The armies of war are steadily advancing.
After nearly two years of waiting, we finally have a date for Wargroove.
The Chucklefish-published strategy RPG in the vein of Advance Wars and its predecessors will launch on February 1 for Switch. It was originally announced in a 2017 Nindie Showcase video.

I think we can dig that.
The SteamWorld robots are crossing into another new genre.
Thunderful announced SteamWorld Quest: Epic of Gilgamech in today's Indie Highlights video, for a 2019 release. As with previous SteamWorld titles, Quest is a side-scrolling game, though with a focus on card-based combat.
It is not known where on the series timeline Quest will be placed.

December 2018 saw Nintendo walk off with multiple sales records, according to the NPD Group.
All sales figures for the period of December 2 - January 5, and refer to revenue figures unless noted.

Last time, we went to prison. This time...
Nintendo of Europe will be showing another Indie Highlights video tomorrow.
The presentation will air at 1500 CET / 9 a.m. Eastern time. It isn't known what will be in the presentation, but the focus will be on independent titles hitting Switch in 2019.
The last video from NoE focused on indies released August 20, and featured release dates of The Messenger and Windjammers, plus the stealth launch of Bad North and Prison Architect.

If you want to ship up to Boston, here's your chance.
Nintendo will be holding a couple of large tournaments over the next two months ahead of PAX East.
The Super Smash Bros Ultimate North American Open and Splatoon 2 North American Inkling Open will have online qualifiers in February, with Smash Bros's extending into March, with the grand finals to be held at the PAX East expo in Boston on March 30. Registration for the events is now live: Smash, Splatoon 2.

We've got the opening of an apparent winter of Devolver, as their "dystopian" platformer Pikuniku is out this week. The F2P shooter Smite comes out on Thursday with a Founder's Pack available, and the Patrick Stewart-narrated My Memory of Us.

No word on if Rita will be available after taking over the land of the dead in Fire Emblem Heroes.
As part of the series's 25th anniversary, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is getting a new cross-series fighting game.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid is a 2D fighting game slated for Switch release in April, digitally for $19.99 US for the base edition. A Digital Deluxe package, containing three additional characters with story modes, will be $39.99.

What could possibly be the final major third party 3DS localization has received a rating in Australia, heavily hinting toward a localized version.
Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth has received a "M" (Mature) rating in Australia. The rating lists "Multi Platform", but in Australia most titles are submitted with that platform choice by default.

Another one of Game Freak's side projects will be coming to Switch soon.
Rising Star Games will publish Giga Wrecker Alt, a console version of a sidescrolling platformer that was previously available on Steam's Early Access, "soon" according to a new trailer. A limited physical version will be available from Limited Run Games as well.

Wait, these games have endings?
The Nintendo Switch Online update today has brought the opportunity to beat two of the NES's most infamously difficult games.
Ghosts 'n Goblins and Ninja Gaiden were this month's recipients of SP versions for the service. Ghosts 'n Goblins picks up in stage 6 with the Dagger equipped, but still requires a second playthrough for the true ending.

It's the rarest of birds: Nintendo price drops.
Three titles will be coming to the Nintendo Selects line in North America on February 4.
Super Mario Maker, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D and Star Fox 64 3D are the newest top sellers to be added to the 3DS's discount line. The games will retail for US$19.99/C$29.99, both in stores and on the eShop.

Do you think love can bloom in an action platformer?
The Chris Avellone-penned Degrees of Separation is just under a month away, and the developers have provided new details about its unique gameplay.
A five minute video has been posted by the developers, showing off the abilities of the game's characters Ember and Rime. Narration will be provided by Kira Buckland, the voice of 2B in 2017's Nier: Automata and Eirika/Katarina in Fire Emblem Heroes.

Right. The big one this week is Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes, which is being distributed by Nintendo hence the Friday release. Onimusha Remastered from Capcom is their most important re-release of the month, and a game that's been in the hopper long enough that I played it at PAX East is coming with YIIK.

April is quickly flooding with massive RPGs.
SquareEnix have announced that Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD will release for Switch on April 16, with Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age following on the 30th of April. Both games are slated to receive physical releases.
The enhanced versions of the PlayStation 2 classics were announced with a large group of Final Fantasy titles in last September's Nintendo Direct.

January will see a couple of side-scrolling adventures made available for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.
Zelda II: The Adventures of Link and Sunsoft's Blaster Master will be available in all territories on January 16. The pair of 1988 (Western) action titles will bring the number of games available to 31.

Figures Yoshi would avoid April.
Kirby and Yoshi will be charming Nintendo fans in a couple of months.
Yoshi's Crafted World will release for the Switch on March 29, while Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn for 3DS will precede it on March 8. Both titles will retail for standard Nintendo of America MSRPs ($59.99/$39.99 for Yoshi and Kirby respectively).

A hidden Capcom gem has been announced for a Switch version.
Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, originally released in 2013, will hit Switch on April 23. Inspired by Western RPGs like The Elder Scrolls and Fable, the created player character sets out to destroy a world-ending dragon.
Dragon's Dogma is known for its "pawn" system, in which the character forms a party of four with two members generated by other players via the Internet.

OlliOlli is about to get a double release on Switch.
The 2D skateboarding adventure will release a "Switch Stance" edition on the eShop February 14, according to a new listing on Nintendo's game page. The two games will release for $14.99 US or $18.89 Canadian.
