Wii - Best Use of Wii Features

The NWR Award

Boom Blox

When people think of Wii console features, they immediately think of the Wii Remote's unique functionality. In reality, there is much more to the system than just that. While Boom Blox indeed offered fantastic, precise Wii Remote control, it also made excellent use of the Wii’s internal memory and WiiConnect24 service.

Through use of the pointer and accelerometer in the Wii Remote, players are able to perform pinpoint actions within the game. Whether pulling a piece out of a tower Jenga-style or tossing a ball with precise strength and velocity, players are intuitively able to play Boom Blox successfully thanks to its excellent Wii Remote implementation. Players can also use the controls in conjunction with WiiConnect24, passing along their creations made with the in-game level editor to friends via the service.

With its precise Wii Remote control scheme, level editor, and WiiConnect24 integration, Boom Blox is our choice as the game that best made use of the Wii’s features in 2008.

Runners-up: Mario Kart Wii,

Super Smash Bros. Brawl
