The same actor responsible for Snake's lines in the MGS games will be reprising his role in Nintendo's all-star brawler.

David Hayter, the voice of Solid Snake and Big Boss from the Metal Gear Solid series, will be lending his voice to Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

This revelation did not come to us via the Smash Bros. Dojo, but instead was confirmed through David Hayter's personal website. The actor and writer lists SSBB as one of the games he has worked on as the voice of Snake in the "Metal Gear/Solid Snake" section of his site.

Further confirming this news is a comment left on a YouTube page linked to from his site, which includes a video starring Hayter himself. Under the username "GuyverSnake," Hayter comments:

"I am indeed voicing Snake in 'Smash Bros.' I've recorded it already, and I believe that fans of both games are going to be extremely happy. It's very cool. That's all I can say."

Exactly how much work Hayter put in to Smash Bros. Brawl may not be known until the game is released on December 3.

not the most exciting news. it appears to be we're not getting sound clips recycled from other MGS games but i really doubt the voice work is going to be more than grunts, like every other character. In other words, i dont expect any real dialogue.

It'd be funny to have snake shout his moves like Captain Falcon or Ness: "Nakita Launcher!" lol i guess in brawl the usual rules to espionage go out the window

Don't forget about the beefed-up story modes. Snake could have some serious script.

What about the victory screen? Falco and Fox said quite a few things in Melee.

"Hrmm, sounds like a spy movie..."

Yeah, remember how the original trailer had a pretty large amount of actual Snake dialog in Japanese? We might not get anything that 4th-wall-breaking, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did a similar scene to set the mood and introduce the character.

Also, I think if it were just grunts and exclamations, they would have just used existing clips. The fact that they recorded new stuff suggests that it at least needed to be unique.

ok good point. Actually everyone thats posted thus far made some good points.

Even for the story mode i can't see snake having more than 5 lines of dialogue because it wouldn't fit in well. Yes, i know, its smash bros. and if Mario fighting along side Pikachu can work everything can. But voice acting isn't one of the games strong points.

Look at characters like Fox and Falco, both had lots of spoken dialogue in the Star Fox series yet all we got was “Mission complete.” All i'm saying is that i don't expect Snake to have any major speaking parts, even with the story mode. Why? Imagine reaching a point in the story mode where, as Snake, you encounter a boss and words are exchanged. If Snake has a speaking part what will Link do when you come to the same encounter with him? Unless the story mode changes to have specific parts for each character, which is possible, I don't see Snake speaking a whole lot. A character specific intro to his character within the story mode (like Pits) will probably feature a line or too but thats it.

As for versus mode, the only lines he'll have other than grunts will be during the victory screen, and that only offers 3 different lines he Melee is any indication.

Actually, they say a lot more in the Japanese version. In fact, Falco has a couple of things that he says for his taunt (picked at random)... although sadly much of this was axed for the localization as they changed his taunt to a simple "humph".
