received; he just wants a larger pool before he begins selecting.

steveyJune 01, 2007

My application is sent, hope you like it.

DarkheartJune 01, 2007

Sent it in, if anything hope you guys enjoy a review of Super Swing Golf~!!!! I still stand with if you guys would like someone just to edit podcasts and work on video content, I would do it.

Anywhoo its 11:30 central time here so I hope I made it in time.

KhushrenadaJune 01, 2007

Please, feel free to join my victory party!

CericJune 02, 2007

I did other things but I didn't get a full review in so I don't knowwhat my chances are but I will be living in San Diego as of July 16 on.

I just wanted to ask if you guys got my submission from patchkid15@comcast.net dont know if it went through

Khushrenada what makes you so sure that you have already won. I think the rest of us have a fair chance of winning. No need to go making a victory party so soon.

SHHHH. Let the baby have its bottle.

yea i just wanted him to know we all have a fair chance. I dont know why he thinks he has a better chance.

Hello Patchkid15. I'm afraid I am not all that familiar with you nor do I know how familiar you are with me. However, in regards to my claiming of victory, that stems from a little something I started before the job postings were announced. In the Funhouse forum (or forum re-arrangement complaint station), I announced that I was running a campaign to be elected as staff. I had a feeling an announcement was going to be made soon and I was right. And since then, I have been making jokes here and there as though I am running an election campaign. With the submission deadline over, I then decided to continue on the election joke as though results had come in and claiming victory. This way, if I am not made staff, I can then call for a recount and level charges of corruption. Yes, it's just not that funny when you have to explain the joke.

I don't know if you checked my victory thread that I linked but if so, you should see at the very top that I am aware what I am doing is rash but that is part of my persona in the funhouse. But I was also doing so as a joke using Sun Tze as though my whole campaign had some grand strategy. Plus, I know that if I am not made staff, (or even if I am) then the staff (and other forum-goers) may be able to have some fun at my expense.

Then it's a good thing I only display confidence. If I was arrogant, I wouldn't even acknowledge my other competitors. Or have sent a bribe to the staff.

that Baby guyJune 03, 2007

Khush, we already do have fun at your expense.

I wont be upset if I don't get picked, I just hope it isn't because my review was for a game that was 6 months and a 11 days old when I sent it in. That would suck. face-icon-small-smile.gif

wanderingJune 03, 2007

I didn't apply this time. Too busy.

Good luck to all the applicants.

...though, now that I think about it, wishing good luck to every applicant doesn't make much since, does it? I mean, if I want every applicant to have an equal amount of luck, then I basically want every applicant to have no luck.

Never mind what I said earlier. Good luck to just stevey.

He is fooling you all, it isn't really a joke but he is covering it as one.

that Baby guyJune 04, 2007

Actually, I have to agree with GoldenPhoenix on this one. He's faking masquerading a real thing as a joke so he can try to get more of his name out there for this. Or something like that. Whatever the deal is, never trust Khushrenada.

KhushrenadaJune 04, 2007

Heh heh. Good for me.

Don't mind Golden_Phoenix, Patchkid15. She's been trying to make me look like a liar to hide her romance with Svevan. You see, a while back, I posted the whole sordid story of Svevan's plot to win her heart. She tried to pretend such a thing wasn't true but if you look on her myspace page, you'll see she is "friends" with Svevan. In fact, if you scroll down the page, you'll see Svevan even makes a comment:

Quote

Must be lame having only me as a friend. Sorry, I'll try to be extra-cool to make up for it.

This means at one time, it was just Svevan and her. Together. On the same page! Since then, they've brought in a couple more friends to try and hide the romance but the evidence is there for all to see.

As for Thatguy, I love your message. In fact, I think I'll quote it for awhile. My campaign message is old and there's not much to do now that the election results are in. Yeah. It's just me reminding everyone that I won.. Maybe I'll tell you what a friend said about me one time after screwing him over once more in a strategy board game called Diplomacy. But today is not that day.

EDIT: Crimm, what game did you review?

that Baby guyJune 04, 2007

Well, the important thing is that I'm right. That's always the important thing.

KhushrenadaJune 04, 2007

Me too. Except I'm always right.

Fixt.

Was wondering if anyone new what date Windy was releasing the New Staffers. Some told me a couple of months adn some told me a couple of weeks. Windy can u answer this for me.

KhushrenadaJune 08, 2007

Well, rather than send Windy a message or two, I just thought I'd ask a question here about the whole hiring process. I'm not sure if Windy is getting a few messages from people asking what is happening or not but just to be on the safe side and not fill his mailbox up, I'll try this method.

I was just wondering how this process will work. Are you going to contact a few people and ask them more questions or are you just going to hire from what was submitted? If there are follow-up interviews, is there a date to expect them? This way if the date passes, it will help end the suspense for some people. Is this hiring going to happen right away or is it a ways off from now?

I think this information would be beneficial for a lot of people wondering what is happening and not just myself. I don't know if you want to post a bit more information on how this process works but it would be appreciated.

Ah, the suspense. It reminds of me a mafia game, waiting to see if one is still alive for the next day.

that Baby guyJune 08, 2007

Someone is getting a little nervous...

Karl Castaneda #2June 08, 2007

I can't talk for Windy, but the way I was hired, it went as follows:

I turned in my application in late October (2004 if you're wondering), and asked a few questions about the position, along with my application/resume'. Jonny got back to me a week or two later, answering what I'd asked. Then things went a bit quiet, and I didn't hear anything back again until the middle of January (2005, obviously). On the 19th of that month, agreements were met, and I had my first article assignment that very night (the 2004 Louie Awards).

Your experience may not be the same, but I definitely wouldn't be expecting too much too soon.

We had more applications when Karl was hired. It should not take three months this time.

CericJune 10, 2007

Because the people who would know check this particular thread. Is NWR considered a charity or a Non-Profit? The only reason I'm asking is to see if someone or something could make a donation and write it off there taxes. With the increase in ads I'm assuming Bills are getting tight. I be all for an NWR shirt or other merchandise.

It only took a week when I was hired. Not that that necessarily translates to this occasion.

yea i was just wondering thank you for the info karl and jonny

DarkheartJune 17, 2007

Good luck everyone :3

So i saw you guys picked the Australian and staff writer. Grats to the new staffers.
