Players who decide to download and play pirated versions of the game will be taking a very long boat ride.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride released for the Nintendo DS nearly two weeks ago in Japan with a form of copy protection to prevent the distribution of pirated copies of the game. In light of significant piracy due to the R4 and other flash carts, Square Enix decided to protect their latest release by modifying the opening sequence of the game.

Players who load up a pirated version of the game will be treated to a never-ending boat ride at the beginning of the game. At first it was unknown if the boat ride was actually a game breaking glitch, but Square Enix confirmed shortly after that it was included as a copy protection mechanism.

Research scientists at the Osaka Bioscience Institute made a shocking discovery when researching human vision.

Scientists and doctors worldwide will now need to add a new word to their expansive vocabulary, particularly those involved with human vision. Pikachurin is a protein discovered and named by a group of 18 Japanese research scientists at the Osaka Bioscience Institute. The protein's function and properties bear similarity to its namesake Pokemon, Pikachu.

The protein is used for transmitting signals (electrical impulses) from the human eyes to the brain. It is also used heavily in the eyes to assist tracking of moving objects. Without Pikachurin, these electrical impulses sent from the eyes to the brain would take around three to four times as long to reach their destination.

The blue circle never lies.

When Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars was announced by Nintendo at their E3 2008 press conference, it seemed pretty out of place with the fare they were offering up that morning. Since the simple announcement of the game's existence – the first iteration of the series on the DS – few new details have been offered about Chinatown Wars.

At least one question was answered today when Rockstar Games updated their teaser page for the upcoming title. The site reveals that the game, developed by Rockstar Leeds, will feature some form of Internet usage. Positioned beneath the game's logo on the teaser page is the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection icon. It is unclear how the game, set in a modern rendition of series hotspot Vice City, will utilize the Wi-Fi Connection. However, more information on the upcoming title should be forthcoming as the game is scheduled for a Winter release.

Nintendo and Others Take R4 Distributors to Court

Nintendo and 54 other game software companies take R4 distributors to court citing the Unfair Competition Prevention Law as their legal grounding.

Nintendo filed a lawsuit today with the Tokyo District Court against companies distributing the "R4 Revolution for DS." For those unfamiliar, the device allows gamers to play ROMs on their DS systems. After downloading illegal ROMs from the internet players need only to transfer them to a mini-SD card and insert it into the R4 DS game shell.

Though the R4 can be used for more harmless tasks, such as homebrew development, it is also being used as a pirated game player to a large enough extent to draw attention. Nintendo, Arc System Works, SNK, Capcom, Koei, Jaleco, Square Enix, Taito, Sega, Tomy, Tecmo, Hudson, Bandai Namco, The Pokemon Company, Yukes, Level Five, and others are pursuing the case in an attempt to curb piracy.
