DS - Best Sound

The NWR Award

Final Fantasy IV

Whether or not you've played Final Fantasy IV before, if you're reading this article you've probably heard something from its soundtrack. Final Fantasy IV's majestic anthems, haunting battle themes, and moody environmental music are among the most memorable in the medium; an assortment of orchestrations, rearrangements, and remixes over the years has made Nobuo Uematsu's soundtrack one of the most celebrated in gaming history.

Square-Enix's re-instrumentation on the DS is a pure delight, bringing vibrant new life to the melodies while retaining all of the SNES original's charm. Whether it's your first or fourth rendition of FFIV, you'll be humming along almost instantly. What's more, the game features an incredible amount of quality voice acting during cut-scenes. This is top-tier, console quality sound production in every way, and that deserves recognition.

Runner-up: Space Invaders Extreme
