Every year we like to recognize the best in gaming on Nintendo consoles.

Wii - Best Sound

The NWR Award

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Super Smash Bros. Melee's outstanding orchestral arrangements of classic Nintendo themes seemed like a hard act to follow, but Brawl did much more than just match its illustrious predecessor in the audio department. A veritable who's who of the industry's renowned composers was assembled to create a soundtrack so vast, it serves as a near-encyclopaedic chronicle of Nintendo's rich musical history, offering unique interpretations of songs from all-time bestsellers and obscure titles alike.

Whether it's a soaring choral rendition of the Fire Emblem theme, or a scatterbrained take on the 8-bit sounds of Dr. Mario's "Chill", Brawl's aural delights perhaps best exemplify the series' deep reverence for Nintendo's work, and all the sublime fan-serving fruit it has produced. Add in some impressive original compositions along with the full range of authentic sound effects and voice work for every last character, item, Assist Trophy, and Pokémon included in the game, and it's clear that Brawl's accomplishment in sound was simply unrivalled on Wii in 2008.
