Check out the first video of SSX running on the Wii.

In a recent episode of SpikeTV's "GameHead" program, the first video footage of EA's upcoming SSX game for the Wii, now titled SSX Blur, was revealed. You can check out the first video footage of the game on YouTube.

As an SSX fan myself, I'm sure the level shown is from a prior SSX game. Whether or not the entire game will use old courses is unknown at this point. The character and interface, though, are totally new.

Izzat Super-Deformed?!?!?!

What with this and Sims Wii, EA is totally going Japan centric for some strange reason!

My guess is that super deformed styles allow Miis to blend in.

is it just me, or the game seems a lot like THDJ? oO

It looks like Tony Hawk Downhill Jame becuase THDJ is SSX on Skateboards. This is the 5th SSX game (not counting the GBA version). The series has been around since 2000. It was a PS2 launch title.

Well... THDJ is shaping up to be most disappointing launch purchase by far. /sad

I wonder if SSX will do anything to rectify that or is the general SSX formula really just dead to me...

I think the SSX formula is solid, but without stellar level design to really push that design it can get boring fast. Just like the Tony Hawk formula is solid, but after the 3rd game I lost complete interest...well because it is really all the same to me now.

SSX3 was the pinnacle of the series and was an amazing game. If you were burnt out by then, you missed out on a great game. I didn't play SSX or Tricky much, but 3 was an outstanding example of tweaking the formula just enough to make it completely awesome.

This one - so far - looks a lot like SSX3. If it retains the visuals we found there (or improves them, please) and all the openness from the game, as well as the absolute INSANE amount of replay, this will be one hell of a game.

Adding online would seal the deal as quite possibly one of the greatest snowboarding games ever.

As far as Mii speculation goes, I wonder....as games come out where Miis could be incorporated, do you think you'll get access to Customization packs? I.e., SSX gives you a "SnowPlay" pack, and you can add scarves and hats and gloves to your Mii. Nothing huge, just enough to make them fit the game in question.

It would be nice if you could have the packs usable in other games, but I doubt it. You'd have to load it to the hard drive inside, and I don't think Nintendo originally planned for it.

Would be a cool idea though.

SSX Tricky was the pinnacle, but I digress...

I hope these games include Mii import capability, or else I have to question why the characters look like they do.

Would be problematic for sending Miis to other people that don't have the pack.

I know the video quality sucked, its youtube afterall, but the draw-distance in that game was awesome, and you could even notice alot of snow flowing against you.

Not if a firmware update could check other systems before Miingling.

But as I said, I didn't think this was possible, and I'm not under the impression that firmware updates can basically give us any idea we can come up with.

Did that video remind anyone else of a track from SSX3? That segment looked identical to me from one of the courses in SSX3.

Can't EA make a Wii exclusive where the characters arn't turned into some kind of big headed anime character? I was upset when they did it for the Sims and I hope they could just take nintendo a little more seriously.

MANTI5December 02, 2006

Tricky was the best and the others could never really capture it's specialness. It's one of my all time favorite games and I still play it, I just wish they could make another based on Tricky but with more tracks.

I've owned all the ones that followed and enjoyed them each to a degree but they just weren't as purely fun as Tricky. Radio BIG didn't help at all either.

IceColdDecember 02, 2006

I'll agree that SSX 3 and Tricky were really good - never got around to playing On Tour though.. I might pick this one up.

I think EA sees the system as becoming big in Japan, like DS, which would explain why the company is going for more cartoony presentations on its Wii games. Not to mention Nintendo customers seem to focus on less realistic/violent games in general. See Viewtiful Joe, Super Monkey Ball, Mario, Pokemon, Tales, etc. Teh kiddys!
