The annual Golden Joystick Awards have been presented, with the introduction of the gaming Personality of the Year award.

This year’s Golden Joystick Awards were held in London with the first presentation of the “Hall of Fame Industry Personality of the Year” going to Shigeru Miyamoto.

The company behind this annual UK based awards ceremony is Dennis Publishing, which publishes a number of games and lifestyles magazines and websites. Many of the awards are voted for by the readers of sponsoring websites and magazines.

This is what Mr Miyamoto said in a video acceptance speech:

“I'm honoured to become the first recipient of the Golden Joystick Hall of Fame Award, and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you all," he said, beaming into the camera. "Taking this opportunity, I would like to thank all the game fans and games media in Europe for helping energise the videogame industry. For over 20 years, I have been fortunate enough to work with very talented people with amazing foresight, from the Donkey Kong days to our most recent, Mario Kart: Double Dash!! I really have enjoyed every minute; it's an amazing industry to work in."
