Wii - Best Local Multiplayer

Every year we like to recognize the best in gaming on Nintendo consoles.

Wii - Best Local Multiplayer

The NWR Award

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

While Brawl's online implementation fell short, its local multiplayer is a bastion of almost limitless entertainment. The traditional Smash Bros. battle modes are zanier than ever, with new items, an epic character roster update, unpredictable assist trophies, and chaos-inducing final smashes.

Something interesting almost always happens during a Brawl match. The new items, moves, and arenas infuse Smash Bros. with even more hilarious predicaments, climactic upsets, and shameful blunders. And user-created levels, when done well, can further enhance the frenetic gameplay.

Of course, if you're not itching for a competition, you can now play Smash Bros. co-operatively with a friend in a smattering of other modes, including The Subspace Emissary, event battles, and multi-man brawls. With deeper and more accessible multiplayer than ever seen in the series before, Brawl easily offers the best local multiplayer on the Wii.

Runners-up:

Mario Kart Wii,

Boom Blox
