There's a lot of shrines.

Nintendo has released some new details about the new Legend of Zelda game, Breath of the Wild.

  • The game will feature 100 "Shrines of Trials", which are smaller, puzzle-focused dungeons that give items and other rewards once completed. Runes can be installed in the "Shiekah Slate", which also serves as a map and resembles the Wii U GamePad, to get hints in the shrines.
  • A Zelda amiibo line has been announced with Archer Link and Rider Link, as well as a Guardian that will have flexible parts. The amiibo are set to launch with the game in 2017.
  • In an interview with GameSpot, Eiji Aounuma confirmed that a female main character was considered in the form of a playable Zelda, but they feared it would cost Link his purpose for being in the game.

Talkback

I don't particularly care about what Gender my game protagonist is, but the excuse of "feared it would cost Link his purpose for being in the game." seems a bit curious.

The new amiibo look really. Good. I will definitely get Archer Link.
The shrine mini dungeons are a great idea.
It would have been nice to have an option for a female Link, but I don't this it really matters.

They can save the Linkle-stuff for DLC. Much like those Batman Arkham games, where you get to play as Catwoman in the DLC.

Let us play as Malon and retire Link to the farm

The Catwoman stuff in Arkham City was a key part of the story, they only made it "DLC" to screw with used game sales. I hope that's not a model Nintendo emulates.
