Biggest Surprise - Game
Boom Blox
When you hear the name Steven Spielberg what comes to mind? E.T.? Saving Private Ryan? Jurassic Park? Grand? Epic? Dramatic? Yeah. Anything but stacking blocks on top of one another and then knocking them down. Yet that's precisely what Steven Spielberg did for Boom Blox, the first (and so far only) game to emerge from his collaboration with Electronic Arts.
Even more surprising than Boom Blox's premise was the resonant chord it struck with gaming critics. Boom Blox was a rare Wii third party exclusive whose reviews did NOT elicit mixed opinions or a barrage of complaints about casual gaming. It offered a wealth of features, compelling pick-up-and-play gameplay, and even allowed players to share user-created levels without the usage of Friend Codes. We called it "ridiculously fun and diverse enough to be worth anyone's time and money" and gave it a 9 out of 10.
However, one thing comes as no surprise at all: a sequel is already in the works.
