Nintendo announces MSX and NeoGeo support on the virtual console.

Japanese Virtual Console lovers have quite a month ahead of them. The final Tuesday in February sees the release of the much-vaunted Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and March doesn’t look so bad either, even in the shadow of Zelda. Fondly remembered games like Excitebike, ActRaiser, and Ganbare Goemon fill the Japanese release schedule. In addition to these titles, Nintendo announced that MSX and NeoGeo games would be appearing in spring and summer respectively. Only two titles were listed, Eggy and Aleste for the MSX at 800 Wii points apiece. No games were listed for the NeoGeo.

March Japanese virtual console games:

NES:

Lode Runner

Yoshi no Tamago (Yoshi/Mario & Yoshi)

Valkyrie no Bouken: Toki no Kagi Densetsu

Excitebike

Donkey Kong Jr. no Sansuu Asobi (Donkey Kong Jr. Math)

SNES:

Ganbare Goemon: Yukihime Kyuushutsu Emaki (Legend of the Mystical Ninja)

Heracles no Eikou 3

ActRaiser

Genesis:

Puzzle & Action: Tant-R

Sonic Spinball

Dyna Brothers

Wonder Boy V: Monster World III

Virtua Fighter 2

Alex Kidd Tenkuu Ma Jou (Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle)

Alien Storm

Turbo-Grafx 16:

Double Dungeons

Fire Pro Wrestling Combination Tag

Galaga '88

Kaizou Chounin: Shubibinnman (Shockman)

Virtua Fighter? WHAT WHAT?

Also Alexx Kid makes me long for Master System support.

It was a sprite based remake for the Genesis.

ActRaiser from SquareEnix?

I'm surprised to see a Fire Pro wrestling game. Hope that makes its way over here.

Ha, I love how the japanese spelling of Hercules/Heracles doesn't allow you to tell whether it's the Greek or Roman name...

Wait, this means Europe is actually the first territory to get OOT?

Warukyuure no Bouken

I wonder what that's about (if it is what I think), I know Namco makes loads of cameos with that game, e.g. the third costume for Cassandra in Soul Calibur 2 and inclusion into practically any figure collection for Namco games.

DK Jr. Math? Will people actually pay for that?

KDR_11kFebruary 23, 2007

Probably the cheapest "Edutainment" game around.

GoldenPhoenixFebruary 23, 2007

Noooo, it is lode runner one of my arch nemesis from the NES days and one of my most hated games ever.

Well it's kind of a non-game isn't it? Maybe Brain Age fans will dig it. face-icon-small-wink.gif

I hope Neo-Geo supports makes it to North America. I can understand if MSX stays in Japan because it was only available in Japan but Neo-Geo should be available here. Plus it's good to see new systems being supported. That means that someday Master System or Gameboy games could be available.

BlackNMild2k1February 23, 2007

I haven't bought a VC game yet, but Actraiser and Mystical Ninja are both on the list when I do.

NAMCOT?

The Turbografx games were released in Europe, MSX games could be released in other regions, too.

The Turbografx system was released in Europe, albeit limited.

now all the VC haters can shut up finally. Hey that VF2 game wasn't a bad 2d fighter, it wan't good bt it wasn't bad either.

DoerrFebruary 23, 2007

That'd be rad...Then I could finally complete my VC library with Link's Awakening!

It's way to early for so much Zelda.

Totally confirms Nintendo is having a drought, and that TP is performing below their expectations.

DjunknownFebruary 23, 2007

NEO GEO! w00t w00t!

They have to release Neo Geo support here. They have to. All reggiehead.gif has to to do is go to Japan and make them do it.

If there is any indication though, they'll release their first round of forgettable (read:Crappy) games. But once Samurai Shodown and the rest show up, its on motha $$%##, its on.

Athrun ZalaFebruary 23, 2007

yay, Neo Geo games! face-icon-small-happy.gif

let's hope they release the KOF and Garou series soon... (I'd ask for Metal Slug, but those have been released already ^^)

anyways, arcade goodness! (I wish Capcom would follow suit...)

tonythekittyFebruary 25, 2007

Now am I correct in understanding that te only thing that prevents us from downloading other regions Virtual console games is the region of the unit itself? Does this mean that if I buy a second Wii from japan then I can download Neo Geo games? Or would I not be able to use my credit card to buy points off of it?
