SEGA SHINES LIGHT ON SHADOW

Action-Platformer from the Sonic The Hedgehog Series Features New Lead Character; Dark, Unique Story

SAN FRANCISCO & LONDON (March 23, 2005) – SEGA® of America and SEGA® Europe Ltd, today officially announced Shadow The HedgehogTM, an exciting new spin-off from SEGA's best-selling Sonic The HedgehogTM series. The SEGA title is currently in development at SEGA Studio USA, under the direction of Takashi Iizuka, lead developer of Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2/ Battle, and Sonic Heroes.

Shadow The Hedgehog allows players to collect an arsenal of weapons, vehicles, and objects to rocket through more than 50 unique missions. In his feature debut, Shadow is tormented by a dark past, struggling to discover his true identity. He is caught in a complex battle between aliens, the G.U.N. army, and Dr. Eggman, and discovers that he may be the very element that will tip the scales between good and evil forever.

"Since we first introduced him in Sonic Adventure 2, we have wanted to feature Shadow in his own game," said Takashi Iizuka, Game Director, SEGA Studio USA. "We maintained Shadow as a mysterious character and now fans can control his destiny by engaging in a unique gameplay experience that offers a multitude of possibilities!"

"The Sonic franchise has sold more than 38-million units worldwide and SEGA plans to support this new brand with a complimentary lineup of new Sonic products across all platforms in 2005," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. "We expect Shadow The Hedgehog to be a cornerstone title in this strategy as well as a new and dynamic brand for SEGA."

Is he an android created by Dr. Eggman? Is he the original Shadow simply suffering from amnesia? Or is there an even more sinister explanation? Now, gamers will decide in a race against time by choosing between any number of routes by which to unveil the secrets of his past. Multiple endings will reflect critical decisions at every stage of the game. Gamers have ultimate control over Shadow's past, with the potential to rewrite his history time and time again.

Since his debut in Sonic Adventure 2 (2001), Shadow The Hedgehog has appeared in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle (2002), Sonic Heroes (2003), and the massively popular Sonic X animated series. SEGA plans to release Shadow The Hedgehog on all current generation console platforms in Winter 2005.

Guns were bad enough. Now tell me why Shadow needs vehicles.

KDR_11kMarch 24, 2005

Because TeH HayloE!! has it.

Smash_BrotherMarch 24, 2005

Sounds more and more like "Grand Theft Hedgehog" the more I hear about it.

Though, I think the entire internet should just refer to this as "Shadow's Bad Fur Day"...

"SEGA plans to release Shadow The Hedgehog on all current generation console platforms in Winter 2005."

Gives them at least 10 months to make the game now.

Wait, ALL platforms!? I know there was a Sonic Gamecube exclusive game that Naka talked about not too long ago...

"We are in development with a new GameCube Sonic game, which we hope to release before the end of 2005”~Naka

Please, Sega...Please tell me that the GC exclusive Sonic Naka was talking about wasn't magically turned into Shadow the Angsthog for multiple platforms...Tell me it's an all-new 2D Sonic that brings the series back to the basics!

Just what I was thinking... in fact, Sega, give us that Sonic and give PS2 and Xbox Shadow. We won't mind, really!

ruby: Again PA's pattern: If there's any joke it's in the first two panels, then they add two more to make up for it. Hell, you can stop when you've reached the punchline!

All of you guys are really down on this game. However I believe it might prove to be quite good. I grew up on sonic and haveing played almost every sonic and neary all spin offs I know this one will do well and the enjoyment levels will break all scales. Sega has been around too long to make foolish mistakes (save only for Sonic 3D blast, that sucked). The guns and vehicles will provide more options for gameplay and improve the quality of the game. The vehicles may not be cars but jets or rockets which would improve shadows speed in the same way as a horse for link or a yoshi for mario. Now I hate to imply that you are being fanboyish but I think the reason you are dismissing this game is because it is sega. And you now what Nintendo is going down a similer route to sega and (God Forbid) you may one day wake up and play Zelda or mario on a PS4 or something. plus lionessjenna dont be so silly.

You mean Sega is synonymous with "foolish mistakes" this generation.

We're not dismissing this as a bad game because it is Sega. We're dismissing this as a bad game because what LOOKED like a good game concept--Sonic Heroes--disappointed.

I must admit, though, having only Shadow sounds appealing after being forced to wrestle with Power formation in almosted every Sonic Heroes level... This game may not be bad, but I'd bet they STILL aren't fixing some serious problems with the game engine.
