The unique title may see improvements down the road.

In an interview with Official Nintendo Magazine UK, Nintendo game designer Shigeru Miyamoto hinted that Wii Music may see an enhanced version. While he revealed no specific details, in regards to a possible follow-up title he said, "But like Wii Fit Plus, it's not really a sequel to the original Wii Fit - but we have added some features to improve the overall experience. It's a kind of an enhanced version of the original Wii Fit..."

Although Miyamoto admits the game did not sell as many copies as Nintendo expected (2.65 million as of May 2009, according to the company), he still believes it was a truly unique game. "And also, even today, we are receiving several different offers from people in the field of music education, so as far as Wii Music is concerned, I think is still has great potential. And in the future there might be some developments."

Wii Music was initially released in Japan and North America in October 2008.

Talkback

I remember I was curious about Wii Music so I rented it. I went through the early throes of the game, invited some friends over, and then cried after playing it.

There's two hours of my life that I can never get back.

Well, I spent over 40 hours with the game, and I thought it was great. If the game is budget priced like Wii Fit Plus and has MotionPlus support, I'm game.

If Mario buys the sequel, I'm buying it.

I spent nearly 90 hours with the game and I absolutely loved it. I really like to see how an upgrade would work-- most likely more songs, and maybe more instruments. MotionPlus might work best on the drums, as it was often difficult to play them using the button presses and the swinging; and on Mii Maestro, for more precise movements (but I liked that game anyway).

Epic Nintendo E3 2010 Press Conference Fail CONFIRMED.  ;)

The premise of Wii Music was fine, but Nintendo's going to have to implement some substantial improvements upon the original game to make this work, especially in the track list.

improvements...

hmmm..  well the game is based on trying to express yourself for the unexpressable.  While I played it..  for those minutes of my life.  I could say my biggest want would be to get out of the box they seem to have the players in.  I felt too confined in the game and a sense of openness would be much appreciated.

Eh, I think they've realized by now that no amount of improvements can turn Wii Music into a killer app so they won't spend a whole E3 on it.

I really don't have the words to describe the level of Fail in that sentence.  Was the little emoticon just not enough to show I wasn't being serious?

Here's what I think could be improved in Wii Music Plus:
- MotionPlus support: Some of the instruments didn't work in the original. 1:1 controls could give players more control in their performance and add more depth than just waggle.

- Music of greater quality: Even if they use MIDI they can make better sounding songs and musical notes.

- A professional mode: The biggest complain about the first game was that it was too easy and simple. Adding a recording studio of some sort with tons of features would give advanced players the option of creating their own songs, in a similar manner to the new Guitar Hero games.

Hell, you can create a song, play it, then send it to friends.

- More variety in music: The public domain songs were fine, but there was a limited number of popular and Nintendo songs. This should be fixed in the next game. Add more songs from all genres of music. Miyamoto once said that they wanted to add more than a hundred songs, and this would give him the chance to do so.

Wii Music + Rock Band Network would be the logical conclusion, one that I'm hoping for, but don't expect.
