ATLUS U.S.A., INC. ANNOUNCES "YGGDRA UNION"(tm) FOR THE GAME BOY(r) ADVANCE

A Stunning New Strategy RPG From the Makers of the Award-Winning "Riviera: The

Promised Land"

IRVINE, CA -- February 3, 2006 -- Atlus U.S.A., Inc., a leading publisher of

interactive entertainment, today announced that Yggdra Union, a strategy role-playing

game for the Game Boy Advance, is scheduled for release in the fall of 2006.

"Riviera: The Promised Land was one of last year's best-selling handheld RPGs,

and we expect Yggdra Union to build on that success," said Sammy Matsushima,

Project Lead for Atlus U.S.A., Inc. "The developers at STING amaze us with their

ability to deliver character design and compelling gameplay that rival the quality

of RPGs for home consoles, let alone other portable games."

About YGGDRA UNION

Ruled by a royal family said to be descendants of the gods themselves, Fantasinia

is a prosperous and peaceful land -- until the peace is shattered by the invading

forces of the Empire of Bronkia.

Led by the young emperor Gulcasa, who seized control of the Empire in a brutal

coup d'etat, Bronchia's Imperial Army cuts a bloody swath through the people

of Fantasinia and the Royal Armies of King Ordeene.

Amidst the chaos, a young woman escapes from the besieged capital of Partina

-- a woman with innocence in her face, and a sword in her hand.

The girl's name is Princess Yggdra, the last surviving member of the royal family;

the sword is the Gran Centurio, a legendary blade once wielded by the founder

of Fantasinia, and passed down through generations of royalty.

Fleeing to a remote valley at the southern tip of the continent, Yggdra meets

up with an unusual thief named Milanor, a chivalrous young man destined to help

her liberate the people of her kindgom...

YGGDRA UNION Key Features:

  • Strategic gameplay in which decks of "Tactical Cards" are used to determine

battlefield movement, special attacks, and more!

  • Character design by manga artist Satoko Kiyuzuki and card design by Sunaho

Tobe, character designer of "Riviera: The Promised Land"!

  • Over 30 attack, defense, and support skills!

  • Join forces with other allies to form an unbeatable Union!

Yggdra Union has not yet been rated by the ESRB.

Awwww, why'd they have to make it a SRPG? Riviera was so awesome, and now I won't even bother with this... >=\

Infernal MonkeyFebruary 03, 2006

Atlus shouldn't be allowed to publish interesting sounding games. It needs to be the law. =(

IceColdFebruary 03, 2006

How the hell do you say that anyway? I could just imagine..

"So, what games have you played recently?"

"Oh I just got a great new RPG - it's called Yug-gudera Union"

Bill AurionFebruary 03, 2006

I've been pronouncing it "Ig-dra" since it was first announced...(Since it's inspired by Yggdrasil, I'm sure...)

KDR_11kFebruary 03, 2006

Ygg is Odin's alternative name, drasil literally means "horse" but can be interpreted as gallows in this context (Yggdrasil was the tree Odin hung himself from in his search for wisdom, same reason he sacrificed his eye). Now to find out what a "dra" is and what Odin did to it.

King Ordeene... If you squint a lot that COULD be pronounced to sound a bit like Odin...

Overall it sounds like a clicheed jRPG crossed with Metal Gear Acid.

this game looks awsome, why complain?
looks like a cross between advance wars and final fantasy tactics

KDR_11kFebruary 04, 2006

Someone should've told them about not putting a black outline around sprites, that looks amateurish.

I think it fits the style.

And it works with the special effects.

Infernal MonkeyFebruary 04, 2006

Wow, that does look pretty nice. Too bad it's still a SRPG. =(

KDR_11kFebruary 04, 2006

Why can't there ever be a realtime SRPG out of Japan? The only attempts at realtime strategy I've seen come out of Japan were Pikmin and a crappy RTS from Sega.

Meh, sounds like I'll have to make that on my own.

NephilimFebruary 05, 2006

why, there are enough generic RTS from america...
yearly updates with same "improved engines", why should japan bother?

Infernal MonkeyFebruary 05, 2006

Worked for Street Fighter.

Could somebody ban Norse mythology? It's getting old and tired, like a Studio 51 hooker.

IceColdFebruary 05, 2006

Hey hey, don't say that... Zelda is heavily Norse/Celtic influenced.

mantidorFebruary 05, 2006

Zelda is spared for having bombs, pictographs, monkeys and above all not being afraid to make us laugh, all norse based games tend to be too serious.

But really there are tons of interesting mythologies out there, I liked the incan touches on dragon's roost Island in the Wind Waker for instance, but besides those sporadic appearances is lord of the rings redone all over for rpg games.

KDR_11kFebruary 05, 2006

DeadlyD: There's been enough turn-based strategy games made in the west too, most just stopped making them because noone wanted intricate war simulations anymore.

vuduFebruary 06, 2006

Yea!! SRPG FTW!! face-icon-small-happy.gif
