Beavers and aliens invade WiiWare, the Virtual Console receives a shot of the old west, and DSiWare sees the most releases this week.

This week, DSiWare leads the way with four new titles available for download. The first of these is X-Scape. Published by Nintendo, X-Scape is a shooter modeled to look like a retro 3D game. There are two modes of play: Tunnel Mode and Free Mode. In Tunnel Mode you will fight off enemies in dark tunnels. When these missions are complete you unlock Free Mode, where you can roam around the planets and take on missions. X-Scape can be downloaded for 800 DSi points ($8.00).

From Gameloft is Hero of Sparta. An action/adventure title, players take on the role of a Spartan hero, explore the land, solve puzzles and battle enemies. Weapons and equipment can be upgraded in order to battle hordes of enemies. Hero of Sparta is available now for 800 DSi Points ($8.00).

EA Sports is developing an ice hockey title for Wii that will ship with a hockey stick peripheral and feature one of the greatest hockey players of all time.

Unlike last year, The NHL 2K series will no longer be the only choice in town for Wii hockey fans. The QMI Agency is reporting that EA Sports will soon announce their first ice hockey title for Wii called NHL Slapshot.

Each copy of NHL Slapshot will ship with a 21-inch hockey stick peripheral. Built with slots for the Wii Remote and nunchuk, NHL Slapshot producer Joe Nickolls says that the peripheral will offer greater accuracy than the Wii Remote alone as well as make Wii MotionPlus support redundant. "Just the motions of the wrist shot and the slapshot and checking somebody, to be able to actually do those in your living room, it's hockey in your living room as opposed to just playing with a controller," explained Nickolls. Other control schemes include using the Wii Remote and nunchuk without the peripheral, or only the Wii Remote.

Longtime favorites see huge dips in this week's Japanese sales charts.

Despite 13 new games debuting in the top 30 this week, with six of those being in the top 10, no game managed to exceed the 100,000 mark, though Lost Planet 2 for the PlayStation 3 came pretty close.

In the top spot with sales of 85,000 was Lost Planet 2 from Capcom, followed by Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 with 62,000 units sold (down 51%). Three different versions of Konami’s latest Winning Eleven title debuted in top the 10, all for Sony’s consoles. The Wii counterpart started at position 15, with sales close to 10,000.
