Every year we like to recognize the best in gaming on Nintendo consoles.
Wii - Best Online Multiplayer
For everything Super Smash Bros. Brawl got wrong online, Mario Kart Wii got it right. The Mario Kart Channel displays tournaments, friends you’ve registered and and their online status, and your personal stats as compared to your friends. Synching up with an online match is as easy as pie, and lag is rarely a factor. Both races and battles are available for online enjoyment.
But there are two little touches that really help elevate the experience yet more. First, as you use the Wii Wheel in the game more and more (both solo and multiplayer), you’ll find yourself with a Golden Wii Wheel icon by your name in online matches—a medal of honor, if you will. And the more star ranks you have in the solo game, the more stars will appear with that Golden Wheel. Bow down before the three-starred Golden Wheel. Additionally, players have faux-Gamerscores that increase and decrease based on online performance. And by the way, using the Wii Wheel significantly increases the number of points you win.
Is there any question that Mario Kart Wii is the best online experience on the system in 2008? Hopefully, Nintendo will use this scheme as a starting point from here on out!
