IGNCube gets more information about Metroid's Heads-Up Display, including a pretty cool looking mock-up ...

The news about Retro Studios "Metroid" has been very quiet lately ... too quiet, amongst all the hullaballo surrounding the company. However, Metroid still appears to be ontrack, as IGNCube has managed to wriggle a few details from within the company about the first-person view.

According to those tid-bits, the first person view will actually have you looking through the visor of Samus' helmet. You'll be able to see the HUD projected onto the visor. IGN has a GREAT mock-up graphic, and according to Retro, while IGN's graphic looks outstanding, the real deal is even more cool.

Another little graphic effect that should add a more immersive quality to the title ... you'll occasionally catch glimpses of Samus herself reflected in the glass of the visor. Now THAT's cool.

Of course, there will be the typical third-person cutscenes and what not, but it's a lot easier to get excited about the game now that we know that some thought and detail has been put into making that first-person perspective really draw the gamer in.

Also noted in IGN's update is the note that the game is now running a solid 60fps (a step up from the under thirty seen in the E3 clip), and that the polygons used to great the environs in a single room rival that of one of Zelda64's dungeons. Seamless loading, particle effects, and lighting and shadowing effects round out the eye-candy now becoming standard for GCN titles. Lastly, they note that "everything" is taken into account in the physics engine, so that theoretically, your heroine should be able to interact with just about everything in the game.
