by James Jones - February 5, 2009, 7:34 pm EST

Every year we like to recognize the best in gaming on Nintendo consoles.

WiiWare/VC - Best Sound

The NWR Award

World of Goo

From picking an item on its menu to constructing goo balls in a tower, World of Goo has some of most fitting sound effects and exceptional musical scores heard on WiiWare this past year. Seemingly inspired by Danny Elfman's work in Tim Burton's films, the soundtrack has a haunting carnival-esque vibe to it that perfectly coincides with the bizarre world in which World of Goo is set. Each level has its own feeling and personality, thanks to having its own unique and epic composition. Complementing the soundtrack are the perfect sound effects made by the goo balls themselves. Whether picking them up, dropping them on spikes, or merely touching them, the array of sounds brings the goo balls to life and gives the game a tactile feel unlike any other on WiiWare.

Runner-up: Mega Man 9
